The 7 shows vanishing from your TV screens in just DAYS after major overhaul – binge them before they're gone
Find out which favourites are leaving – and why Netflix's new look matters BLACKOUT The 7 shows vanishing from your TV screens in just DAYS after major overhaul – binge them before they're gone Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SEVEN popular shows are vanishing from Netflix in a matter of days – so if they're on your list, now's the time to start watching. Viewers in the UK will lose access to the titles on Monday, July 1, as Netflix prepares for a major shake-up to both its content and interface. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 2 These removals are largely due to expiring licensing deals and content rotations that happen behind the scenes Credit: Getty The changes come as part of a larger overhaul that's already seen a wave of titles removed in recent months, and July looks set to be one of the busiest yet. Among the shows leaving are Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Loudermilk (Seasons 1 to 3), and the anime series Overlord (Seasons 1 to 4). Also departing is the children's favourite Rabbids Invasion (Season 4), Rubble & Crew (Season 1), and the classic magical girl reboot Sailor Moon Crystal (Seasons 1 to 3). Fans of nostalgic family dramas will also lose The Wonder Years (Seasons 1 to 2), which is being pulled as part of a broader Disney Television removal. These removals are largely due to expiring licensing deals and content rotations that happen behind the scenes. But there's more to it this time – with a brand new Netflix home screen redesign just around the corner. The streaming giant is launching its first major redesign for TVs in 12 years. Dubbed 'Eclipse' inside the company, the new interface promises a sleeker, simpler experience that encourages viewers to press play faster and discover content more easily. The layout will shift the main navigation bar to the top of the screen and reduce the number of visible titles at once, focusing instead on bigger images, more dynamic previews and video clips that auto-play after just a few seconds. 'The real goal of this is, how do we make it easier, how do we make it simpler, faster for you to make a great decision?' said Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix. One of the most notable features is 'responsive recommendations.' These will tailor suggestions almost instantly, based on what users are actively searching for. So if a viewer looks up thrillers or family films, their home screen will begin updating in real time to show more titles in that category – a big improvement from the previous system, which could take up to a day to refresh. Eunice Kim, the company's chief product officer, said the redesign is meant to serve both types of viewers: those who know exactly what they want, and those who don't. 'The way that the old home page is built, you kind of see box art, box art, box art, box art,' she said. 'It's kind of suboptimal, right?' The new layout aims to slow viewers down just enough to take notice of what's on offer, with titles now showing labels like 'highly rewatched,' '13 weeks in Top 10,' or 'Oscar nominee.' The changes also aim to make live content more prominent – like football games or special events – by showing live animation and movement directly on the home screen. July will also see the departure of several films, including The Equalizer 3 starring Denzel Washington, which is also leaving on July 1. Later in the month, the comedy Dumb Money will exit the platform as well. Overall, at least nine Netflix Originals are scheduled to depart in July, with more likely to follow throughout the year – joining the 250+ titles already gone. Netflix's redesign could have ripple effects across the industry. For years, rival streamers like Disney+, Prime Video, and Max have taken cues from Netflix's interface. With Netflix now breaking from the row-upon-row layout, others may soon follow suit.

Is ‘9-1-1' On Tonight? Here's When ‘9-1-1' Returns To ABC With New Episodes In 2025
The moment 9-1-1 fans have been anxiously awaiting since the series went on hiatus in November 2024 has almost arrived. It's been three months since Season 8, Episode 8, 'Wannabees' premiered on ABC and showrunner/co-creator Tim Minear teased trouble ahead, saying that after bringing the 118 back together in the first half of the season, he planned to 'blow it all the hell apart' in the second half. But the hit ABC procedural is set to return shortly with an action-packed two-night return. Based previews, we know that 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 9 will have Athena (Angela Bassett) on the hunt for a serial killer who almost certainly kidnaps a pregnant Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Teased as one of 9-1-1's 'most intense episodes yet,' the show's 2025 return will feature a high-stakes investigation and a whole lot of drama. So you don't want to miss a moment. So is 9-1-1 on tonight, February 20? When does 9-1-1 return with new episodes? And what else does Minear have to tease about the second half of Season 8? Here's what to know. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (again!), but there's no new episode of 9-1-1 airing tonight, February 20, on ABC. Instead, a new episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is premiering on the network at 8:00 p.m. ET. As noted, 9-1-1's midseason finale aired back on November 21, kicking off a months-long hiatus. Rest assured, the wait for new episodes is almost over, as the series is set to return with new episodes on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Mark your calendars! Set your phone alarms! Plan your watch parties, people! When the series returns, 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 9 will premiere on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. If you haven't read Tim Minear's full midseason finale interview with Decider, now's the perfect time! In terms of teases for the remainder of the season, here's what the showrunner had to say about the second half of Season 8. When we left Eddie (Ryan Guzman) in Episode 808, he was considering a move to Texas to be closer to his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh). Minear confirmed Eddie's life will still be 'in flux' when the show returns. While fans may have a hard time imagining one of 9-1-1's core character relocating long-term, Minear assured Decider that 'Eddie is dead serious about doing whatever he has to do to repair that relationship, so if that means moving to Texas, maybe that's what he has to do.' (A BTS TikTok essentially confirmed that the move is happening, so get your tissues ready when 9-1-1 returns.) In an interview with Forbes, Guzman said, 'There are going to be some big changes in Eddie's life. Big, big changes in Eddie's life. Much like myself, Eddie is always thinking about his children and what he will do for his child. There's nothing he won't do, but that will incur some massive changes. In the next couple episodes when we come back, you're going to understand what that means.' Minear also told Decider that Eddie's bestie Buck (Oliver Stark) 'is going to be spinning like a top by the time we come back. [He's] not wanting to be a bad friend, and not wanting to be selfish. There's just no way he's not going to spiral about this.' That said, the showrunner explained Buck will eventually find some sort of distraction. 'He's going to have to find something to latch onto to keep from completely spinning out of control. And he will find that. He will find that when we come back,' Minear said. 'And we'll see about that and how long that lasts — these relationships don't tend to last all that long.' As for other personal storylines, Minear said, 'The Bobby and Athena building a new house story, we'll hit that pretty hard in Episode 11… We'll also get to see Buck dealing with his abandonment issues. And then Episode 10 is just going to be thrilling. It's going to be a thriller. And by the end of Episode 10, everybody's life is changed.' The teaser for two-part return event opens with Josh (Bryan Safi) at the dispatch center reporting 'a possible hostage situation' and Maddie saying, 'I got his location.' When Athena (Angela Bassett) arrives on the scene, however, she reports, 'There's nobody here.' But that's only the beginning… 'Something's not right,' Athena tells Bobby (Peter Krause) in another clip. 'Almost nothing's right about it,' he replies. After zip ties, rope, and blood are found at a crime scene, we hear Athena say, 'He's a damn serial killer. And it looks like he took Maddie with him.' *GASP!* The teaser also shows Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Buck (Oliver Stark) looking distressed, Bobby comforting a concerned Chimney (Kenneth Choi), and Maddie passing out after a mysterious figure holds a rag over her face. During a recent interview on I've Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario, Hewitt described Maddie's upcoming Season 8 arc as, 'The craziest thing I've ever done on 9-1-1. The audience is not ready. I was not ready.' Hewitt even said she lost her voice after filming and had no idea the 'wild' and 'fun' storyline was coming. So buckle up! If you want to catch up on 9-1-1 ahead of its 2025 return, you'll need to be a Hulu subscriber to watch existing episodes and new episodes of 9-1-1 Season 8 the day after they air on ABC. The good news is you'll have access to the episode with any version of the streaming service. The streamer's least expensive ad-supported plan costs $7.99 a month (or $79.99 a year), while its ad-free option is $17.99 a month. If you choose to add Live TV to your plan you can select an ad-supported Hulu + Live TV now with Disney+ and ESPN+ bundle for $76.99 a month or go ad-free for $89.99 a month. Want to watch 9-1-1 live when it returns? If you have a cable subscription that includes ABC, you can watch 9-1-1 live by setting your TV to the proper channel at 8:00 p.m. ET. You can also use your cable username and password to watch live ABC episodes live on or with the ABC app. And if your cable package includes a DVR, you can always record live episodes for later viewing. No cable? No worries! There are several other live viewing options, such as live TV skinny bundles, which give you access to networks without cable. YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and fuboTV, all come with ABC. And if you don't have cable or a live TV skinny bundle, you can always stream episodes of 9-1-1 the following day on Hulu.

The 'Michelle Obama' house in Fayetteville: Cameras long gone but mission remains
For many people, the two-story gray-frame house with red trim and impressive pillars on Langdon Street remains the 'Michelle Obama house.' It is easy to see why. I was there on the sweltering July day in 2011 when then-first lady Obama came for the big reveal on the Jubilee House — a house that folks in the Fayetteville community had helped build and that was featured that year on the hit show, 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.' Opinion Pitts: From J. Cole to Michelle Obama, a tour of Fayetteville's unique connections Despite the heat, the atmosphere was festive and hundreds came out — many of them volunteers who had donned the white hard hats and helped build the 7,000-square foot house just down the road from Fayetteville State University. It was an unforgettable moment in the 'Ville. The house would also serve an important purpose: It was to be a transitional space for homeless women veterans and their children. 'Words cannot describe what I'm seeing right now,' one resident said back then. 'I can't wait to move on, and I hope the next lady who lives in that room will enjoy it just the same.' More: PHOTOS: Reveille Retreat A lot has happened in the nearly 13 years since then. A company named Endeavors took over operations in 2017 after complaints of mismanagement under previous ownership led to investigations by the North Carolina Secretary of State's Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division and the state Attorney General. Endeavors, formerly Family Endeavors, rechristened the space the Reveille Retreat. The nonprofit based in San Antonio, Texas, works with people in crisis and had already been serving 400 veterans every year in Cumberland County, according to its own story about the house at the Endeavors website. Opinion Pitts: Fayetteville day center for homeless opens. Two stories show promise and challenges 'Endeavors already had an idea of what they wanted the Reveille Retreat to look like,' the website states. 'They envisioned modeling it after our Fairweather Lodge in San Antonio, Texas, with permanent supportive housing as well as case management and life skills training. 'With this plan in mind, we went to work fixing water damage, structural issues, and other problem areas that needed to be addressed to bring the house up to safety standards.' Ramps, wider doorways, new stoves and refrigerators were among renovations as the retreat underwent $400,000 in renovations and reopened in three years, according to the account. On Friday, I reached out to Endeavors in San Antonio for more information. Kimberly Harle Solis, the chief marketing and communications officer for Endeavors in San Antonio, said on Monday that someone would get back to me with more information, but I did not hear from anyone. The services at the Reveille Retreat are geared toward veteran women who struggle with chronic illness or disabilities or mental health challenges who are homeless. The home gives them 'a safe place to regroup and get back on their feet,' according to the Endeavors site. They can take parenting classes and job training while their children can receive homework assistance. Endeavors made a go at offering similar services for men at the Enfield House, but it closed in 2021 after three years. The nonprofit, according to its website, does extend similar programs countywide, as at Reveille, through the Bonanza Project, which seeks to get people into homes while building their independence; reducing symptoms; lessening periods of homelessness; and decreasing the need for acute psychiatric care. In this way, the "Michelle Obama" house maintains its role in a crucial way that continues long after the cameras left Langdon Street. Opinion Editor Myron B.
