Brendan Rodgers addresses Celtic left-back transfer question
The Japanese player, initially not planned to be part of the first team, has impressed during pre-season matches, prompting manager Rodgers to reconsider his options. Inamura played in the 2-1 win over Cork City and the 3-2 loss to Estrela de Amadora. Rodgers said [RecordSport]: "The pre-season is always to assess. "We know the model here at the club is always to improve them. Read more: "Sometimes that means they come in and you assess and look, and look to see what's right for the development of them and the team. "That's what I'm about, getting a collection of individual players that I can see development and improvement in. "If they are going to be close to the first-team, they'll stay and do that. "If not, we may feel they need to go out. "Ina's that example. "I just wanted to get the chance to see him and we'll continue to do that. "But we know in the background that if we need to move on that position, that's something that we will be ready to do." Celtic play Sporting CP on Wednesday.

Rodgers reveals truth about Tierney's Celtic return 'sacrifice'
The left-back played his first 45 minutes since rejoining Celtic in a 3-2 defeat by Estrela de Amadora on Saturday. Rodgers has spoken of Tierney's dedication, stating that the player could have chosen a more lucrative path elsewhere. The manager said [RecordSport]: "In isolation, Kieran coming back is brilliant for the team. "Make no doubt about it, Kieran has sacrificed to come back here in a financial way because he really wanted to come back. Read more: "But to have that player of the quality and experience that he has now, it's going to be really big for us." Tierney, who was sold for £25 million but returned to Celtic for free, has always been in contact with Rodgers, even meeting him in Majorca at the end of last season. Rodgers said: "I've been in contact with him throughout the months. "When I knew he was going out there [Majorca] for a few days before meeting up with Scotland, we arranged to meet up. "I tend to do that. "I met with Callum [McGregor] as well. "It's nice to reassure him." Rodgers believes that Tierney's return is a testament to his love for the club and that he will significantly contribute to Celtic's ambition to progress in European football. The manager added: "We want to make strides in European football so to bring that level of player in will certainly help us to do that. "I know the clubs involved because I was part of the process in bringing him back so I know where he could have gone. "He's not even at his peak age yet, he's still got a lot of years left in him and hopefully we'll have them here at Celtic which I know he's really excited about."

Rodgers makes financial claim about Tierney's Celtic return
The left-back played 45 minutes as the Scottish champions were beaten 3-2 by Estrela de Amadora in a friendly on Saturday. It was his first outing in green and white since rejoining his boyhood club on a five-year deal. Speaking post-match, Rodgers outlined Tierney's financial 'sacrifice'. He said [RecordSport]: "In isolation, Kieran coming back is brilliant for the team. "Make no doubt about it, Kieran has sacrificed to come back here in a financial way because he really wanted to come back. Read more: "But to have that player of the quality and experience that he has now, it's going to be really big for us. 'We want to make strides in European football so to bring that level of playerin will certainly help us to do that. "I think it tells you everything about what he missed and that feeling that he missed when he left. 'I know the clubs involved because I was part of the process in bringing him back so I know where he could have gone. "But this always felt the right place for him when we spoke months ago. I'm really happy for him. "He's not even at his peak age yet, he's still got a lot of years left in him and hopefully we'll have them here at Celtic which I know he's really excited about." Sold for £25 million but brought back for free, it is difficult to argue with the business that saw Tierney return. Rodgers has stayed in touch with the defender and even met him in Majorca towards the end of last season: "I've been in contact with him throughout the months," he said. "When I knew he was going out there [Majorca] for a few days before meeting up with Scotland, we arranged to meet up. "I tend to do that. I met with Callum [McGregor] as well. It's nice to reassure him. "I know what that feeling's like having been somewhere and coming back and the wonder of what it might be like and feel like. "But it's not really until you're back here that you really sense it. That's probably what it's like for him. It's probably a little bit strange initially but once he gets to Celtic Park, he will feel really at home again."

Brendan Rodgers in Celtic left-back transfer update
The Japanese left-back, who was initially brought in not to be part of the first team, has impressed as much in pre-season that boss Rodgers has been forced into a rethink. Inamura started in Celtic's 2-1 win over Cork City on Tuesday evening and played the second half as they lost 3-2 to Estrela de Amadora on Saturday. "The pre-season is always to assess," said Rodgers, as quoted by RecordSport. "We know the model here at the club is always to improve them. "That's what I'm about, getting a collection of individual players that I can see development and improvement in. "If they are going to be close to the first-team, they'll stay and do that.
