Asus ExpertBook P1 review: The business laptop that doesn't break the bank
In a market filling in with flashy gaming rigs and ultra-premium ultrabooks, the Asus ExpertBook P1 arrives with a different proposition entirely. This isn't a laptop trying to be everything to everyone, it's a machine with a clear mission: delivering dependable business performance without the enterprise price tag. The ExpertBook P1 occupies a middle ground. It's substantial enough to handle serious workloads yet accessible enough for small businesses and individual professionals who've been priced out of traditional enterprise solutions. The question isn't whether it can compete with premium ultrabooks, it's whether it can redefine what we expect from a business laptop at this price point. Taking the 'design' high road The ExpertBook P1 makes no apologies for its utilitarian appearance. Wrapped in a matte grey finish, it embodies the philosophy that good business tools should be noticed for their reliability, not their aesthetics. The 19.7mm thickness might seem generous by today's ultrabook standards, but every millimetre serves a purpose. This isn't accidental bulk, it's intentional engineering. The thicker chassis accommodates a comprehensive port selection that eliminates the dongle dance plaguing thinner machines. Full-sized HDMI, dedicated Ethernet, dual USB-A ports, and twin USB-C connections create a connectivity ecosystem that actually enhances productivity rather than hindering it. The left-side port placement is particularly thoughtful, keeping your mouse area unencumbered during extended work sessions. Despite the plastic construction, which admittedly feels less premium than aluminium alternatives, the laptop maintains reassuring solidity. The 180-degree hinge isn't just a design flourish; it transforms the device into a collaborative tool during impromptu presentations or team discussions. Military-grade MIL-STD-810H certification backs up the sturdy feel with quantifiable durability metrics, including resistance to 50kg of pressure and protection against 66cc of liquid spills on the keyboard. What strikes you most about the physical design is its honesty. There are nno unnecessary flourishes or attention-seeking elements. The webcam privacy shutter, reinforced hinges tested for 50,000 cycles, and tool-free battery access panels all speak to a machine designed for the long haul rather than the short impression. The keyboard strikes a careful balance between comfort and functionality. The full-size layout with 1.35mm key travel creates a satisfying typing experience for extended document work, though the lack of backlighting on some configurations can prove frustrating in dimly lit environments. The spill-resistant design adds practical value for coffee-fueled work sessions. The trackpad presents a mixed experience. While generous in size and responsive to multi-touch gestures, the integrated fingerprint sensor reduces the usable surface area noticeably. Users accustomed to larger, uninterrupted trackpad surfaces might find the adjustment period longer than expected, though the security convenience often compensates for the spatial compromise. Choosing practicality where it should be The 14-inch Full HD IPS display won't win any awards for colour accuracy or brightness, but it accomplishes something more valuable, it works consistently well across various environments. The 300-nit brightness combined with anti-glare coating creates a viewing experience that prioritises functionality over visual drama, though you'll notice the limitations when working outdoors or in brightly lit spaces. This is decidedly not a content creation display. The 45% NTSC colour gamut coverage makes that clear from the start, and the somewhat uneven backlight illumination becomes apparent during darker scenes. However, for its intended audience, professionals juggling spreadsheets, documents, presentations, and video calls, the display proves entirely adequate. Text remains crisp, web content appears balanced, and the wide 178-degree viewing angles ensure presentations remain visible even when sharing the screen with colleagues. The 16:9 aspect ratio feels refreshingly traditional in an era of increasingly tall displays. For business applications, this format maximises horizontal workspace, making side-by-side document comparison more natural. The thick bezels, while aesthetically dated, serve a practical purpose, they provide something to grip when carrying the laptop open between meetings. Perhaps most importantly, the display doesn't tire your eyes during extended use. The anti-glare treatment effectively reduces reflections, while the absence of PWM flickering ensures comfortable viewing even during marathon work sessions. It's a display that quietly does its job without calling attention to itself, exactly what many business users actually need. Surprising strength in familiar packaging The Intel Core i7-13620H processor is a little dated, and it won't be any newer later on, but it still delivers a contemporary performance that exceeds expectations. This 10-core processor, paired with 32GB of DDR5 RAM, creates a computing environment that handles demanding multitasking scenarios with remarkable composure – though the single-channel RAM configuration does leave some performance on the table that dual-channel memory would unlock. Loading heavy Excel workbooks while running multiple browser tabs, Zoom calls, and background applications rarely triggers any performance hiccups. The processor's hybrid architecture, combining performance and efficiency cores, proves particularly effective for business workloads that mix intensive calculations with lighter maintenance tasks, even if the thermal constraints prevent it from reaching its full turbo potential during sustained loads. Photo editing in Lightroom proceeds smoothly for most adjustments, while Premiere Pro handles basic video editing tasks without significant struggle. However, the integrated Intel UHD graphics clearly shows its limitations when pushed beyond basic productivity tasks. This won't leave you stranded if occasional multimedia work emerges, but creative professionals will quickly bump against the GPU's ceiling. The thermal management deserves praise despite the system's tendency to run warm during intensive tasks. Asus's ExpertCool technology maintains consistent performance without the aggressive fan curves that plague many business laptops. Even under sustained loads, the system remains relatively quiet, crucial for open office environments and video conferences. The rear vent design prevents hot air from flowing back toward the user, though the laptop can become uncomfortably warm on your lap during extended use. The 512GB PCIe 4.0 drive provides ample speed for business applications, while the second M.2 slot offers straightforward expansion options for users requiring additional storage. The 32GB of RAM might seem excessive for basic business use, but it transforms the multitasking experience, allowing virtual machines, large datasets, and multiple productivity applications to coexist without performance degradation. Practical endurance for working professionals Battery performance on the ExpertBook P1 reflects its business-first approach, prioritising consistent availability over headline-grabbing endurance figures. The 50Wh battery delivers approximately 7-8 hours of mixed usage, encompassing typical business workloads including document editing, web browsing, video calls, and light multimedia consumption, though this falls short of the all-day performance many modern ultrabooks achieve. This isn't the marathon computing experience promised by some competitors, but it aligns well with realistic business usage patterns. Most professionals work near power sources, making the ExpertBook P1's battery life sufficient for meetings, travel between locations, and temporary disconnection from desk setups. Power management proves intelligent across different usage scenarios, with light productivity tasks extending battery life noticeably while video conferences and processor-intensive applications draw more power as expected. The fast-charging capability becomes more relevant than raw endurance, reaching 60% capacity in under 50 minutes transforms brief breaks into substantial battery recovery periods. The 65W USB-C charger adds versatility to the charging equation, with its compatibility with PD and PPS standards meaning it can charge smartphones and other USB-C devices, reducing cable clutter in mobile work setups. Redefining business values 68,990 for the Core i7 configuration, it competes favourably against consumer laptops while offering superior durability, security features, and serviceability. Yes, the plastic build feels less premium than aluminium alternatives, the display won't satisfy creative professionals, and the single-channel RAM configuration leaves performance untapped. The battery life trails modern ultrabooks, and the integrated graphics struggle with anything beyond basic tasks. But here's where the ExpertBook P1's shines: these limitations don't detract from its core mission. The plastic construction proves remarkably durable while keeping costs reasonable. The basic display excels at business tasks without the colour accuracy premium most users don't need. The modest battery life aligns with real-world business usage patterns, while the comprehensive port selection eliminates dongles that would otherwise drain battery faster. The ExpertBook P1 isn't trying to be the best laptop for everyone. Instead, it excels at being exactly what many business users actually need: a dependable, capable, and reasonably priced tool that gets out of the way and lets you focus on your work. It proves that business laptops can prioritise function over form, substance over style, and long-term value over short-term impressions, even when that means accepting certain compromises. Asus ExpertBook P1 is the only laptop I probably won't manage to break
Table of Contents Table of Contents Is it performant? What makes the ExpertBook P1 stand out? Practicality, above anything Over the years, I have curated a rather non-envious track record with handling electronics around me. From shattering the screen on iPhones, breaking the hinge of a foldable phone, a torn laptop lid, flattening the edges of MacBooks, and forgetting items in transit, the history of my misadventures is pretty diverse. And expensive. But nothing hurts more than the damage incurred to a laptop, which you can't just hide behind a skin or case. I'd like to believe there are a few others like me, seeking a machine that can handle rough usage, or just happens to be sturdier than the rest. Asus certainly sees an opportunity in that bracket. Recommended Videos The company recently introduced a trio of laptops in the ExpertBook P series. To my surprise, the company focused less on the usual performance-centric presentations, and more on the practical side of things, such as durability. Is it performant? A few days after the launch, I got my hands on the ExpertBook P1. I was in for a pleasant surprise. It's a fairly competent laptop, but more than that, it can brush off mechanical stress with ease. And on top of that, it fortifies a few areas that most brands barely pay any special attention to. The configuration I tested came equipped with an Intel Core i7 (13620H) processor, ticking alongside 32GB of RAM and 512GB of M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. Thanks to extra slots, the RAM and storage are upgradable up to 64GB and 2TB, respectively. Over at the front is a 14-inch full-HD panel. Now, this is neither the latest Intel chip nor the fanciest display out there. It is sharp and offers wide viewing angles without any noticeable color crushing. I wish it were a glass-based panel, but I would take Asus' anti-glare approach any given day. The 10-core silicon is fairly powerful, though not the latest that Intel has to offer. When pitted against the 14-core Intel Core Ultra 5, it barely manages to achieve a higher single-core performance, but delivers a 30% lower multi-core performance. The aging Intel processor again serves a higher single-core tally at Cinebench 2024 compared to Qualcomm's top-end Snapdragon X Elite, but underwhelms with its multi-core chops, yet again. On the graphics front, the integrated Intel UHD graphics unit is roughly 18-20% behind the Arc graphics shipped with the second-gen Arrow Lake Ultra Series 2 processors. But numbers aside, this is still a pretty capable combination. If you aren't diving into any demanding creative software suite, the configuration will get past most productivity software with ease. My workload involved Chrome (across two screens and three windows), Slack, Trello, Teams, and a handful of web instances for tools like Asana and consistent wireless music playback. Running the laptop in Balanced profile, I easily got a full day of usage without any stutters or UI crashes. The battery, on the other hand, is promised to last three years without its electrochemical health falling below the 80% mark. It usually lasted me about 9-10 hours of continuous usage, but you can definitely extend it with a slightly modest brightness and performance tuning. What I like the most is the charging flexibility. Natively, the triple-cell 50Whr battery supports 65W fast charging, but it allows the full spectrum of 5V-24V power input. I was able to charge the laptop with a power bank and gave it some last-mile juice. I hope more brands hop on to this trend this year! What makes the ExpertBook P1 stand out? The Asus laptop is not out there to turn eyeballs with aesthetics. It's clean and industrial, with a familiar Asus design. What sets it apart is the sturdy engineering, despite the laptop weighing just around three pounds. This is a US MIL-STD 810H military-grade kit, covering nearly a dozen categories of tests. In addition to the usual temperature and altitude tests, the fortified build allows it to handle strong vibrations (500Hz) for a sustained period, mechanical shocks, and ingress protection against dust. Asus says the base can survive a drop from a height of over a meter on a concrete floor. The build is plastic, but the chassis has been reinforced using metallic parts. It's hard to discern that the ExpertBook P1 offers all that, but after using it as my daily workhorse, I am confident that it can brush off a few accidents. On the more practical side of things, both sides of the laptop can endure a smushing force worth around 110 pounds. This comes in handy for situations such as rough luggage handling, like the infamous airline baggage transport, packed under-carrriage in buses, or cramped slots in trains. The lid itself can sustain a load of up to 55 pounds without causing any damage to the screen. For business professionals on the move or students in college, such structural hardiness is nothing short of a reassuring boon. I tried to simulate the load test with some of my gym equipment, and the laptop came out unscathed. The base is certainly more sturdy, while the display lid is quite flexible. Asus says the laptop is tested to survive over 50,000 chassis twisting tests. Laptop lids and the linked hinge mechanism are often a weak link. I have broken two in the span of five years, so I know the hurt and learned the pricey lesson. On the ExpertBook P1, Asus has used 1.2mm stainless steel hinge inserts and thicker screws, which are touted to survive 66% higher pulling force than an average laptop. The hinge mechanism is indeed pretty durable. The flexing is visible, but there is no worrisome creaking to be heard. This is me holding the laptop at the hinge point, while exerting base pressure on the lid part: The components are also locked tightly in place, and even when the laptop is dropped, there are no chinks or chimes to be heard, save for a flat thud. Practicality, above anything As laptops started to get smaller and slimmer, the industry adopted a trend of culling the ports. Asus has dodged that trend on the Expertbook P1. There are a couple of USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports and an equal number of USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the laptop. You also get an HDMI 1.4 and an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port, alongside a 3.5mm combo jack and a Kensington Nano lock. While the port diversity is a welcome move, Asus didn't cram them on one side. Instead, they are spaced out across the left and right edges. I have often struggled with laptops that position the ports on one side. The MacBook Air is the best example. Anything thicker than an average USB-C cable blocks access to the other port. The only option left is to invest in a pricey port hub. Interestingly, the Asus ExpertBook P1's I/O ports are also special. They have been certified to last 5,000 insert-eject cycles, but more importantly, they offer a pretty secure lock-in for the cables and accessories. When I first saw the ExpertBook P5 dangling by a USB cable, I was surprised. Then I tested my P1 variant at home, and it didn't disappoint. Have a look: The resilient character also extends to the keyboard, which can handle liquid spills. Personally, that's a huge sigh of relief. My cat recently orchestrated a soda spill on a laptop, and it ended up frying the circuits on the motherboard. I could never get it repaired. The ExpertBook P1 integrates a FIDO-compliant fingerprint sensor within the trackpad area. It's a tad small, but it gets the job done. Asus also offers a whole bunch of security protection at both software and hardware levels. Among them is intrusion detection against unauthorized devices, and a discrete Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip built within. For BIOS attacks, downgrades are prevented to block exploits, and there's also an automatic recovery system in place if the BIOS is corrupted. For added privacy, there's a physical webcam shutter at the top. Overall, with the ExpertBook P1, Asus has created a rather compelling laptop that is geared at professionals as well as students alike. It undercuts the MacBook premium, while also offering a handful of practical perks that are hard to find in the laptop market.

Asus ExpertBook P1 review: Strong performance, good value, but a few rough edges
Asus has turned a new page with its ExpertBook P1 series which has become the first ever commercial laptop by the company to ditch the traditional B2B model and be sold directly to businesses via an exclusive Flipkart partnership. The Taiwanese tech giant is looking to cover more ground by appealing directly to the end customers with its value proposition. The ExpertBook P1 is the entry level laptop in this lineup which starts at a starting price of ₹39,990 but the version reviewed here retails for ₹72,990. Marketed as the perfect companion for businesses, does the ExpertBook P1 really live up to that promise? Well, I have been using the laptop as my daily driver for about two weeks and here's my two bits on its real-world performance. Unboxing and design: Opening the eco-friendly cardboard box of the ExpertBook P1, you're greeted with the laptop itself, a 65W adapter with a Type-C cable (more on this later), and a bunch of paperwork (check out the image below). Asus Expertbook P1 Asus Expertbook P1 design The version I received comes in Misty Grey with a matte finish that keeps fingerprints at bay. There's a small yet distinct Asus ExpertBook branding on the back, inside a metal plate, and a similar minimalist logo just below the display. The laptop is made entirely of plastic, though Asus claims it uses a reinforced metal chassis for increased durability. The design of the ExpertBook P1 screams business, with a minimalist, distraction-free look thanks to the colour choice. However, unlike other Asus laptops I've reviewed, this one is on the chunkier side and doesn't give off as much of a premium vibe — but I suppose that's the compromise for the price. For what it's worth, the 14-inch variant weighs just around 1.4kg, which is still on the lighter side and can easily be carried in a regular backpack. Display: The ExpertBook P1 features a 14-inch Full HD IPS display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and peak brightness of 300 nits. The display is guarded by thick bezels on all sides, with a chunky chin at the bottom — but that's kind of par for the course. In day-to-day usage, I had no trouble with the FHD panel, as it gets plenty bright for my needs, with adequate details and sharpness even when sitting next to a bright window (thanks to the anti-glare display). However, it was difficult to work on the laptop while travelling in cabs with bright sunshine, as the text became hard to read. The display also comes with just a 45% NTSC colour gamut, which means it may not be ideal for video editors or anyone needing highly colour-accurate displays for their work. The paired stereo speakers with Dirac branding deliver loud and clear audio that will suffice for most users, whether they're watching a YouTube video, playing music, or attending video calls. However, if you require more detail from the sound, a wired headphone is always recommended. Webcam and AI features: The ExpertBook P1 comes with a 720p webcam with a dedicated shield to hide the camera when not in use. I took a few video calls with this laptop to test the camera quality, and it turned out to be good enough for the price — but don't get your hopes up too high. Artificial Intelligence is reaching most laptops these days, and Asus isn't staying behind either. The ExpertBook P1 not only comes with the dedicated Microsoft Copilot key, but it also brings a new AI ExpertMeet app that can transcribe meetings, add watermarks to team meetings, and even generate minutes of the meeting on-device. Along with this, you get the usual suite of Asus AI features like gaze correction, motion tracking, and light optimisation. Asus ExpertBook P1 AI ExpertMeet app at work Asus ExpertBook P1 webcam quality Keyboard: The ExpertBook P1 features the same chiclet-style keyboard found on most Asus laptops, with good key travel. The typing experience on this laptop is top-notch, with the keys not requiring much pressure and the keyboard not producing much sound, even when typing fast. The touchpad below the keyboard is big enough to work with all the Windows shortcuts, while not being too big to take over the entire real estate. It's fluid and responsive to use, though there is a bit of coating on top that didn't sit quite right with my fingers (this could vary from person to person). Inside the touchpad is a squarish cutout for the fingerprint sensor, which comes with FIDO2 encryption and is fast and accurate enough for daily use. Connectivity and durability features: As you'd expect from an Asus laptop, the ExpertBook P1 comes with plenty of connectivity options. On the left side of the laptop, you get 2 USB 3.2 Type-C ports, an HDMI 1.1 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the right, you get a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, an Ethernet port (handy for office environments), and a nano Kensington lock slot. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. Asus says the ExpertBook P1 has passed 24 testing procedures under the US military-grade MIL-STD-810H standards. The laptop is said to withstand up to 50kg of squashing force on both the lid and bottom, while the keyboard also features 66cc of spill resistance. Asus has also included several features in the BIOS, such as self-healing BIOS recovery and intrusion detection, to help secure user data. Performance and battery: This version of the Expertbook P1 comes with the 13th Gen Intel core i7-13620H processor with 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Paired with the 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, the laptop works like a breeze with the fast app opening times and no noticeable lag during the review period. Even when opening 20 tabs (give or take) in a browser, the laptop didn't break a sweat and more importantly there was no noticeable fan noise thanks to the improved cooling mechanism by Asus. The processor used on the Expertbook P1, however is a 2 year old chip which means there isn't too much of an improvement in battery life that you see with the newer Intel and especially Snapdragon based chips. That being said, the 50Wh battery on the P1 lasts about 5 hours on a single charge and can be charged with the bundled 65W charger and even with mobile powerbanks or chargers during emergencies. One good thing about the bundled charger is that it comes with PD and PPS support which means that it can not only pump up the laptop but even give life to some of other USB-C powered devices like phones, especially the ones that don't come with a charger inside the box (you know who I am talking about).
