Miley Cyrus Shares How She Hid Drug Expenses As ‘Vintage Clothes' From Her Accountant
Last Updated:
Miley Cyrus discussed her past drug use and the chaos of her 2015 album on the Every Single Album podcast.
Miley Cyrus is well-versed in the art of reinvention. From her days as a Disney Channel star to becoming a chart-topping artist, the 32-year-old has built a career marked by transformation. Recently, on the Every Single Album podcast, Cyrus shared her early experiences with drugs and the turmoil that influenced her 2015 experimental album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. She provided fans with a candid glimpse into what she now considers a chaotic period in her life. 'The drugs were the biggest cost," she confessed. 'Which, to hide those from my accountant, we called them vintage clothes."
Cyrus didn't hold back from sharing specifics. 'She [the accountant] would get these checks. That happens on touring all the time," Miley explained. 'And every time she saw me, she'd be like, 'Where's that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?' And I'd say, 'Oh, it's upstairs.'" The singer continued, 'We just really want to protect it. It's really delicate. The fabric…got to take care of it! So I bought a lot of vintage clothes that year." That 'vintage" wardrobe, of course, was a euphemism for her heavy drug use.
Reflecting on her past, Cyrus is filled with gratitude. 'I'm so glad I survived that time in my life," she said. 'I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it… I'm very glad I got to do it." Since then, the singer has embarked on a journey of sobriety. In a 2017 interview with Billboard, she described herself as 'evolving" after quitting marijuana. She has been sober since 2019, except for a brief relapse during the pandemic. Nowadays, sobriety is non-negotiable: 'That's like my God. I need it," she says.
On the professional front, Cyrus recently moved fans with an emotional rendition of The Climb, a nostalgic ballad from Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) that once defined her Disney era. She also humorously noted how her drummer boyfriend, Maxx Morando, has been eagerly waiting since middle school to perform this song.

Labubu-maker Pop Mart diversifies into jewellery with new concept store
"Blind box" toymaker Pop Mart , which has seen frenzied sales worldwide for products related to its ugly-cute Labubu character, opened its first jewellery store in Shanghai on Friday. The jewellery concept store, called Popop, sells accessories adorned with Pop Mart's top-selling characters, including Labubu, Molly and Skullpanda. While Chinese consumption remains subdued in the face of a prolonged property downturn and sluggish economy, Pop Mart's affordable and adorable toys have remained in high demand both at home and abroad, driving its share price up more than 200 per cent so far this year. Investor Zhang Ming, 34, who owns Pop Mart stocks worth 100 million yuan ($13.92 million), flew from his base in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing for the opening to check out the new store type and decide whether to increase his shareholding in the company. "I believe that the pricing and target audience for this brand are particularly well-suited, and I am confident that Pop Mart could potentially become China's version of Disney," Zhang said, predicting that the company's market cap could double from its current $45.65 billion valuation. Along with some Disney characters and others related to anime, comics and popular video games, Pop Mart's characters are seen as fulfilling what has been called " emotional consumption ", which sees young consumers spend on affordable luxuries that bring joy into their lives. Fang Ke, 35, who has a birthday coming up this month decided to treat herself to a 699 yuan Labubu bracelet at the opening. "I've loved Pop Mart for a long time; it's good-looking, brightly coloured, and also has a visual impact," she said. "My daughter likes it too." At Popop, prices start at around 350 yuan for charms or a simple silver ring, and go as high as 2699 yuan for necklaces adorned with metallic models of the characters. Most pieces are priced at under 1,000 yuan. At a traditional Pop Mart store, the "blind box" toys that the chain is best known for generally sell for 69 yuan and up, but consumers have shown a willingness to shell out much more for limited editions. Earlier this week, a Beijing auction house sold a human-sized Labubu figure for 1.08 million yuan, setting a new record and marking the toy's switch from craze to collectible. ($1 = 7.1821 Chinese yuan renminbi)

Slick Rick returns after 26 years with Victory album and proves hip-hop storytelling still reigns
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hip-hop legend Slick Rick is proving his creative spark is far from fading. The English-born rapper — known for his signature eye patch and masterful storytelling — returned to the booth with his first new project in nearly three decades. He's reminding the world of his timeless rap prowess on his visual album, 'Victory,' released Friday. It marks Slick Rick's first album since 1999's 'The Art of Storytelling.' This new project is largely self-produced, with the rapper handling 95% of the production and sharing executive producer duties with Emmy-nominated actor and occasional rapper-DJ Idris Elba, who appears on the album alongside Nas, Giggs and Estelle. 'You was a young adult, then a middled aged man and now you're an older man, so my mentality has to grow with it,' said Slick Rick, known for his rap classic such as 'Children's Story,' 'La Di Da Di' with Doug E. Fresh and 'Mona Lisa.' His debut album, 'The Great Adventures of Slick Rick,' in 1988 hit No. 1 on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop charts. 'Victory' was four years in the making, with Slick Rick, now 60, writing and recording the album between his birthplace of London then France, while the visuals were filmed in the United States, United Kingdom and Africa. Slick Rick believes his voice still resonates in hip-hop. He said the subjects he tackles have grown with him. 'Can't always be children all the time,' he said. 'We grow and talk about things that interest us at this age.' In a recent interview, Slick Rick spoke with The Associated Press about how storytelling plays a role in today's rap, his relationship with Elba and how hip-hop has no limitations. Remarks have been edited for clarity and brevity. SLICK RICK: We met at a party and then we clicked. His people reached out to me, and they wanted to make an album. They flew me to England and France. I hung out with Idris at his cribs, and we just did what we do. We just had fun, And then when we was finished, we said, 'Yeah, we're ready to bring it to the marketplace.' SLICK RICK: It might've been a little hesitation, but you're just having fun. We just bringing it to the marketplace and see what happens. There's no pressure or nothing. We're bringing it to the people to see if they like it. Feed them. SLICK RICK: When we were in the studio with Idris doing our thing, I checked the reactions of people. But then I saw people in their happy place. Once I saw that, I'm good. I see him and his people's happy. A little dancing. Popped a little Moet. We were having a good time. SLICK RICK: It's what Black people like. We're not just hip-hop. We like reggae. We like house music. Let's say like the Beatles or Barry Manilow. We go all over the place. Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross. We go places. We try to entertain ourselves in different areas of existence. SLICK RICK: It was saving time. People make songs and do videos anyway. So why not just speed this up real quick? Video and rap both at the same time. Boom, let's keep it moving. ... This is like watching a movie. You want to expand the picture. Not only do you hear my voice and the music, which is the essence. You get ... visual picture as well. SLICK RICK: In my creative process, I need to have a lot of input or it's not going to be authentic Rick. Too many hands, it's not going to pop. So many hands is going to distort stuff. I do my own music most of the time. SLICK RICK: It's an open space. It hasn't been filled, the whole storytelling thing. Before it gets too lost back into braggadocios, one frequency. Expand your horizons. You don't always have to be rough. Be romantic. Be humorous. Be vulnerable. Go all over. Be a politician. Use your imagination. Go places, so we can take stories and give to our people's imagination.

Miley Cyrus' Brother Trace Accuses Ex-Girlfriend Brenda Song of FAKING Pregnancy and Cancer: 'We Were Catching on...'
Trace Cyrus has made a major revelation about his ex-girlfriend, Brenda Song. The musician, who also happens to be Miley Cyrus' brother, took to his Instagram to share a list of lies that the actress told him while in a relationship from 2010 to 2017. Cyrus also went on to mention that Song faked her pregnancy as well as her brain tumor while also stealing a thousand dollars from the Let's Run Away crooner. Trace, in response to one of the users in the comment section of his post, revealed that the Suite Life of Zack and Cody star also faked her illness, convincing him and her family that the actress had breast cancer. Trace Cyrus accuses Brenda Song of faking pregnancy, abortion and brain tumor Trace, who dated the Disney alum for six years, went on to list Song's lies in the comment section after a user mentioned that the actress leaving the musician was a good riddance for her. The Seventeen Forever singer responded, 'yes because she stole thousands of dollars from me and faked multiple pregnancies & lied about being terminally ill to make my family and I think she had breast cancer and a brain tumor.' The musician also went on to state, 'It was all a lie; she was humiliated to show her face around my family again once we figured it out and my mom confronted her and called her out on all of it.' Cyrus also went on to add that the actress spilled fake blood across the bathroom, after which he and his mother rushed her to the hospital. It was then that Song's lies were unraveled. On a different occasion, the Prescriptions crooner also mentioned that Song pretended to have brain tumor surgery in Chicago. He revealed that his ex came in with a bandage across her head. When he removed it, no surgery had been performed. Trace, however, provided no proof of his claims. He is known to rant on social media, as he did about his dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, previously. Following her split from Cyrus, Brenda Song went on to date the Home Alone star, Macaulay Culkin. The duo also welcomed their two kids in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
