Vikramaditya Motwane Slams AI-Made Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal: "Who Needs Writers And Directors When..."

New Delhi: The use of AI in filmmaking has been on the rise for some time now. Last month, the film industry expressed its disregard for the AI-altered re-release of Aanand L Rai's Raanjhanaa's Tamil version, Ambikapathy. Now, a full film made using Artificial Intelligence titled Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal was announced earlier today. Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane lashed out at the announcement post. What's Happening Production house Abundantia Entertainment unveiled the poster of their first full "Made-In-AI" film earlier today. They captioned it, "Proud and honoured to bring the timeless story of Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal, to theatres, in a first-of-its-kind, 'Made-In-AI', 'Made-In-India' avatar. With deep reverence for our culture, heritage and history, we are set to release this innovative spectacle in theatres on Hanuman Jayanti 2026." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Abundantia Entertainment (@abundantiaent) Vikramaditya Motwane re-shared the post in his Instagram stories and wrote, "And so it begins... Who TF needs writers and directors when it's 'Made in AI'?" Instagram/Vikramaditya Motwane Vikramaditya Motwane's Previous Statement On AI-Usage In Films Previously, too, Vikramaditya Motwane had spoken at length about how he disapproves of the excessive use of AI in films. He had told Hindustan Times, "I see AI as a threat. The threat is not from the creators using it. The threat is from the people with money wanting to use it to save more money for themselves. The threat comes from there. It's about the people in power using it to be able to say, 'I can use AI and then I will not hire X number of people for my job,' or 'I can use AI and I can get rid of X number of people.'" AI-Altered Raanjhanaa Controversy Raanjhanaa, originally directed by Anand L Rai and starring Dhanush, was re-released by production house Eros Entertainment in Tamil with an altered climax created using AI, on August 1, 2025. The original creators claimed they never gave any consent. Both Aanand L Rai and Dhanush publicly criticised the move, calling it a violation of creative integrity. This was done to give a happy ending to the film. The 'happy ending' context comes in because in the original film, Kundan (Dhanush) dies. The AI-generated climax is supposed to provide a kind of ending where Kundan survives. Rewinding to the Raanjhanaa climax in 2013, Dhanush's character, Kundan, dies after getting shot. The incident unfolds at a public rally planned by the establishment. Zoya (Sonam Kapoor), who plays his love interest, is not oblivious to the conspiracy that has been sketched out to ensure Kundan's death. Kundan is also aware of it, but his love for Zoya stops him from making it obvious. In A Nutshell In recent developments regarding the use of AI in films, director Vikramaditya Motwane had a strong reaction towards Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal.

Farhan Akhtar Backs Raanjhanaa Director In AI Row, "Can't Change A Film Without Consent," Says Ritesh Sidhwani

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are the latest film personalities to weigh in on the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cinema, following the controversy around Raanjhanaa 's Tamil version Ambikapathy. Raanjhanaa, originally directed by Anand L Rai and starring Dhanush, was re-released by production house Eros Entertainment last week in Tamil with an altered climax created using AI with original creators claiming they never gave any consent. Both Aanand L Rai and Dhanush publicly criticised the move, calling it a violation of creative integrity. At the launch of their upcoming film 120 Bahadur, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani made it clear where they stand. Farhan Akhtar said, "I will always stand with the creator of the film. If the creator is unhappy about their work being changed, I'll always support them. That's where my loyalty lies." Ritesh Sidhwani added, "I agree with Farhan. AI is a tool we must learn to use effectively and responsibly. Just like we moved from researching in libraries to using Google, AI is the next step - but it must never replace consent. I've read about what happened with Raanjhanaa, and honestly, it's not okay. If the filmmaker, the actor, or anyone involved hasn't given their permission, it shouldn't be done." Alongside voicing their views, the duo unveiled the teaser for 120 Bahadur, a stirring war drama inspired by the real-life heroes of the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 India-China War. Starring Farhan Akhtar as the war hero Major Shaitan Singh, the film brings to life the story of 120 Indian soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, who stood their ground against overwhelming odds, fighting thousands of enemy troops in sub-zero temperatures. Directed by Razneesh "Razy" Ghai, 120 Bahadur is set to be released in theatres on November 21, 2025. Also starring Raashii Khanna, the movie is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment.

Raanjhanaa: What are the changes in AI-altered climax of Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor's movie?

Raanjhanaa (2013) starring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor in the lead is back in the cinemas. The movie generated polarising reactions on its AI-altered ending. While director Aanand L Rai criticised Eros Entertainment for changing the climax without his consent, the production house remained firm and defended the decision. As the romantic drama re-released in cinemas, let's see what has changed in the film's climax. In a viral clip on the micro-blogging site Twitter (now X), Kundan (played by Dhanush) can be seen in the ICU room with Zoya (played by Sonam Kapoor) sitting behind him, carrying tears in her eyes. Kundan's friend Murari (Mohd Zeeshan Ayub) and Bindiya (Swara Bhaskar) are checking on him from the glass door. While in the original climax, Kundan died at this moment after a heart-wrenching monologue, the AI version showed that Kundan is still alive. The character opens his eyes and gets out of bed. Zoya, Murari, and Bindiya everyone smile and are happy to see him alive. Though the AI-altered ending is drawing criticism from the film fraternity, the audience seems to be cheering on it. The viral clip shows the fans hooting and clapping when Kundan opens his eyes. For the unversed, it was the tragic ending of Raanjhanaa which made it so popular and a cult of modern cinema. Aanand L Rai slams AI-altered changes in Raanjhanaa Filmmaker Aanand L Rai is strongly against the altered ending of the film and believes that the production house shouldn't have changed the narrative by making it a happy ending. In a social media post, the filmmaker wrote, "The past three weeks have been surreal, and deeply upsetting. To watch Raanjhanaa, a film born out of care, conflict, collaboration, and creative risk, be altered, repackaged, and re-released without my knowledge or consent has been nothing short of devastating. What makes it worse is the complete ease and casualness with which it's been done.' He further added, 'Let me say this as clearly as I can: I do not support or endorse the AI-altered version of Raanjhanaa. It is unauthorised. I had no role in it. Neither did the team that made the film. And whatever it claims to be, it is not the film we intended, or made. This was never just a film to us. It was shaped by human hands, human flaws, and human feeling. What's now being circulated is not a tribute. It is a reckless takeover that strips the work of its intent, its context, and its soul.'
