With headliners Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese missing Fever vs. Sky clash, Kelsey Mitchell steals the show
CHICAGO – The Indiana Fever recorded a third dominating win over the Chicago Sky, 93-78, to win the season series. Indiana is now 3-0 this season against Chicago, and the two teams will play two more times this season. Kelsey Mitchell had a season-high 35 points, while rookie Makayla Timpson had a career-high 14 points. Neither Caitlin Clark, nor Angel Reese played Sunday, both sitting out with injury. The Fever are 14-12 and remain sixth in the WNBA standings. Fever vs Sky stats: Check out the box score from Indiana's win Here are two observations: Veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell was the one to keep the Fever on track on Sunday afternoon. She had 13 points in the first quarter, matching the Sky's first-quarter total, and assisted on two other shots. She powered through contact in the second quarter, even when she had a small hiccup. After making a contact through a layup and falling on her back, she was slow to get up, holding her groin area. She subbed out 10 seconds later, doing some stretches on the sideline and staying on the bench for the final two minutes of the first half. She was the first one back out to warm up after halftime and started the second half with no issues. And she was right back to her old self — she scored the first 10 points of the third quarter for the Fever and had 15 total in those 10 minutes, helping Indiana out of a third-quarter slump and keeping the Fever firmly ahead. Mitchell finished with a season-high 35 points, along with two rebounds and six assists. She did look in pain at times, holding at that groin area throughout the second half, but played through it. With just one practice under her belt, new Fever signee Chloe Bibby is already making an impact. The Fever signed Bibby, who spent some time with the Valkyries this season, to a seven-day contract on Friday. The signing came after she finished playing in the Asia Cup in China with the Australian National Team. Bibby had just one official day of practice with Indiana before traveling to Chicago for her first game in a Fever uniform, and they utilized her quickly. She came in for the first time in the first quarter and nearly immediately drained a 3-pointer, then did it again over 6-7 Kamilla Cardoso. Coming out of the first half, she had eight points in eight minutes. Bibby played ahead of Damiris Dantas and Brianna Turner in the frontcourt, as Dantas has seen her spot in the rotation dwindle since returning from FIBA Americup in early July. Bibby is a fast, stretch forward, and she fits how the Fever hope to play — with or without star Caitlin Clark available.

She has started all 14 games that she has appeared in this season, as well as 43 of her 46 career WNBA games. However, in her first matchup back after returning from leave, first-year Sky head coach Tyler Marsh opted to bring Cardoso off the bench and will instead start veteran center Elizabeth Williams. She started in Cardoso's place for three of the four games that she missed, and Wednesday will mark Williams' fourth consecutive start. Cardoso has seen an increase in her scoring average from last season, as she is now contributing 12.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
