CF Montreal profits from Philadelphia Union transfer deal for forward Milan Iloski

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Union acquired striker Milan Iloski from Denmark's FC Nordsjælland on Tuesday in a deal that netted CF Montreal up to US$250,000 (all figures in U.S. dollars) in general allocation money. Montreal was involved because it held the first overall spot in the MLS waiver order, allowing the Union to sign Iloski. Philadelphia sent the Canadian side its 21st spot in the waiver order. Montreal acquired $100,000 in 2025 general allocation money and up to $150,000 in conditional GAM. Philadelphia, which hosts Toronto FC in league play Saturday, has signed Iloski through 2027 with an option for 2028. Iloski, 26, played 14 games (including three starts) on loan with San Diego FC this season before returning to FC Nordsjælland in mid-July. 'Milan is a dynamic, instinctive goal scorer who thrives in attacking transition,' Philadelphia sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a statement. 'His ability to convert goal chances is extraordinary and he has a willingness to defend. We look forward to integrating him into the team quickly.' Iloski scored 10 goals and added one assist for San Diego, making MLS history by scoring four goals in a 12-minute span against the Vancouver Whitecaps to register the fastest four-goal performance in league history. Before joining San Diego, Iloski scored 43 goals and added 11 assists in 70 matches over two seasons for Orange County SC in the USL Championship. In 2022, he won the league's Golden Boot with 22 goals in 31 games. Thursdays Keep up to date on sports with Mike McIntyre's weekly newsletter. A native of Escondido, Calif., Iloski played three seasons at UCLA. He played for Golden State Force and Ogden City SC before signing with Real Salt Lake as a homegrown player in 2020. In other Montreal news, defender Fernando Álvarez has been suspended two games for 'showing disrespect' to the match officials in a 2-1 Leagues Cup loss to Mexico's Toluca on Friday. Alvarez, shown a red card after the final whistle, will miss Tuesday's Leagues Cup game against Mexico's Puebla. If Montreal does not advance in the tournament, Alvarez will serve the second game of his suspension in the next edition of the Leagues Cup. — This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 5, 2025

Diomande feeling at home after early Rangers 'shock'

Mohamed Diomande feels he has developed the mental strength required to be a success at Rangers after initially finding the demands at Ibrox "a shock".The Ivorian midfielder arrived in Glasgow in 2024 on an initial loan deal from Danish side FC Nordsjælland before making the move he believes he is now ready to show the best of himself as he gears up to take on Panathinaikos in the second leg of the second round of Champions League qualifying in Athens on Wednesday."I'm learning and progressing as a player every day," Diomande told BBC Scotland."So I'm happy that I'm playing at this level because it's also something I have wanted since I was young, to experience all of this, to play in a bigger club and to play in front of 50,000 fans."I feel like there's still more for me that I need to show. Maybe the people have not seen it. Maybe some people have, but I think there's still more I can give."Diomande says he is relishing working under Russell Martin and explained that the new head coach wants to make only subtle changes to his game."I would say he wants me to not do much different, but to be patient and to stay in the position, to trust that my team-mates are going to find me in the right position, then I can do the damage, I can maybe give the final pass," he said."I'm just doing what he has asked me to do. It would be amazing [to progress] because we want to do everything we can to get in the Champions League, to be part of it."

Benjamin Nygren in knowing Celtic namedrop as he tells fans exactly what he hopes to bring to Parkhead

The winger becomes the Hoops' latest summer recruit as he spoke for the first time since making the move to the champions Benjamin Nygren namedropped the King of Kings as he showed he knows his Celtic history. Brendan Rodgers finally landed his man from Danish side, FC Nordsjælland on a five-year deal as he continues his summer spree. ‌ The 23-year-old is the latest Swede to follow in a long line of predecessors and the attacker was quick to show the Hoops faithful of his knowledge of those who had played for the club before him. ‌ Speaking to Celtic TV on his move, he said: "I feel amazing. It is so nice to be here. I have been looking forward to this so much and can't wait to celebrate a lot of victories. "I know of course Henrik Larsson, the King of Kings, a big legend here. I play with his son Jordan now. I also know Carl Starfelt and Gustaf Lagerbielke. Freddie Ljungberg was here for a while and Mikael Lustig." Nygren burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old and despite his young years, he comes with a wealth of top team experience. He's played at the likes of IFK Goteborg, Genk and Heerenveen before his latest spell in Denmark. He is also a full international for Sweden and while he may be one of the younger men in his new dressing room, he wants to bring his leadership skills having been skipper at his old club in his final six months in Denmark. He continued: "I am a player that wants to create a lot of chances and go towards goal. "I am a link between the defence and offence and I can run a lot. ‌ "I have a high work rate both offensively and defensively. That is what I am best at. "I can score goals, create chances from a bit behind. I come as a second wave and I am a player who wants to go towards goal and if we are leading 1-0, I want us to be 2, 3 and 4-0 and so on. "I am an offensive minded player but I also try to do my best in all parts of the game. ‌ "Something I didn't mention I had my break through when I was very young so even though I am 23-years old I have over 200/250 games or something so I have a lot of experience. "Also, I had the band [captaincy] in Nordsjælland for the last half year. It is something I want to bring." Celtic confirm signing of Benjamin Nygren on five-year deal

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Swedish winger Benjamin Nygren on a five-year deal. The 23-year-old winger who plays for Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjælland emerged as one of the club's top targets to strengthen their squad for next season's title defence and European campaign. Nygren, who can play on the left or right wing, scored 16 goals in 32 appearances last season and broke into the Sweden national team. He made his international debut in March against Luxembourg, and Nygren went on to start Sweden's next three friendlies, scoring against Hungary and Northern Ireland. Nygren joins returning defender Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan as recruits ahead of the new season, subject to international clearance. Brendan Rodgers told the club's website: 'We're delighted to have brought Benjamin to Celtic, and we're all looking forward to working with him. He's an exciting, quality player who will add to our attacking options in the squad. 'He's a young player who's already gained plenty of experience at club level, while his impressive performances last season also saw him gain his first caps for Sweden. 'Joining Celtic is the next step up in his career, and having spoken to him, he's delighted to be here and is ready to take on the exciting challenges ahead at home and in Europe. 'He's a player that I'm sure our supporters will enjoy watching, and it's great to have him as part of our squad.' Speaking to Celtic TV, Nygren said: 'I feel amazing to have signed for Celtic, it's so nice to be here. I've been looking forward to this so much. 'I'm a player who wants to create a lot of chances and go towards goal. I'm a link between the defence and the offence, and I can run a lot. 'I'm an offensive-minded player, but I also work hard and try to do my best in all parts of the game. 'I'm a very competitive person, and this is something that I love about Celtic. It's a huge club and I love that. And, also, the winning mentality. I want to be with similar-minded people who also love to win. 'I had my breakthrough when I was very young, so even though I'm 23 years old, I have played over 200 games. I have a lot of experience and that's what I want to bring.'
