Farhan Akhtar Backs Raanjhanaa Director In AI Row, "Can't Change A Film Without Consent," Says Ritesh Sidhwani
Raanjhanaa, originally directed by Anand L Rai and starring Dhanush, was re-released by production house Eros Entertainment last week in Tamil with an altered climax created using AI with original creators claiming they never gave any consent. Both Aanand L Rai and Dhanush publicly criticised the move, calling it a violation of creative integrity.
At the launch of their upcoming film 120 Bahadur, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani made it clear where they stand.
Farhan Akhtar said, "I will always stand with the creator of the film. If the creator is unhappy about their work being changed, I'll always support them. That's where my loyalty lies."
Ritesh Sidhwani added, "I agree with Farhan. AI is a tool we must learn to use effectively and responsibly. Just like we moved from researching in libraries to using Google, AI is the next step - but it must never replace consent. I've read about what happened with Raanjhanaa, and honestly, it's not okay. If the filmmaker, the actor, or anyone involved hasn't given their permission, it shouldn't be done."
Alongside voicing their views, the duo unveiled the teaser for 120 Bahadur, a stirring war drama inspired by the real-life heroes of the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 India-China War.
Starring Farhan Akhtar as the war hero Major Shaitan Singh, the film brings to life the story of 120 Indian soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, who stood their ground against overwhelming odds, fighting thousands of enemy troops in sub-zero temperatures.
Directed by Razneesh "Razy" Ghai, 120 Bahadur is set to be released in theatres on November 21, 2025. Also starring Raashii Khanna, the movie is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment.

Anurag Kashyap slams producer Vijay Subramaniam over AI generated film 'Chiranjeevi Hanuman'
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has called out producer Vijay Subramaniam for his AI-generated movie Chiranjeevi Hanuman- The Eternal, saying it represents a dangerous future for Hindi cinema. The 52-year-old shared the film's poster on Instagram with a note to Subramaniam, who is the founder and group CEO of talent management agency Collective Artists Network. Subramaniam has produced the project in collaboration with Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainment. "Any actor or anyone who calls themselves artists and has a spine will be and should be either questioning him or leaving the agency since he has proved that he thinks you're no match for his AI performance. "This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so called artists in the Hindi Film industry. Well done Vijay Subramaniam. Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter," Kashyap posted. The director further said that companies are always looking out for themselves rather than the talent. "So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators. End of the day, all these agencies are only interested in making money off you and since they choose turkeys after turkeys for you and you're not making enough for them, they are going all AI," Kashyap added. In a follow-up comment on his post, Kashyap said he has no issues with artificial intelligence as nobody "can stop AI from taking over every field and the world". "My genuine grouse is with my friend Vijay Subramaniam, because he is the CEO of KWAN Collective. He represents the artists, the voice of artists and he is producing an AI FILM, when the industry needs corrections, especially from the agencies, who are very responsible for costs going up, actors career paths and writers, musician , filmmakers." Subramaniam had earlier told PTI in an interview that his aims to create films that merge modern technology with ancient stories that will cater to a younger audience with shorter attention spans.

Here's when and where you can watch Fahadh Faasil, Vadivelu's comedy drama Maareesan on OTT
A mysterious journey unfolds when two unlikely companions set off across Tamil Nadu. One is a cunning thief with ulterior motives; the other, an elderly man battling memory loss. What begins as a simple plan for deception soon transforms into an emotional odyssey neither expected. When and where to watch Maareesan? Maareesan, the latest Tamil film starring Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, is set to premiere on Netflix on August 22, 2025. Directed by Sudheesh Sankar, this road-trip thriller delves into themes of trust, redemption, and the complexities of human relationships. What is the storyline? The storyline of Maareesan follows Dhaya, a small-time thief (played by Fahadh Faasil), who targets Velayudham, an elderly man with Alzheimer's (played by Vadivelu), as part of a con. Dhaya pretends to help Velayudham in his supposed quest to find his long-lost daughter, seeing it as an easy opportunity to gain something in return. As they journey together across Tamil Nadu, what begins as manipulation slowly evolves into a genuine emotional bond. Dhaya starts to empathize with Velayudham's vulnerability and sincerity. The road trip reveals hidden truths, personal regrets, and forces both characters to confront their pasts. How were the performances? The performances were widely appreciated, with Vadivelu earning particular praise for his role as Velayudham. Known primarily for his comedic work, Vadivelu showcased his range with a restrained and emotional performance that became one of the film's strongest elements. Fahadh Faasil, as the morally grey thief Dhaya, delivered a layered portrayal, effectively capturing the character's transformation from selfish motives to empathy and redemption. How was the box office response? Despite the critical praise, the film, which was released on July 25, struggled at the box office. Maareesan opened to a modest Rs 75 lakh on its first day and eventually collected around Rs 6.55 crore domestically. With an estimated production budget of Rs 15 crore, the film failed to recover its costs theatrically. Audiences responded well to the film post-theatrical release, and it currently holds an impressive IMDb rating of 8.2. While Maareesan may not have achieved commercial success, it resonated deeply with viewers for its sincere performances and heartfelt narrative. Story Highlights Maareesan follows conman (Fahadh Faasil) who tries to exploit elderly man with Alzheimer's (Vadivelu) on road trip. The Film is all set to stream on Netflix from August 22, 2025. Vadivelu delivers a standout emotional performance, moving beyond his usual comic roles. Though it underperformed at the box office, the film received critical acclaim and holds a strong IMDb rating of 8.2/10.
