‘I Didn't Know.' One Thing Miley Cyrus Wishes She Could Go Back And Change About Hannah Montana's Later Years
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nearly 20 years after it premiered, Hannah Montana remains a pop culture favorite among fans that can be rewatched with a Disney+ subscription. Its impact on the entertainment industry turned Miley Cyrus into the youngest celeb inducted as a Disney Legend. Despite going through her many different eras and struggling with fame after the show ended, both Hannah Montana and the Hannah persona still mean a lot to the 'Something Beautiful' singer, but there is still at least one thing Cyrus would change about the Disney show. One of the best things about Hannah Montana, if not the best thing, is Miley Cyrus' talents as a singer and performer IRL. Not only did Cyrus put on the wig and outfits and perform actual concerts, but she also had a hand in writing some of Hannah's biggest hits. She was inspired to lend more of her voice after her attempts to maturate the character went unfulfilled. Speaking on the podcast Every Single Album, Cyrus said she now wishes she'd been just as quick to make sure her contributions were legally recognized. In her words: I didn't know to like ask for songwriting credit because I didn't even know because I'm like, well, it's going to say 'Hannah Montana' and I'm Hannah Montana, so that's enough credit for me. But now I'm like, I should have really had more credit in there because I was shaping that whole identity of the thing. And a lot of the songs were written off experiences that I was having. Fans of Hannah Montana know that there are some very personal songs, and although Cyrus shared that some tracks are 'episodic' in that they work for a specific episode or storyline, there are certainly others that more directly reflect her personal life. Her initial reasoning for not pushing for songwriting credits makes sense, since she was just a child star trying to succeed, and naively believed that portraying Hannah Montana was simply enough. Which is part of the reason why Meet Miley Cyrus was a thing. The character's second album, aptly named Hannah Montana 2, was a double album that also featured 10 songs sung by Cyrus as herself. The songs were inspired by a breakup, and she was truly able to be herself and have songwriting credits. But it gave fans just a taste of who she really is, and although Hannah was never able to veer into more mature storytelling with those songs' lyrics, Cyrus putting out her own music gave her that form of expression. Regardless of Hannah Montana's clean-cut image and Miley Cyrus trying her best to give her a mature edge, she has proven time and time again that the experience meant the world to her. She even shared an emotional letter on the show's 15th anniversary, showing that she will always be Hannah. It's hard to believe that several actresses nearly earned the lead role in Hannah Montana, such as Lucy Hale and Aly Michalka, and it's equally hard to imagine how different things would have been had Cyrus not won the executives over. It would have been nice to see a more mature Hannah from the start, but perhaps a reboot will come together in the future that finally gives the actress the chance, even if it's not part of the 2025 TV schedule.

Miley Cyrus Reveals How She Felt About Nick Jonas After Breakup
never holds back from baring her soul, and she is one of the few stars who loves to speak her mind. In a recent episode of the 'Every Single Album' podcast, the actor struck old chords, reflecting on her teen romance with ex Nick Jonas. Cyrus not only opened up about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend but also admitted that she is still into him. However, Cyrus revealed that there are no bad feelings between them despite a bad breakup. Miley Cyrus is not holding back from talking about her previous relationship with her ex, Nick Jonas. On the June 6 episode of the 'Every Single Album' podcast, the 32-year-old even disclosed what she actually wanted to write about Jonas in her 2009 book, 'Miles to Go,' post-breakup, instead of what was published. 'I probably was like … 'Nick Jonas dumped me, he's a d—.' But they were like, 'We can say he's not a very nice boy,'' referring to the writer with whom she worked then. 'But I was probably like, 'He's an a——.'' Cyrus and Jonas first met in 2006 at a Charity Benefit. The Jonas Brothers even guest-starred on her 'Hannah Montana,' the Disney sitcom that launched Cyrus to stardom. During their time together, the former couple collaborated on the songs 'Before the Storm' and 'We Got the Party.' However, their whirlwind romance came to an end in 2007 after Jonas broke up with Cyrus right before the concert. Despite the bitter breakup over a decade ago, Cyrus has only good things to say about her ex now. In the podcast, she admitted that she still 'like[s] Nick' and is still 'into him.' The singer also gushed over their nickname from when they dated, quipping, 'Niley for life.' The pop icon even acknowledged that despite the past, both of them have moved on, and 'everything is good in the world.' Jonas is married to actor Priyanka Chopra. The couple is also parents to daughter Malti Marie. Meanwhile, Cyrus has been in a relationship with musician Maxx Morando since 2021 after her divorce from her ex-husband, actor Liam Hemsworth. 'The drugs were the biggest cost, which to hide those from my accountant, we called them 'vintage clothes,'' Cyrus divulged. 'And so she would get these checks of thousands of dollars' worth of vintage clothes,' the Flowers songstress continued. But over time, the 'vintage clothes' costs caused her accountant to grow suspicious, but she was discreet in how she approached the singer. 'Every time she saw me, she'd be like, 'Where's that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?'' Cyrus recalled. Your noon-hour look at what's happening in Toronto and beyond. 'I feel like the things that I was able to find — I can write songs as well (while sober), but I can't find things like 'Tangerine.'' Cyrus has been open about her sobriety, saying in a 2017 interview with Billboard that she was 'evolving' after giving up marijuana. 'I haven't smoked weed in three weeks, which is the longest I've ever (gone without it),' she said at the time. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Miley Cyrus admits she used to hide thousands of dollars in drugs from accountant
NEW YORK — Miley Cyrus is getting candid about her past drug use, including a time when she says she hid tens of thousands of dollars worth of drug purchases from her accountant. The Grammy-winning 'Flowers' singer, 32, confirmed that 'drugs were the biggest cost' of her recording her 2015 self-funded album, 'Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.' 'To hide those from my accountant, we called them 'vintage clothes,'' she revealed on Friday's episode of The Ringer's 'Every Single Album' podcast. 'So she would get these checks for thousands of dollars worth of vintage clothes.' Eventually, her accountant began to wonder where those clothes actually were. 'Every time she saw me, she'd be like, 'Where's that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?'' Cyrus recalled. 'I was like, 'Oh, it's upstairs. … We just really want to protect it. It's really delicate.'' Cyrus admitted to buying 'a lot of 'vintage clothes' that year,' saying she's grateful she 'survived' that period of her life. 'I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I'm very glad I got to do it,' she said. The Disney Channel alum has since been vocal about getting sober — first from marijuana in 2017 and then alcohol three years later. She credits sobriety with having 'changed (her) entire life.' Cyrus is currently riding the wave of her May 30 album release, 'Something Beautiful.' This week at the Tribeca Festival, Cyrus debuted the accompanying visual album. __________

‘Niley for life': Miley Cyrus on how break up with Priyanka Chopra's husband Nick Jonas affected her deeply; how lingering love and nostalgia blurs boundaries
Singer Miley Cyrus recently opened up about her past with Priyanka Chopra's husband Nick Jonas, and her confession caught many off guard. Speaking on the Every Single Album podcast, Miley said, 'I like Nick; I'm into him.' Reflecting on their breakup that happened over two decades ago, she admitted, 'I was distraught after our breakup. I was, like, sobbing, crying, unable to eat.' Miley and Nick dated as teenagers between 2006 and 2007 and briefly rekindled things in 2009. As for the reason behind their split, she revealed, 'Part of the reason we broke up was that he was going on tour with his band instead of taking me as his opening act. He was, like, separating himself from the Disney thing, and I wanted him to take me on the tour. Like, 'Why don't we do it together? I don't understand why you're leaving me.' Years later, Miley says, 'He's married with children. We're all moving on. Everything is good in the world.' Reminiscing about the good times, she fondly recalled the nickname fans gave her and Nick during their dating days, and to their delight, added, 'Niley for life.' Gurleen Baruah, existential psychotherapist at That Culture Thing reflects on Cyrus's words and tells 'Romantic feelings can linger long after a relationship ends because love isn't just about the other person — it's also about how we felt in their presence. So when it ends, what stays isn't always the person, but the memory of who we were with them. That's why even years later, a passing thought or memory can stir deep emotions — it reminds us of a part of ourselves we once connected to through them.' A post shared by Priyanka (@priyankachopra) It's not always easy to tell whether this is real longing or just nostalgia, adds Baruah. 'One way to check is to ask: do I miss them, or do I miss the time, the feeling, the safety, or the version of me that existed back then? If the feelings return during periods of change, loneliness, or uncertainty, it might be more about something unresolved inside — like needing closure, grieving an old part of life, or holding on to a fantasy. Letting go doesn't always mean forgetting; sometimes it means understanding what that relationship represented and gently reclaiming those parts of ourselves.' Miley struggled to understand Nick's decision to separate their careers, saying, 'I don't understand why you're leaving me.' Baruah notes that in the early years of love — especially during adolescence or early adulthood — it's common to blur the line between 'me' and 'us.' 'The intensity of closeness can make it feel like any distance or differentiation is a form of rejection. But learning to hold space for intimacy and individuality is a key part of emotional maturity. When one partner chooses to focus on their career or personal growth, it doesn't necessarily mean they are leaving the other; it might mean they are trying to stay connected to themselves,' shares Baruah. Healthy boundaries are not about creating walls but about making room for two whole people to exist in a relationship. Especially during formative years, maintaining individuality helps partners support each other more authentically, without losing themselves. This kind of love often stands on more solid ground.
