Create Account Re 'Ford walks it back' (Brian Lilley, July 29): I am a Doug Ford supporter but has he not been watching developments all over Ireland, Britain and Europe where thousands of people are protesting, demanding that these so-called illegals and refugees be deported from their countries. These illegals are arriving every week. They are being housed in hotels, etc. at enormous cost to taxpayers and supplied with cash, phones, etc. The people have had enough. The more benefits you give them, the more will come. If Ford were to give them work permits, the word will spread and we will be overrun, which is what has happened in Europe. Then we will have the street protests going on. Stop this madness. Wilf Townley (Fortunately someone around Ford explained what a terrible idea this was and he backed down) This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. NO STATEHOOD RECOGNITION The Canada recognizing statehood for a faux 'Palestine' is not my Canada. Mark Carney jumping on the bandwagon of an ill-conceived and incoherent plan is not my PM. First and foremost 'Palestine' is not actually a state with defined boundaries, let alone democratic or free. It was a media concoction made-up by Yasser Arafat for political purposes to pressure Western countries. Secondly, a' two-state solution' will never work. It's an impossibility so long as the genocidal 'Neighbours' want all Jews dead and the state of Israel annihilated. Thirdly, the land was never theirs in the first place, either historically, or Biblically. Statehood for a Palestinian terror state would be a HUGE and TERRIBLE mistake. Israel has a right to exist — as do we all — and rewarding Hamas for its vile and maniacal dreams is simply WRONG. Mark Carney needs to boldly lead, and not to thoughtlessly follow. Neil Staff Whitby (As it stands now, Carney isn't leading. Canada has lost its moral compass under the Liberals and this is just yet another example) Columnists World Toronto Maple Leafs Canada Opinion

Punjab MBBS students call off strike after govt agrees to address stipends & fee demands

More than 2,000 students in Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala had been protesting since 7 May and had announced a strike Monday, claiming that the issue of stagnant stipends and repeated fee hikes had not been addressed. Resident doctors were also participating in solidarity and had raised their own demands for a stipend hike. The state government has yet to issue a statement confirming the development. New Delhi: MBBS students and interns from various government medical colleges (GMCs) in three major cities in Punjab said they had called off a more than 50-day protest after the state government agreed to revise their stipends and review the fees. This came hours after the students announced a strike. After a meeting between the Forum of Resident Doctors (FORD), Punjab, and state Health Minister Balbir Singh and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, which lasted over 5 hours, Dr. Milan, who was present at the meeting, said the government had agreed to address the students' concerns. Under the revised stipend structure, junior doctors will receive Rs 76,000 in their first year, Rs 77,000 in their second year, and Rs 78,000 in their third year. Senior doctors, similarly, will receive Rs 92,000, Rs 93,000 and Rs 94,000 over their three years, a statement from FORD issued late Monday said. The pay for interns was raised to Rs 22,000. These salaries would be reviewed yearly. A MBBS Fees and Bond committee will review the fee hikes, the statement further said. A notification in this regard is expected to be issued in two weeks. In another statement, the FORD said, 'After detailed discussions, the Government of Punjab has agreed to constitute a committee to review and recommend reforms to make medical education fees more affordable. Additionally, the government has committed to a stipend hike for both MBBS and MD students, fulfilling a longstanding demand of resident doctors across the state.' 'In light of these significant developments, FORD Punjab has decided to call off the ongoing strike, and all OPD and hospital services will resume as normal from tomorrow, 1st July 2025.' ThePrint reached out to the state health minister and Kumar Rahul, Punjab's principal secretary of health & family welfare, for comment through messages. This report will be updated if and when they respond. ThePrint had earlier reported that discontent had been brewing since 2020, when the fee for the 5.5-year MBBS course (including one year compulsory internship) was hiked by a steep 77 percent in government colleges—from Rs 4.4 lakh to Rs 7.8 lakh. Since then, the state has continued to increase the fee by 5 percent annually. Protesting interns argued that this placed an unsustainable financial burden on students, particularly those who were from economically weaker backgrounds. This was further compounded by the stagnant monthly stipend of Rs 15,000. Punjab's stipend amount for interns is the lowest among neighbouring states: Haryana pays Rs 24,300 monthly, Himachal Pradesh Rs 20,000, Chandigarh Rs 30,070 and Delhi Rs 30,000. Earlier, Kumar Rahul had acknowledged the issue, telling ThePrint on WhatsApp: 'There has been a 5 percent increase in fees every year since 2020. The protest is more about the demand for an increased stipend, which has been taken up with the Finance Department.' On Monday, outpatient department (OPD) and operation theatre services were hit at GMCs in Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala after the strike was announced. A letter submitted by the Medical Students' Association to the director principal of GMC Amritsar, seen by ThePrint, said, 'Despite repeated representations and discussions, no concrete steps have been taken by the authorities to address these pressing issues. The stipend being paid is not in line with inflation, and the burden of bond-related fees has worsened the situation.' 'In view of the continued neglect of our demands, we have no option but to proceed with a strike.' Similar letters were also submitted to authorities at GMCs in Faridkot and Patiala. Speaking to ThePrint about the strike earlier, the president of the Medical Students' Association at GMC Amritsar and MBBS intern, Dr. Archit Bawa, said, 'It's been over 50 days now. Doctors of Punjab have been protesting on the roads, but our demands remain unaddressed. We didn't want to stop OPD services, but the government left us with no choice. This is our only resort.' UK Ford cars WILL be affected by huge recall affecting 200,000 EVs – after fears fault will leave passengers ‘trapped'

Find out whether you're car is affected by the recall FORD FEAR UK Ford cars WILL be affected by huge recall affecting 200,000 EVs – after fears fault will leave passengers 'trapped' A MAJOR recall issued by Ford over concerns for passenger safety will also affect its UK models. The recall was issued earlier this week in the US over a major safety defect that could leave passengers trapped in their cars. Advertisement 3 A safety recall issued by Ford will also affect British drivers Credit: PA 3 The fault could leave passengers trapped as the electronic door handles malfunction Credit: PA 3 Up to 200,000 Mustang Mach-E cars have been recalled in the US Credit: AP The Express has reported that "some" Mustang Mach-E electric cars in the UK will be affected by the same issues. It is unclear how many UK cars will be affected, as Ford will be in touch with relevant customers shortly. The issue is believed to be a software problem that causes the electronic door latch to remain closed. This occurs when the car's battery is low, leaving passengers at risk of being trapped in their car. Advertisement Drivers with Ford Mustang Mach-E 2021-2025 models should look out for the following warning displays which could indicate a fault. The SYNC infotainment screen may display a "system off to save power" warning, or go blank when the power is in the "off" position The inside release handle of the front door needs to be pulled further than normal to unlatch the door when exiting the vehicle. It could pose a health risk to customers in an emergency situation, although no accidents or injuries have been reported so far. However, several drivers have reported being locked out of their vehicles. The recall is likely to be easily resolved through a free update for customers. Advertisement In the meantime, sales of the Mustang Mach-E have been halted at Ford dealerships until the software is updated. Ford urgently recalls 273,000 cars over dangerous brake issue that could 'cause total failure' – two models are affected Ford wrote to the National Highways Traffic Safety Administration in the US to warn of the imminent recall on June 23. It affects up to 197,432 of the Mustang Mach-E cars in the US. An NHTSA report stated: "Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2025 Mustang Mach E vehicles. Advertisement "In the event of low battery charge, the electronic door latches may remain locked once the driver or front passenger exits and shuts the door, possible trapping someone who is unable to use the inside door release handles, such as a child in the backseat." They added: "Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module C (SOBDMC) software." The Mustang Mach-E is Ford's flagship EV model and was launched in 2021. Its SUV version has a range of between 292 and 372 miles, depending on the trim. Advertisement The top-end models can also reach a top speed of 120mph, and go from zero to 62mph in 6.7 seconds. It comes after another major carmaker recalled thousands of cars that may have a 'deadly' defect. Owners of popular Citroën models - built between 2009 and 2019 - have been warned to stop driving their cars immediately. Stellantis has told all owners of 2009-2019 Citroën Mk1 DS 3s and Mk2 Citroën C3s in the UK to stop driving their cars immediately. Advertisement This includes both the Citroën DS 3 and the later versions of the supermini - sold under the separate DS brand. It followed the death of a driver after her Takata airbag in her 2014 Citroën C3 exploded. French carmaker Citroën had already recalled the affected cars - replacing airbags in just under 70 per cent of the 690,000 vehicles.

Wednesday letters Photo by Illustration / Toronto Sun Canada is changing. Three major cities control all of Canada and they do not care for the rest of Canada. Quebec will only bluff to separate. Alberta will hopefully separate. Saskatchewan might even follow. This will take years, but the three major cities will not change, so it is inevitable. The Liberals will always be in power and it is dividing our once great country. Viva le Canada, but I think not. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. FORD WAS THE MAN There has been so much negativity written and rumoured about Rob Ford's way of living. I would like to hear about what he did for the ordinary people who lived in Toronto and had a problem. He stayed up late to catch up on returning these calls personally. He then worked on solving many of these problems. Could you see any mayor since then putting themselves out as he did? That is just one instance of how he felt for the people he worked for and who voted him in. I have not lived in Toronto for many years; however I was born, educated and worked there until it became so crowded and I could not walk on the streets without fear of being accosted or worse. I want to thank John Snobelen for his column about Rob Ford ('Remembering Rob Ford for his spirit and compassion,' June 21.) And who knows how far he would have gone to better the lives of all in Toronto if he hadn't been struck down with cancer after first recovering from his problem. May he rest in peace. A.M. Heslin Orillia (He should be remembered for all the good things he did.) ZIP IT PUTIN I think the funniest (or most pathetic) article I've read was Russian President Vladimir Putin commenting on the U.S. attack on Iran as 'unprovoked' and 'unjustified.' Ford unleashes the 2025 F-150 Lobo

FORD is reviving a storied nameplate with the launch of the 2025 F-150 Lobo, introducing a brawny new street truck that combines aggressive styling with familiar V8 performance. The 'Lobo' designation, Spanish for 'wolf', traces its heritage back to a 1981 Bronco concept and later gained popularity as a branding choice for F-150 models in Mexico starting in 1997. For the first time, this name is making its debut in the United States market as a distinctive variant of the brand's best-selling pickup. Rather than being positioned as a standalone trim, the Lobo is offered as an optional appearance package for the F-150 STX. This version of the truck is available exclusively in the SuperCrew configuration and is paired with Ford's 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine. The powerplant delivers 400hp and 555Nm of torque, maintaining the same output as the standard STX variant. Buyers seeking higher performance figures will need to consider other F-150 options, such as the 450hp EcoBoost V6 or the formidable Raptor R, which houses a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 producing an immense 720hp. Mechanically, the F-150 Lobo adopts a four-wheel-drive system equipped with an electronically controlled, on-demand two-speed transfer case. It offers selectable drive modes, including 2H, 4A, 4H, and 4L, catering to both on-road agility and off-road capability. The truck's practical credentials remain solid, with a payload capacity of up to 657kg and a towing capacity rated at 3,583 kg. While its performance remains largely unchanged, the Lobo package is focused on style and street presence. The visual transformation includes a comprehensive 10-piece ground effects kit and numerous blacked-out design elements. A cowl hood, bespoke front grille, and a dual-layer LED light bar give the front end a more commanding appearance. Ford has also updated the taillights and introduced subtle Lobo badging to reinforce the identity of this special model. Further distinguishing the Lobo from other STX models are exclusive 22-inch gloss black alloy wheels, paired with a rear suspension drop of two inches to create a lower, sportier stance. The rear view is enhanced by visible dual exhaust tips, a feature notably absent on the Maverick Lobo. Although black paint may suit its aggressive design, Ford offers a choice of finishes, including Atlas Blue, Rapid Red, Carbonised Grey, and Oxford White for added variety. Ford has priced the F-150 Lobo at USD 59,995 (RM282,000). The cost places the Lobo around USD 4,695 (RM22,100) above the base STX model, reflecting the extensive cosmetic upgrades and exclusive styling elements that define this bold new entrant in the full-size street truck segment.
