Have you got what it takes to be the next Australian Idol?

Fancy yourself as a singer? Sick and tired of wasting your voice, singing in the shower, or in the car, or in front of an unappreciative audience of five at your local pub's karaoke night? Now's your chance. Film yourself singing, fill out an online form, upload your video or share a link, and hold your breath. "We know Newcastle is brimming with fresh talent and we'd love to showcase some of it in the next season of the show," a spokesperson fro Eureka Productions told the Newcastle Herald. "We're excited to see what Newcastle has to offer and encourage performers from all genres to apply. "Newcastle auditions begin as virtual. Interested performers are encouraged to fill out an application form at and callbacks will be held over Zoom in July." In a promotional video uploaded to Australian Idol's Facebook page, host Ricki-Lee Coulter says: "Whether you're country or crooner, rapper or rockstar, or anything in-between, Australian Idol wants to hear from you." A good voice and stage presence isn't enough, though. To be considered, you must be an Australian; a New Zealand citizen living in Australia; or a current permanent resident of Australia. You must not have an existing contract with any other television show or record label. And, importantly, you must be aged between 15 and 35 (as of October 1, 2025) to audition. That has rubbed some wanna-be Idols up the wrong way, if social media comments are anything to go by ("Can we just leave the auditions open for all ages? The oldest contestant in Eurovision this year was 52!" ... "Can't anyone older than 35 sing?" ..."Only 15 - 35 years old?? Ageism right there!! LOL!! I'm 51!!" ... "It's always been for younger people. I think The Voice has a wider age range"). Yes, that's true. The Voice auditions are open to ages 13 and up. If you meet the criteria and are considering auditioning for Australian Idol 2026, the following statistics might be of interest. This year's grand finale, won by Marshall Hamburger, reached 1.85 million people across Seven and 7plus, which was a 13 per cent increase on the 2024 grand finale. Across its full 2025 season, Australian Idol reached 11.14 million people. And Hamburger won $100,000 in prize money and an exclusive recording package with Hive Sound Studios. "Our call out and dedicated website at has been created to make it as easy as possible for all Newcastle residents to showcase their talents and chase their Idol dream," the spokesperson said. ‘The Floor' & ‘Extracted' Renewed At Fox

EXCLUSIVE: Rob Lowe's heading back into the studio and a new group of survivalists are heading into the wilderness after Fox renewed unscripted series The Floor and Extracted. The Floor has been renewed for Season 4 and Season 5 and Extracted returns for its second season. More from Deadline 'Grimsburg', 'Krapopolis' & 'Universal Basic Guys' Renewed At Fox Fox Greenlights Biblical Event Series 'The Faithful' From Carol Mendelsohn For Spring 2026 Josh Charles To Star In Fox Adaptation Of British Hit 'Doc Martin' Ordered To Series For 2025-26 The news comes ahead of Fox's Upfront next week. The Floor is a physical quiz show that sees contestants face off in quiz duels on a giant LED floor divided into a hundred equal squares, each representing its own field of knowledge. In each episode, the first challenger, selected at random, must choose one of his or her neighboring opponents to go head-to-head in an epic quiz duel in the opponent's category. The winner takes over the loser's square, gaining valuable ground as they expand their territory, while the loser exits the game. The winner must then choose – do they continue on and attempt to secure another square? Or do they let The Floor choose a new challenger? The last contestant standing who gains full control over The Floor takes home a $250,000 cash prize. It is produced by John De Mol's Talpa Studios, The Mole producer Eureka Productions and BiggerStage, a production company based in Ireland, where it is filmed. De Mol, Maartin Meijs, Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, Jayne Parker, Pat Kiely and Sean O'Riordan serve as executive producers. Anthony Carbone serves as showrunner and Rob Lowe, who has a first-look deal with the network, is co-exec producer. The first season premiered in January 2024; in May 2024 it was renewed for seasons two and three. Season two premiered in September and the third season returned in February after the Super Bowl, which Fox said made it the highest-rated unscripted entertainment series telecast in the last two years. This deal marks its latest two-season order. Meanwhile, Extracted, which counts Sylvester Stallone among its exec producers, is returning to the Canadian wilderness for its second season. It features 12 untrained competitors attempting to survive extremely grueling conditions, perilous terrain, and the threat of fearsome predators in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness. Meanwhile, some miles away, their family members are locked down at a secluded headquarters watching them navigate their dangerous surroundings alone via a 24/7 live feed. The fate of each untrained contestant in the wilderness lies in the hands of their family members back in HQ. Each amateur survivalist's family has the power to decide whether their loved one has what it takes to brave the elements and fight to be the last one standing, or whether the family will push the ominous 'Extract' button and remove their loved one and their whole family from the competition. Extracted begs the question: how far will their loved ones let them go for a chance for their family to win $250,000? It comes from Sony Pictures Television's B17 Entertainment, Sylvester Stallone's Balboa Productions and Fox Entertainment. Stallone, Rhett Bachner, Brien Meagher, Braden Aftergood, Kourosh Taj, Rob Buchta and Lauren Taylor Harding serving as exec producer with Harding also serving as showrunner. The show launched in February and wrapped up its ten-part run in April. Fox said Extracted's premiere ranked as broadcast's highest-rated unscripted series debut in nearly a year. It's been a busy week for Fox, which renewed The Masked Singer for Season 14 with the singing competition returning in January, eschewing a fall run for the first time since its launch in 2019. The network has also renewed a number of its scripted shows including comedies Animal Control and Going Dutch, ordered new series including a Josh Charles-led adaptation of British drama Doc Martin and canceled Rescue HI-Surf after one season.
