Who is Eugenia Cooney? Influencer at the center of viral death hoax after AI summary and post from neighbor
(Image via @eugeniacooney/Instagram) The internet can't stop talking about Eugenia Cooney, but not for the usual reasons. A bizarre and chilling rumor claiming the longtime influencer had 'passed away' exploded across social media this week, after a self-identified neighbor alleged they saw a body bag being taken from her home. With no official statement and barely any recent activity on her socials, the rumor mill spun out of control, and fast. Claims of Eugenia Cooney's passing stir confusion online The story began when a Facebook user posted that they saw an ambulance outside Cooney's home 'around 11 PM' on July 12. The neighbour added that a 'body in a bag' was brought out. This post alone was enough to set Reddit threads and X (formerly Twitter) timelines ablaze, with many users questioning whether the news was true or just another disturbing rumor. undefined Adding to the chaos, screenshots emerged of Meta AI apparently confirming her death, citing 'acute multi-organ dysfunction' and mentioning she had been under 'specialized care for longstanding health conditions.' The AI-generated post described Eugenia as someone who 'remained a prominent figure' despite public concern over her health. While Meta AI's comment has since been removed or flagged for error, the combination of digital confusion and real-world witness claims sent social media into a spiral. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Who Is Eugenia Cooney? Others recalled her Twitch ban in 2022 and TikTok restrictions after increasing backlash. Last livestream fuels concerns before silence In May 2025, Eugenia went live on her usual setup—bright lighting, Hello Kitty decor, and upbeat music. But midway through the stream, she appeared visibly unwell. At one point, she gagged and abruptly ended the broadcast, telling viewers she 'wasn't feeling great.' That was the last fans saw of her in real time. Fans TERRIFIED After YouTube Star Eugenia Cooney COLLAPSES on Livestream Since then, only two videos have been posted on her accounts. Many believe the clips were pre-recorded. The lack of updates, combined with growing AI misinformation and neighbor rumors, created the perfect storm for a viral hoax. What happened to Eugenia Cooney after being AWOL in a livestream?
Imag via YouTube/Eugenia Cooney. After being AWOL for nearly two months, a death hoax regarding Eugenia Cooney is circling all around the internet. Cooney has always been a matter of concern to her fans regarding her underweight condition along with her alleged eating disorder, anorexia. But what has prompted the social media as it is buzzing right now about the death of this popular TikTok and YouTube celebrity? Is she really dead? Let's find out the reality. Is Eugenia Cooney really dead? Eugenia Sullivan Cooney is a prominent face in the world of fashion content creation. Starting way back her journey in the early 2010s, Cooney now boasts a substantial fan following across the major social media platforms - over 2 million on Youtube, almost a quarter less than a million on Instagram, and almost 300 million views on all of her content. Her work mainly revolves around fashion and beauty tutorials, along with emo/goth aesthetics with cosplay, vlogs and many more. But this creator has always been in the pages of controversy. Her recent death hoax has been stirred by a summary from Meta AI. This summary claimed that on July 15m 2025, Cooney passed away at the age of 30. This dispute got even more heated up by another claim from one of Cooney's alleged neighbors, named Trixie, who stated that she lived around the block from her and saw an ambulance and a body bag carrying a body. These two claims were the real reason the death hoax of Cooney is trending all around the internet. For some seconds, these claims might sound very real. Eugenia Cooney has always been a controversial person and the main reason behind that is her poor health condition. In 2015, fans signed a petition to ban this creator as according to them she put bad influence on his viewers regarding strong concerns over her extremely thin appearance, with critics accusing her of being 'thinspiration' for eating disorders. However, one year later Cooney stated that she didn't promote any eating disorder. She suffered from another death hoax when she took a break from social media in Feb 2019, citing health issues. Although she returned after a few months, but that didn't happen in May 2025. This was the month when we saw Cooney in a livestream on any social media platform. But this livestream ended abruptly as she appeared to collapse and started gagging. She ended the livestream informing everyone that she 'wasn't feeling great.' After that, a couple of videos have been shared by her social media accounts, but those two looked pre-recorded. There hasn't been any official update about Cooney's health from her family since then, but her friend Jeffree Star gave a follow-up saying she was 'clearly not okay.' As we don't have any concrete confirmation about Cooney's health, all the death hoaxes circling around him shouldn't be encouraged and fans need to stop spreading these rumors. Until we are getting any official news from her social media handles or her family, all we should do is to pray for Cooney's speedy recovery from whatever medical situation she is right now. Fans alarmed as frail influencer collapses during livestream
Eugenia Cooney left her fans alarmed after appearing to collapse during a livestream The social media influencer was conducting a makeup tutorial when she slumped back on her sofa and appeared to gag. The 30-year-old blamed 'stress' and admitted she 'wasn't feeling that great' before abruptly ending the stream. The heartbreaking footage has since been seen by millions and commentators have taken to social media to express concern. Days later, Eugenia's close friend and influencer Jeffree Star - who boasts 7.9million TikTok followers - admitted she was 'clearly not ok' and that viewers had 'no idea what she's going through.' Based in Los Angeles, Eugenia shares fashion and beauty content with her 2.7 million TikTok followers, 720,000 on Instagram and 2.1 million subscribers on YouTube. She rarely addresses her body or diet but has previously spoken about her struggles with eating disorders. Since she began posting on YouTube in 2013, viewers have repeatedly voiced concern over her extremely thin appearance. There have even been petitions calling for her to be banned by social media platforms to force her to seek help for eating disorders. 'She genuinely looked so scared before she ended that live,' one TikTok user wrote, following the appearance. 'That stare she was doing when she sat back was so scary and upsetting. I think this is the worst I've seen her,' said another. Some comments were even darker, with fans expressing fears that Eugenia may not have long left. 'We all know exactly what is going on and it's horrifying,' added a third. Health professionals warn that extreme fatigue, difficulty concentrating and a gaunt appearance can be signs of serious medical conditions, including malnourishment as a result of severe, long-term food restriction. As well as causing low mood and energy, it can result in muscle loss, which raises the risk of falls, mobility problems and weakened immunity - making infections more likely. Severe depletion of subcutaneous fat, which lies just beneath the skin, can also lead to pressure sores and delayed wound healing. Responding angrily to what appeared to be incessant questions from fans speculating about her health, Star said: 'People love tearing others down even when they're at their worst. 'It's a given that things aren't ok. It's a given. 'You don't know what's happening behind the scenes. You don't know the steps that I've taken, the phone calls I've had, the things that I'm doing. You have no idea. 'When I said she was okay yesterday it was so you would shut up. Clearly she's not okay and I love her... and I will be here for her and I am here for her. 'You have no idea what she's going through. Show a little compassion, show a little kindness.' Two pre-recorded videos have appeared on Eugenia's account since the incident — though fans claim one was filmed at least a year ago. She has not returned to TikTok Live since. Eugenia received treatment for an eating disorder in 2019, reportedly following an intervention by concerned friends. Later that year, she confirmed she had 'an eating disorder' in a widely viewed interview with fellow YouTuber Shane Dawson - a video that has since been watched more than 30 million times. In an interview with U.S. psychotherapist and YouTuber Kati Morton, Eugenia admitted she was no longer in 'super-constant therapy,' but added: 'Whenever I do feel like I'm struggling, I am able to talk to a therapist and message her.' She has not, however, mentioned since if she has received any further treatment. In the UK, eating disorders, including bulimia, anorexia and binge eating disorder, affect some 1.25 million people. Damning new figures released last August also showed children's eating disorders had doubled in under a decade. Experts have also repeatedly raised concerns that the impressionable minds of children and young adults are being easily swayed by social media. Last year, Australian researchers found watching even 10 minutes of videos on TikTok can negatively affect a woman's body image. Experts at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales surveyed 273 women aged 18 to 28 on their body image and beauty standards, before splitting them into two groups. The first watched eight-minute compilations of TikTok videos that included those glorifying eating disorders, dubbed 'pro-anorexia' content. The other's eight-minute compilation included videos involving nature, cooking and comedy. While both groups later reported a decrease in body image satisfaction, those exposed to pro-anorexia content saw the largest drop. Writing in the journal Plos One, the researchers warned that young women exposed to pro-anorexia content on TikTok could face an increase risk of developing disordered eating. In 2023 TikTok was warned it was not moving swiftly enough to strengthen its content policies after a study found its recommendation algorithm pushed self-harm and eating disorder content to teenagers within minutes of them expressing interest in the topics.
