Marcie Allen - I Still Believe [Bassline Records] Marcie Allen - the singer on this - and I have been friends since the 80s. Before She and I met, she was in the group Aquarian Dream and worked with Patrick Adams and many others. We have made numerous tunes together including "All Over Me" by Underground Circuit (sampled by Jr Vasquez for "Dream Drums"), "You Need Someone" by Groove Committee, amongst others. This is our latest release together and will also be included on her upcoming album that we are putting together. Soul Magic & Ebony Soul Feat. Ann Nesby - Get Your Thing Together (Odyssey Inc. Remix) [Bassline Records] I wrote this with Lenny D in 1989, and originally recorded it with Martha Wash. That version was never released, but a version with Roberta Gilliam was in around 1990. Fast Forward to approx. 2008, and I recorded a version with Ann Nesby, who added some additional writing to it too. Various mixes have been done on it since, and this is the latest - a new release. I had met Brian Tappert, one of the owners of Traxsource, and Roy Grant, who later became known as Jazz N Groove, at Winter Music Conference in 1992. At the time, they had not produced or released much. I asked them to send demos when they were ready, and they did. I had started Bassline records around that time, and this was amongst the first releases I assisted them with. We released numerous works of theirs leading up to 1995 and Brian then started Soulfuric Recordings with Marc Pomeroy. Ebony Soul - I Can Hardly Wait (Victor Simonelli Mix) [Unkwn Rec] Released in 1992 initially on Eightball Records, this is a release that is often requested, and another one of my Pseudonyms. There's been an anniversary release of this just recently released with original and various mixes on one of my own labels, Unkwn Rec's. Blind Truth feat Tata & Toney - Why Can't We See (Odyssey Inc. Feat Louis Latino Remix) [Unkwn Rec] Arthur Baker and I originally created this tune together in 1991. I am guessing it sets the record for the tune with most remixes and reworks, ever, with approximately 200 or so, to date. This is the latest remix of this treasure by Odyssey Inc. Brooklyn's Most Wanted - Just A Touch Away [Good Groove Records] Produced by my eldest son, Immanuele Simonelli, and on his label Good Groove Rec's, I assisted him with mixing and arranging this. Setting dancefloors on fire. Sound Of One - I Know A Place (Neapolitan Soul Remix) [Unkwn Rec] Originally released in 1993 and often imitated, here is the latest remix by Neapolitan Soul. Available on Traxsource by another one of my many Pseudonyms, so new there is no Youtube link yet! Serena May - Tell Me Is This Love (Victor Simonelli Mix) [Bassline Records] Serena May is a young new artist and a great songwriter, working with her Dad and Mom on her own tunes. She is from the UK and when her Mom presented me with a downtempo version of this song, I said I would like to remix it. This it the result - just released on Bassline Records. Interaction - Move To The Beat (Deep Dub) [Vendetta Records] One of my first solely produced releases, made in 1988 and released in 1989. This Dub version still works.

Yahoo is using AI to generate takeaways from this article. This means the info may not always match what's in the article. Reporting mistakes helps us improve the experience. Generate Key Takeaways The US Space Force (USSF) has awarded Northrop Grumman a $244 million contract to develop advanced relay ground stations in the United States and the United Kingdom. These installations will support the Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next-Gen OPIR) program, a key element of America's evolving missile warning and tracking infrastructure. The new stations are expected to improve global coverage and resilience for satellites designed to detect missile launches and potential threats, while ensuring compatibility with legacy systems and newer constellations. Scalable ground systems for evolving threats Northrop Grumman will deploy a flexible, modular ground station design that builds upon the company's experience with the Relay Ground Station-Asia (RGS-A), currently under development in Guam. The new stations will provide adaptable infrastructure to accommodate changes in satellite bandwidth and operational demands. 'We are developing advanced relay ground stations that are scalable and upgradeable, and prioritize high performance, reliability and mission flexibility for the Next-Gen OPIR program,' said Calvin Pennamon, director of operational exploitation systems at Northrop Grumman, in an official press release. 'Our ground systems will enhance communications between Space System Command's legacy and future Space Based Infrared Systems, providing access to multiple constellations enabling warfighters to maintain a decisive edge against enemy threats.' The Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, acting on behalf of the Space Systems Command, selected Northrop Grumman for the multiple-award indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract. Strengthening the FORGE modernization framework The ground stations are a critical part of the USSF's Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE) system—an expansive effort to upgrade and integrate US missile warning capabilities. FORGE aims to establish a government-owned ground network that links current and future missile detection satellites through modernized command and control operations. Complementing Northrop's contract, the Space Systems Command recently announced a $259 million award to SciTec, a New Jersey-based software developer, to further FORGE's integrated enterprise buildout. The company will develop a ground system supporting FORGE and non-FORGE assets, enhancing continuity across legacy SBIRS and Next-Gen OPIR data pipelines. SciTec's prior involvement includes a $272 million contract in 2022 for data processing tools, $45.8 million in 2023 for SBIRS sensor processing applications, and $5 million in 2021 for prototype development. Much of SciTec's specialized software is engineered at its Boulder, Colorado, facility. S2E2 and ATLAS systems deepen space-based defenses As part of the broader modernization push, the USSF also activated the Survivable Endurable Evolution (S2E2) ground system earlier this month. Designed to replace the aging 1960s-era Mobile Ground System, S2E2 processes infrared data and integrates a nuclear detonation detection system. Additionally, L3Harris secured a contract in March to upgrade the Advanced Tracking and Launch Analysis System (ATLAS), which monitors anti-satellite activity and threats in orbit. Global coverage through distributed relay networks The new US- and UK-based stations complement the ongoing construction of RGS-A in Guam, reinforcing the USSF's goal of achieving global, persistent missile warning capabilities. These relay hubs allow early-warning signals from infrared satellites to reach command networks and deployed forces more reliably. Next-Gen OPIR remains a cornerstone of the US defense architecture, offering critical situational awareness and real-time missile launch detection to protect national and allied interests.

The race is on to capture the ‘heat beneath your feet'
Geothermal development, which seeks to tap the heat deep below the Earth's surface, is hot right now. The clean, renewable energy is tapped from heat continuously produced inside the Earth and used for bathing, heating buildings and generating electricity. Scientists have discovered that the temperature of Earth's inner core is about 10,800 degrees, as hot as the surface of the sun. In Utah this month, the Bureau of Land Management held a lease/sale of land for potential geothermal development, and it netted the most money per acre in recent history, with 14 parcels that brought in more than $5.6 million. The parcels totaled 50,971 acres and were leased for an average of $111.47 per acre. The combined bonus bids, rentals and subsequent royalties from the leases will be distributed between the U.S. Treasury, the state of Utah and the counties where the leases are located. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, most of the geothermal power plants in the United States are in Western states and Hawaii, where geothermal energy resources are close to the Earth's surface. California generates the most electricity from geothermal energy. The Geysers dry steam reservoir in Northern California is the largest known dry steam field in the world and has been producing electricity since 1960. Utah ranks third in the nation for installed geothermal power, producing 84 megawatts of electricity. Nine years ago, the University of Utah emerged as one of two final contenders in a national hunt to be home to a geothermal demonstration project. The university and Sandia's Nevada site beat out a volcanic area in Bend, Oregon, the Idaho National Laboratory near Idaho Falls, and a Sandia site at the U.S. Navy's China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station north of Ridgecrest, California. Ultimately, Utah was picked, achieving a unique victory because the Salt Lake team was the only contender that was a university and not a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory with more access to federal resources. The victory meant that the the U.S. Department of Energy threw its financial muscle at Utah's FORGE project, spearheaded by the university's Energy & Geoscience Institute and watched by a lot of countries — including Germany, Japan, China and the United Kingdom. The project in Beaver County involves the drilling of one of two deep, deviated wells seeking to capture geothermal energy bubbling at 437 degrees. The enhanced geothermal technology works like a radiator, with the planned injection of water into one well that will then be brought up as steam to power a turbine to turn it into energy. In 2023, the FORGE project proved its worth, with two deep vertical wells linked to a long horizontal conduit that made a connection. The project injected 1,800 barrels of water into one well at five barrels a minute and achieved success when it flowed along the horizontal pathway to travel up the production well. That same year, the Department of Energy announced $74 million in competitive funding available to Utah and other states for development of geothermal resources and technology. In 2024, the agency agreed to extend the Utah FORGE project for another four years, granting an additional $80 million in funding. Bryant Jones, executive director of Geothermal Rising, said this latest BLM offering is in stark contrast to a BLM auction just a few years ago. In 2021, the industry was asked by the federal agency for nominations of land for potential geothermal development. The result was a submission of 175,000 acres for a sale in 2023. In that instance, just over 3,000 acres were put up for bid. 'So this is a huge change,' he said. 'We know that it was heavily attended, and a lot of geothermal developers were not successful because there were so many bids. It's not a good problem to have, but it is a positive trend that aligns with the momentum that we are seeing in the geothermal industry.' Jones said the turnabout is based on the need for baseload energy and a clean renewable resource. Geothermal provides both, he added. 'I think we are seeing global politics as they are that there is a need for baseload energy that is local and with an American name that we can generate right here without relying on global supply chains, which are now in a lot of turmoil,' Jones said. 'And geothermal does not require global supply chains the way that intermittent energy and fossil fuels are impacted by global supply chains.' The oil shale revolution of 25 years ago exploded due to the advent of horizontal drilling, which is now key to geothermal development. That technology opens up a lot more spots for potential geothermal, with Jones describing it as a game changer. 'We're seeing a lot of interest from oil and gas developers.' But unlike capturing fossil fuels, geothermal has unique qualities. 'It has the lowest life cycle carbon footprint of any renewable energy technology, less than solar and wind. It has the smallest environmental footprint of all energy technologies. So what we see are environmental organizations seeing these benefits that they far outweigh and surpass all other energy technologies,' he said. Jones added geothermal enjoys support in the political space because it is an 'everywhere' technology. 'Different sides of the political spectrum see and appreciate geothermal for the different attributes that it provides.' Like other projects, geothermal faces the challenges of federal permitting. On average, Jones said it takes about seven years of environmental reviews for a developer to receive a permit. 'Geothermal doesn't have a technology problem. It has a policy problem, and it's a mature technology that's been around for 100 years, more than 100 years. Once we address those policy challenges, the geothermal industry can take off in the United States.'

Opinion: Utah's geothermal resources can lead the way to energy independence for Americans
America's next energy revolution isn't a distant dream; it's right at our feet. Or to be more accurate, it's right beneath our feet, in the same geological depths where we currently produce oil and natural gas. U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who knows this industry well, recently spoke at a geothermal event and said that a mature geothermal industry could 'better energize our country and improve the quality of life for everyone. It could help enable AI, manufacturing, reshoring and stop the rise of our electricity prices.' Geothermal energy — a reliable, 24/7 power source — offers a clear path to strengthening our grid, lowering costs and securing true energy independence. Not only that, but geothermal energy also draws on the same oil and gas production technologies that transformed America into a global energy superpower. For Utah, there's another reason to be bullish on advanced geothermal: Our state is already a leader in the development of this technology. The Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) — the nation's leading technology accelerator for advanced geothermal — is located just outside Milford, around 200 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. And Utah ranks third in the nation for geothermal electricity generation after California and Nevada. Support for geothermal isn't about fleeting trends or virtue signaling. It's about leveraging decades of American drilling expertise, refined by advances in hydraulic fracturing, horizontal drilling and subsurface engineering, to unlock vast domestic energy reserves. Geothermal provides consistent, always-available power. This reliability is critical for grid stability and national security, ensuring our industries and homes are powered regardless of the weather. Furthermore, geothermal boasts one of the smallest land footprints of any energy source, respecting private property rights and minimizing environmental disruption. With an estimated 5,000 gigawatts of untapped geothermal capacity, the U.S. has the opportunity to lead the world in this critical energy sector. For scale, that amount of capacity is roughly the same as 5,000 large-scale nuclear power plants, or 50 times the size of the current civilian nuclear power sector in the U.S. today. Therefore, developing just a fraction of the nation's geothermal potential would be yet another game changer for America, securing energy independence for decades at least. We must not squander this advantage. Currently, unnecessary regulatory barriers and a lack of investment in advanced drilling technologies stifle geothermal development. Expanding access to federal lands, streamlining permitting and incentivizing private-sector innovation will unleash our potential, drive down costs and create thousands of high-paying jobs in our energy-rich communities. We cannot ignore the aggressive geothermal expansion of our global competitors, particularly China. To ensure our energy leadership and independence, we must cut bureaucratic red tape, prioritize domestic energy production and unleash American ingenuity. Geothermal is not just a clean energy solution; it's a strategic asset, strengthening national security, revitalizing industry and ensuring long-term economic prosperity. To unlock this potential, Congress must act decisively. First, we need comprehensive permitting reform to cut red tape and accelerate project timelines, removing the obstacles that hinder private investment. Second, we must maintain technology-neutral tax breaks, like the 45Y and 48E credits, to spur private investment and encourage innovation. Finally, we must prioritize robust research and development funding to reduce drilling costs and advance next-generation geothermal technologies — like the work that Utah FORGE is doing, but on an even bigger scale. By adopting these policies, we can unleash domestic energy production, reduce our dependence on foreign adversaries, and cement our position as the global energy leader. This is not about ideology; it's about securing America's future — and leveraging Utah's natural resources and existing strengths to move the nation closer to true energy independence. America is on the cusp of a technological revolution. With geothermal, we will unleash the power beneath our feet and make our country the envy of the world — again.
