SWAT called after man killed in Tuesday night shooting in Dayton

Jul. 9—A shooting in Dayton Tuesday night killed a man and led to a SWAT response as investigators searched for a suspect. Just before 11:30 p.m. police responded to the area of North Main Street and Ernst Avenue for a report of a person shot. "Upon arrival officers located the victim, a 42-year-old male, who succumbed to his injuries," Dayton police Lt. Eric Sheldon said. Investigators determined a possible suspect was in a home in the 2400 block of North Main Street, prompting SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team members to respond. The home was cleared, and crews determined the suspect was not inside the home, Sheldon said. Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate.

Jul. 8—A man died following a shooting on the Fourth of July in Dayton. Around 10:45 p.m. Friday, Dayton officers responded to the 3800 block of West Second Street for a report of a person shot. A 911 caller said he was breathing a little, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch records. The caller said they didn't see the shooter. The man was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Lt. Eric Sheldon said. Investigators determined the shooting happened at a different location. Homicide detectives have interviewed a person of interest and are continuing to investigate.

Eric Sheldon with the Dayton Police Department. The man was taken to the hospital in a life-threatening condition but is expected to survive. 'Officers have responded to 33 Pointview Avenue on numerous other occasions for weapons complaints and large party complaints,' Sheldon said. A caller contacted 911 early Saturday morning. 'He shot. He bleeding out. He's outside in the alley,' the caller told the 911 operator. Folander Friend says shootings like this brings bad attention to the area. 'Pointview is just a street. It's a street for everybody else, but for us, you know, it's our livelihood, we live here,' Friend said. His brother, Rodney, says there should be ways to redirect gun violence into something more positive, like hosting events for youth who live nearby. 'I'm starting to notice that there's really nothing for the youth out here to do really,' Rodney said. 'If you really think about it, everything that kids like to do has been wiped.' The violence in the area makes it harder for people to live in peace. 'We're a family,' Folander said. 'Everybody on the street knows each other. Everybody knows what's going on. We love each other.' Dayton stabbing suspect taken into custody following chase with deputies

May 15—Montgomery County sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect in a Dayton stabbing following a brief chase Thursday morning. Just after 6:30 a.m., deputies found a Cadillac Escalade in Harrison Twp. that was wanted in connection to a stabbing Wednesday night. The Escalade fled, causing deputies to start a pursuit. Minutes after the chase started the SUV crashed near the intersection of Otterbein and Lori Sue avenues, according to the sheriff's office. The driver was taken into custody after a short foot chase. Dayton police responded to assist deputies, and the suspect was transferred to their custody. The stabbing was reported around 11:10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of McArthur Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 33-year-old woman with a non-life-threatening injury, said Dayton police Lt. Eric Sheldon. Dayton police's Violent Offenders Unit is continuing to investigate. The suspect could face failure to comply due to the pursuit and additional charges from the stabbing.

Shots fired after girl gets bitten by dog in Dayton

Several homes were damaged after shots were fired during an argument in a Dayton neighborhood on Monday. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Dayton Police were called to the 300 block of Delaware Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. on reports of shots fired. Lt. Eric Sheldon said officers got to the scene and took everyone involved into custody as they investigated. TRENDING STORIES: Investigators learned that an 11-year-old girl had been bitten by a dog. This led to an argument that escalated to shots being fired between two groups. 'No one was struck by this reckless gunfire, however multiple homes and at least one vehicle were struck,' Sheldon said. The child was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the dog bite. Three people were arrested. A 17-year-old boy was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for obstructing official business, failure to disclose, carrying a concealed weapon, improperly discharging a firearm, and felonious assault. Two men, 21 and 20 years old, were booked into the Montgomery County Jail on felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm charges. Six firearms and other pieces of evidence were found during the investigation. The case remains under investigation by the Dayton Police Department's Violent Offender Unit.
