Varanasi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday arrived in Varanasi to chair the 25th Central Zonal Council meeting to be attended by chief ministers and officials of four states, on Tuesday. Shah was welcomed by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. In a post in Hindi on X, Yogi said, "Hearty welcome to the honourable Union home and cooperation minister Shri Amit Shah ji in the holy city of Kashi, the abode of Devadidev Mahadev!" Varanasi divisional commissioner S Rajlingam said that following the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, all preparations had been made for the meeting. UP CM Yogi Adityanath, along with his counterparts Pushkar Singh Dhami from Uttarakhand, Mohan Yadav from Madhya Pradesh, Vishnu Deo Sai from Chhattisgarh, besides ministers and officials from these states, will participate in the meeting. The CZC meeting is being organised by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the ministry of home affairs, govt of India, in collaboration with the UP govt. Among these members, the CM of one member state (rotating every year) acts as the vice-chairperson. From each member state, the governor nominates two ministers as members of the council. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised the need to leverage cooperative and competitive federalism for the all-round development of the country. With the belief that strong states make a strong nation, the zonal councils provide a structured mechanism for dialogue and discussion on issues affecting two or more states or the Centre and states, and through this, serve as an important platform to enhance cooperation," an official said. The zonal councils discuss broad issues of national importance, including the speedy investigation of cases of sexual offences against women and children and the implementation of fast track special courts (FTSC) for swift disposal; providing banking facilities in villages; implementation of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112); and various regional-level issues like strengthening nutrition, education, health, electricity, urban planning, and cooperative system.

New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will chair the 25th meeting of the Central Zonal Council on Tuesday in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The meeting will be attended by Chief Ministers of the member states along with two senior ministers from each state. The Central Zonal Council comprises the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. This meeting is being organised by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh government. Under Sections 15 to 22 of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, five Zonal Councils were established. The Union Home Minister is the chairperson of these five Zonal Councils, and the Chief Ministers or Lieutenant Governors of the states and Union Territories are their members. Among these members, the Chief Minister of one member state (rotating every year) acts as the vice-chairperson. From each member state, the Governor nominates two ministers as members of the council, a Home Ministry statement said. The role of the Zonal Councils is advisory; however, over the past few years, these councils have proven to be an important factor in promoting healthy bonds of mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields. With the cooperation of all state governments, central ministries, and departments, a total of 61 meetings of the various Zonal Councils and their permanent committees have been held in the last eleven years. The Chief Secretaries of the state governments and other senior officials, as well as senior officials from the Central government, will also participate in the meeting. The Central Zonal Council comprises the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. The meeting is being organised by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government. Under Sections 15 to 22 of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, five Zonal Councils were established. The Union Home Minister is the chairperson of these five Zonal Councils, and the Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators of the member states and Union Territories are their members. March 5 (Reuters) - UK shares broadly recovered ground on Wednesday, after declining in the previous session, as investors looked for any possible reprieve from U.S. tariffs. The FTSE 100 (.FTSE), opens new tab rose 0.5% at 1050 GMT, while the domestically focussed midcap FTSE 250 (.FTMC), opens new tab climbed 1.3% after notching its worst session in seven months on Tuesday. The small cap index (.FTSC), opens new tab gained 1%. The blue-chip index fell from record highs in the prior session after U.S. President Donald Trump's new tariffs on top trading partners took effect. However, comments from the U.S. Commerce Secretary about possible exemptions to Mexican and Canadian duties kept hopes for negotiations afloat. Trump's comments that Ukraine was ready to negotiate for an end to the war with Russia also helped lift sentiment, after a sharp clash with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last week. The index tracking precious metal miners (.FTNMX551030), opens new tab leapt 3.6%, the biggest sectoral gainer. Financial shares also lifted the FTSE 100 (.FTSE), opens new tab, with the bank sector (.FTNMX301010), opens new tab up 2.2% after dropping more than 3% on Tuesday. UK bond yields rose, tracking a selloff in longer-dated German bonds, after the parties hoping to form the new German government agreed to overhaul borrowing rules and increase government spending, particularly on defence.
