Watch Esteban Ocon Tear Up Goodwood In Haas F1 Car
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Haas F1 driver Esteban Ocon is at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, celebrating ten seasons of Haas in Formula One. The four-day event in Sussex sees automotive fans, brands, racing teams, and iconic drivers gather in one place to celebrate speed and motoring. The Goodwood Hillclimb sees drivers take off down the narrow track as the engine note echoes through the large crowds of fans. Haas was present at the iconic event to celebrate its anniversary. As well as Ocon, his teammate Oliver Bearman, team principal Ayao Komatsu, and team owner Gene Haas were also present. A video shared by the American outfit shows the Frenchman smoking the venue with fresh donuts in the VF23 F1 car from the 2023 season. Gene Haas fired up the same car on Friday for his hillclimb run. Revealing his first-hand experience of driving his team's F1 car, he said: Esteban Ocon of France driving the (31) Haas F1 VF-24 Ferrari does donuts during the Goodwood Festival of Speed at Goodwood on July 12, 2025 in Chichester, England. Esteban Ocon of France driving the (31) Haas F1 VF-24 Ferrari does donuts during the Goodwood Festival of Speed at Goodwood on July 12, 2025 in Chichester, England."My first impression of being in the Formula 1 car was that it's very tight in there," said Haas after making his way up the famous Goodwood hill. "There are a lot of nuances you have to learn about the clutch, shifting, and there are a million things going on. The hardest thing to do though is to try to drive a very fast car at a very slow speed." Komatsu drove the VF24 from 2024 on Thursday and Friday. He wrote: "I've absolutely loved today. Yesterday I was a bit nervous because everyone told me this course is tricky, so I drove it very slowly. "Then, when I knew what I was dealing with, this morning I was so relaxed and just enjoyed every second – the process of getting the car to the start line, being inside the car and driving this amazing machinery. "Doing all that in this amazing setting, the Festival of Speed, is such a privilege. I'm very grateful for the experience." Haas has witnessed considerable growth after Komatsu took over the team's leadership ahead of the 2024 season. In 2023, the team finished at the bottom of the constructors' championship, leading many to make purchase offers to Gene. Komatsu pointed out that the team was not for sale. He said before the Festival of Speed: "Honestly, he's seen lots of changes. He's so engaged now. He understands the details as well. What's the best way to put it? He's always been very passionate about the sport and the result. He always wants us to improve, which is what we need from the owner. He was always behind us. "I don't know everything, but in the last 18 months he's had numerous offers to buy the team. He's not interested. He really enjoys being the owner of the F1 team. Currently one out of 10, from next year one out of 11. That's such a privileged position to be in. "He came in at a time when F1 wasn't like this. He stuck with us during such a difficult period of COVID. Now he's enjoying it. "Honestly, Gene's so committed. He's coming here [to Silverstone], obviously. He's arriving Friday or tomorrow and then staying for Goodwood. He's enjoying it. That's the main thing. "We are grateful that we have such a passionate owner, so committed. He's not interested in selling at all. I can tell you recently I had some people really pushing to buy it, [Gene's] not interested. He got even annoyed that these guys are asking so many times."

F1: Liam Lawson's British Grand Prix ends on first lap
Liam Lawson's British Grand Prix has ended on the first lap. Photo: ANTONIN VINCENT Liam Lawson's British Grand Prix was wrecked on the first lap. Lando Norris won his home grand prix for the first time, beating home McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri at a wet and chaotic Silverstone, but the news was all bad for Lawson after the New Zealand Racing Bulls driver was knocked out of the race at just the fifth corner. One of Lawson's tyres was clipped by Haas' Esteban Ocon, and that put him in a spin, spiralling him off the track. "Who the hell was that? I'm out. Who the hell was that?" Lawson, who had started from 15 on the grid, exclaimed on the team radio. The incident caused damage to the floor of his car, affecting the suspension and though he tried to continue, the damage was too great. "It's broken," he told his team. "We're broken. I'm pulling over.'' Once he had stopped, he said: "Whoever this Haas was next to me, oh dude, he just drove straight into the side of me.'' Ocon had been forced wide by Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda and clipped Lawson, who was on his outside. There was no sanction for Ocon over the incident, as he had been pushed wide by Tsunoda. Lawson's teammate Isack Hadjar also failed to finish after driving into the back of Kimi Antonelli and crashing on lap 14. McLaren's British driver Lando Norris lifts the first place trophy after winning the Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone, 6 July, 2025. Photo: AFP Norris shed tears of joy after his win, while Piastri made his unhappiness evident to all, Reuters reported. The Australian, now only eight points clear at the top of the championship, had looked a more likely winner - but a 10-second penalty for braking sharply behind the safety car while leading left Norris as the one celebrating. McLaren had indicated they could appeal the penalty, prompting Piastri to suggest over the radio that he and Norris switch places, but in the end the team told the drivers to continue racing for position. Norris was overcome by emotion as he took the chequered flag 6.8 seconds clear. "We did it, at home. Oh my god, we did it. It's beautiful!" he gasped over the radio. Piastri gave every impression of chewing on lemons as he was interviewed by 2009 world champion Jenson Button before the podium celebrations. "I'm not going to say much. I'll get myself in trouble. Well done to Nico. I think that's the highlight of the day," he said acidly of third-placed finisher Nico Hulkenberg. "Apparently you can't brake behind the safety car any more. I did it for five laps before that." Hulkenberg's achievement also had the tears flowing, the German veteran making up 16 places to shed an unwanted record of the most races without a podium in Formula 1 history - Sunday being his first in 239 starts. "I don't think I can comprehend what we've just done," said the stunned German before wild pitlane celebrations with his teammates. "It feels good. It's been a long time coming, hasn't it? But I always knew we had it in us, I have it in me, somewhere." Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton finished fourth with Red Bull's Max Verstappen fifth after starting on pole position. Pierre Gasly was sixth for Alpine, Lance Stroll seventh for Aston Martin and Alex Albon eighth for Williams. Fernando Alonso gave Aston Martin a double points finish in ninth at their home race and George Russell bagged the final point for Mercedes. - RNZ Sport / Reuters

F1 Rookie, 20, Takes the Casual Approach at the NYC ‘F1' Movie Premiere
F1 Rookie, 20, Takes the Casual Approach at the NYC 'F1' Movie Premiere originally appeared on Parade. Sometimes the casual approach is the best approach, proven tonight (June 16) by MoneyGram Haas F1 Team rookie Ollie Bearman at the F1 movie premiere in New York City. Opposite of his teammate, Esteban Ocon (who was arguably the most dressed-up driver at the function), Ollie donned a rather laid-back look at tonight's F1 movie premiere, opting for a white knit polo, a light blue linen blazer and khaki pants on the red carpet — or in this case, the gray carpet — tying the look together with some matching light blue sneakers. Although he was not dressed to the nines like some of the other F1 drivers, he still looked cute-as-can-be! Bearman did not attend the event alone, though, bringing his girlfriend, Alicia Stent-Torriani, as his date to tonight's F1 movie premiere. Like many of the other WAGs — Alexandra Saint Mleux, Hannah St. John, Flavy Barla, Isabela Bernardini, Eglė Ruškytė-Hülkenberg and more — Stent-Torriani stepped out in an all-black ensemble, contrasting her partner's light and bright look. The structured dress featured a straight-across neckline and a bow in the front, pairing the gorgeous gown with studded black shoes and oh-so dainty jewelry. While Bearman will not be a part of the film, Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Nico Hülkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Nyck de Vries, Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon will all make cameos in F1, with the British driver attending the movie premiere to simply show his support. Although Bearman will be greatly missed, the movie — directed by Joseph Kosinski, written by Ehren Kruger and starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Javier Bardem and more — is certain to be a smash hit nevertheless, centered around the life of Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a fictional F1 driver from 1990s who retired after a terrible accident, revisiting the racing world to join rookie Joshua 'Noah' Pearce (Idris) on the on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP). With this in mind, be sure to mark your calendars — F1 will hit theaters on June 27, and it is a movie that you will truly not want to miss. Fans Can't Stop Talking About This Driver's Oh-So Sharp ‘F1' Movie Premiere Look
Fans Can't Stop Talking About This Driver's Oh-So Sharp 'F1' Movie Premiere Look originally appeared on Parade. You can never go wrong with a classic red carpet look, and one F1 driver definitely took that to heart tonight (June 16). Although his cameo in F1 might be microscopic, that did not stop MoneyGram Haas F1 Team driver Esteban Ocon from stealing the show at tonight's F1 movie premiere in the Big Apple. Aside from Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoleto, he might have been the best-dressed driver at the event, but we'll let you be the judge of that... With his stunning girlfriend by his side, Flavy Barla, Ocon opted for a classy black suit with a matching black bowtie and dress shoes for the F1 movie premiere. His partner understood the assignment as well, with Barla also rocking an all-black ensemble that hugged her curves, featuring cutouts that were the perfect combination of sexy and sleek. Accessorizing the outfit, the medical student-turned-influencer rocked white pumps and a white clutch, as well as gold statement earrings. Given how good both individuals looked, Ocon and Barla might just need to take home the 'cutest couple' award! Despite having a date night on the red carpet — or should we say gray carpet? — the French driver definitely got to spend some time with the rest of the 2025 Formula One grid as well, even stopping to pose for a picture with his teammate, rookie Ollie Bearman, warming the hearts of Formula One fans all across the globe. For those who are unfamiliar, Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly, Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Nico Hülkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Nyck de Vries, Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon — in addition to Ocon — will all make cameos in F1. Aside from seeing our favorite drivers for a split second, Formula One fans can expect to major drama, action and even romance when F1 hits theaters on June 27. As for what the plot will actually entail, the film — starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Javier Bardem and more — is centered around the life of Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a fictional F1 driver who raced in the 1990s and was forced to retire after a terrible accident, who comes out of retirement to mentor rookie Joshua 'Noah' Pearce (Idris) as his teammate. Directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger — with Formula One's very own Lewis Hamilton serving as a producer — F1 is sure to be a movie to remember. Needless to say, we are already counting down the days until June 27...
