Is ‘9-1-1' On Tonight? Here's When ‘9-1-1' Returns To ABC With New Episodes In 2025

Yahoo20-02-2025

The moment 9-1-1 fans have been anxiously awaiting since the series went on hiatus in November 2024 has almost arrived.
It's been three months since Season 8, Episode 8, 'Wannabees' premiered on ABC and showrunner/co-creator Tim Minear teased trouble ahead, saying that after bringing the 118 back together in the first half of the season, he planned to 'blow it all the hell apart' in the second half. But the hit ABC procedural is set to return shortly with an action-packed two-night return.
Based previews, we know that 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 9 will have Athena (Angela Bassett) on the hunt for a serial killer who almost certainly kidnaps a pregnant Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Teased as one of 9-1-1's 'most intense episodes yet,' the show's 2025 return will feature a high-stakes investigation and a whole lot of drama. So you don't want to miss a moment.
So is 9-1-1 on tonight, February 20? When does 9-1-1 return with new episodes? And what else does Minear have to tease about the second half of Season 8? Here's what to know.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (again!), but there's no new episode of 9-1-1 airing tonight, February 20, on ABC. Instead, a new episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is premiering on the network at 8:00 p.m. ET.
As noted, 9-1-1's midseason finale aired back on November 21, kicking off a months-long hiatus. Rest assured, the wait for new episodes is almost over, as the series is set to return with new episodes on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Mark your calendars! Set your phone alarms! Plan your watch parties, people! When the series returns, 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 9 will premiere on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
If you haven't read Tim Minear's full midseason finale interview with Decider, now's the perfect time! In terms of teases for the remainder of the season, here's what the showrunner had to say about the second half of Season 8.
When we left Eddie (Ryan Guzman) in Episode 808, he was considering a move to Texas to be closer to his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh). Minear confirmed Eddie's life will still be 'in flux' when the show returns. While fans may have a hard time imagining one of 9-1-1's core character relocating long-term, Minear assured Decider that 'Eddie is dead serious about doing whatever he has to do to repair that relationship, so if that means moving to Texas, maybe that's what he has to do.' (A BTS TikTok essentially confirmed that the move is happening, so get your tissues ready when 9-1-1 returns.)
In an interview with Forbes, Guzman said, 'There are going to be some big changes in Eddie's life. Big, big changes in Eddie's life. Much like myself, Eddie is always thinking about his children and what he will do for his child. There's nothing he won't do, but that will incur some massive changes. In the next couple episodes when we come back, you're going to understand what that means.'
Minear also told Decider that Eddie's bestie Buck (Oliver Stark) 'is going to be spinning like a top by the time we come back. [He's] not wanting to be a bad friend, and not wanting to be selfish. There's just no way he's not going to spiral about this.' That said, the showrunner explained Buck will eventually find some sort of distraction. 'He's going to have to find something to latch onto to keep from completely spinning out of control. And he will find that. He will find that when we come back,' Minear said. 'And we'll see about that and how long that lasts — these relationships don't tend to last all that long.'
As for other personal storylines, Minear said, 'The Bobby and Athena building a new house story, we'll hit that pretty hard in Episode 11… We'll also get to see Buck dealing with his abandonment issues. And then Episode 10 is just going to be thrilling. It's going to be a thriller. And by the end of Episode 10, everybody's life is changed.'
The teaser for two-part return event opens with Josh (Bryan Safi) at the dispatch center reporting 'a possible hostage situation' and Maddie saying, 'I got his location.' When Athena (Angela Bassett) arrives on the scene, however, she reports, 'There's nobody here.' But that's only the beginning…
'Something's not right,' Athena tells Bobby (Peter Krause) in another clip. 'Almost nothing's right about it,' he replies. After zip ties, rope, and blood are found at a crime scene, we hear Athena say, 'He's a damn serial killer. And it looks like he took Maddie with him.' *GASP!*
The teaser also shows Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Buck (Oliver Stark) looking distressed, Bobby comforting a concerned Chimney (Kenneth Choi), and Maddie passing out after a mysterious figure holds a rag over her face.
During a recent interview on I've Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario, Hewitt described Maddie's upcoming Season 8 arc as, 'The craziest thing I've ever done on 9-1-1. The audience is not ready. I was not ready.' Hewitt even said she lost her voice after filming and had no idea the 'wild' and 'fun' storyline was coming. So buckle up!

Jason Aldean and Travis Tritt bring 'It's A Great Day To Be Alive' to CMA Fest 2025 ABC special

For the past year, Georgia-native country hitmaker Jason Aldean has chased cementing his status as a 30-time chart-topping performer. He arrived at CMA Fest to celebrate his latest hit "Whiskey Drink," achieving that success. As well, he metaphorically tipped his ever-present cowboy hat to one of his childhood musical heroes, the Grand Ole Opry member and "Class of '89" favorite Travis Tritt. The two country singers performed a rendition of "It's A Great Day To Be Alive" at CMA Fest 2025 in Nashville on June 5, the festival's opening night. The performance will be part of the ABC CMA Fest TV special on June 26. 'This next song's not one of mine, but it's by one of my musical heroes growing up in Georgia,' Aldean said before the performance. 'This guy was from Georgia, and 25 years ago, he had a hit song… so we're going to play this one for you.' CMA Fest 2025 on ABC: How to watch, stream special hosted by Ashley McBryde and Cody Johnson Aldean began singing Tritt's 2000 hit, belting out: "I got rice cooking in the microwave / Got a three day beard I don't plan to shave / And it's a goofy thing but I just gotta say, hey / I'ma doing alright." Mid-way through the song, Aldean invited Tritt to join him onstage. As the duo strummed guitars, they sang the tune's feel-good chorus alongside lively fiddle. "And it's a great day to be alive / I know the sun's still shining / When I close my eyes." The song originally appeared on Darrell Scott's record "Aloha from Nashville" in 1997, which Scott wrote after recovering from a back injury. When Scott was finally able to care for himself again after being bedridden for a week, the tune of gratitude poured out of him. Tritt released his version of the track on his album "Down the Road I Go," with the single reaching number two on Billboard's Hot Country Chart. Audrey Gibbs is a music journalist at The Tennessean. ABC's ‘The Golden Bachelor' Star Mel Owens Says He Will Cut Women Over 60: 'This Is Not ‘The Silver Bachelor''

Mel Owens signed up to star on the second season of ABC's The Golden Bachelor and shocked with his comments about the women he doesn't want on the show. The 66-year-old former Los Angeles Rams NFL star, who is now a lawyer, made an appearance on a podcast where he drew a hard line on the age of the women he could consider dating. More from Deadline 'The Golden Bachelor' Sets Jessica Castro As Showrunner 'The Bachelor' Showrunners Claire Freeland & Bennett Graebner Exiting Dating Franchise Following 'Toxic' Workplace Allegations 2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming Owens recently said on the MGoBlue Podcasts with Jon Jansen that casting producers asked for his preferences, to which he said, '45 to 60, just being honest.' After he was selected to lead the new season of The Golden Bachelor, Owens had lunch with a producer and told them, 'If they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them,' adding, 'This is not The Silver Bachelor, this is The Golden Bachelor.' According to Owens, the producer then said, 'But they're going to be hot. Don't worry about it, don't worry about it.' 'So he goes, 'You can't use the word cut,' I go, 'Well, that's an NFL term,'' Owens added. In the conversation with the producer, Owens said he had no say in who was cast on the show, but he specified that the women had 'to be git, because I'm staying in shape and work out and stuff. And I told them [to] try and stay away from artificial hips and the wigs.' Owens follows 72-year-old Gerry Turner, who was the first leading man in the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor. Turner found love with Theresa Nast, whom he married in January 2024. However, the marriage didn't last long, as three months after exchanging their vows, they announced they were divorcing following his cancer diagnosis. ‘Golden Bachelor' Mel Owens Has Some Pretty Strict Dating Parameters: No One With ‘Artificial Hips'

Someone might need to remind the upcoming Golden Bachelor, Mel Owens, that he's no spring chicken. The upcoming lead of the second season of the Bachelor franchise spinoff, The Golden Bachelor, made an appearance on the 'MGoBlue' podcast, where he discussed his dating preferences — and boy, oh boy, does he need a little media training. More from Rolling Stone Frank Reynolds Is the Next 'Golden Bachelor' in 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' Season 17 Trailer How to Watch 'The Bachelor' Finale Online Without Cable The New Bachelor Says He's 'Open to Therapy' Since Filming the Reality Show Owens, who is 66, started off by explaining that dating someone younger is an absolute must. 'They ask me, 'What's your preference?' So I just said [ages] 45 to 60, just being honest,' he said. 'And then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, 'You know, if they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them.'' Owens said ABC producers tried to gently explain to him that he can't eliminate women because of their age. ''Mel, you can't. This is not The Silver Bachelor. This is The Golden Bachelor,'' he recalled a producer telling him. 'He goes, 'But they're going to be hot. Don't worry about it.'' Clearly not quite getting the message, the former football player went on to describe his ideal partner in a way that screamed, 'I don't want an old lady' without actually saying 'I don't want an old lady.' As per the Bachelor franchise policy, Owens did not participate in casting for his season. 'They asked me, 'What is my profile?' Well, [the women] got to be fit, because I'm staying in shape and work out and stuff. And I told them, 'Try to stay away from the artificial hips and the wigs, you know, that kind of stuff, right?'' (To be fair, it's fine to want a partner who lives a similar lifestyle as you do, but maybe don't say it in a way that makes you sound incredibly shallow.) In what should have been his original — and only — answer, Owens said he's looking for someone who is a 'lifetime learner' and loves to 'work out, stay fit, eat, have fun, be energetic, and live life.' Owens was named the next Golden Bachelor in April. It is unclear if casting for his season has been completed, but I'm sure after this interview, the applications will come rushing in! Thank god he wasn't cast on Love Is Blind.
