Dr. Darla Hoover named as the next EVSC superintendent
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Dr. Darla Hoover has been named the next Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation superintendent. Her appointment marks the first female EVSC superintendent. Dr. Hoover is currently serving as the Chief of Schools and Instructional Care for EVSC. This comes after Dr. David Smith announced his plans to retire in January. Dr. Smith delivered his final State of the School address earlier this month and says stepping down is bittersweet. He has been with the EVSC for 43 years, including 14 years as the superintendent. Dr. Hoover will officially step into the role on July 1. Eyewitness News has a crew at the EVSC meeting and we will provide more information as it becomes available. EVSC superintendent delivers final 'State of the Schools' address
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation Superintendent Dr. David Smith delivered his final 'State of the Schools' address. Smith has served in the EVSC for 43 years, and has been the superintendent for the last 14 years. We're told one of his greatest contributions will be the leadership team he is leaving behind. During the address, Dr. Smith spoke about the school's programming, it's partnership with Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center and early college classes. The school corporation offers over 300 certifications and makes over 250 internships available to students. We're told a new superintended is expected to be named this month. EVSC robotics team heads to worlds
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Big things are on the horizon for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation's robotics team. The New Tech Institute's team won the Engineering Inspiring award after competing in Indianapolis, and will head to worlds. The competition, held in Houston, will put the team competing among 600 teams from across the world. The CEO of the team says the goal for the program is to inspire kids in STEM at all ages.
