Final trailer for Alien: Earth drops another xenomorph tease, but I'm far more interested in the horror show's other unsettling creatures

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The final trailer for FX's Alien: Earth has been released It'll premiere on Hulu and Disney+ in mid-August The sci-fi horror franchise's iconic Xenomorph won't be the show's most interesting monster There's less than a month to go (at the time of publication) until Alien: Earth crash-lands on our screens. So, what better way is there to celebrate than the release of one final, terror-fuelled trailer? With the sci-fi horror show set to launch on Hulu (US) and Disney+ (internationally) in mid-August, FX Networks has decided to release one more teaser to further whet our appetite for its release. And, if you thought the Alien franchise's iconic xenomorph would be the most frightening monster that'll show up, you'd better think again. Sure, the fan-favorite biological weapon will appear in the Alien franchise's first-ever TV show. That much has been made clear ever since Alien: Earth's underwhelming first teaser dropped in September 2024. It's the show's other skin-crawling creatures, though, that have piqued my interest since FX birthed another teaser for Alien: Earth in late April. Indeed, we caught glimpses of the other extraterrestrial beings that'll show up in the series in Alien: Earth's first proper trailer in June. Now, we have confirmation of not only how many we'll actually see, but the threat they'll pose to the human and android characters who populate the show. "This ship collected specimens – five new lifeforms – from distant planets," Babou Ceesay's Morrow can he heard saying in the latest round of footage. "[They're] monsters." You can say that again. From the carnivorous venus flytrap-like creature – D. Plumricarl – seen dangling from a ceiling (see the image above) to the eye-based lifeform – T. Ocellus – that's bonded to an unsuspecting sheep (see the image below), Sydney Chandler's Wendy, Morrow, and company won't want to mess around with these life-threatening species from other worlds. For those of you who missed it first time around, here's the story brief for Alien: Earth, courtesy of FX: "In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. "In this Corporate Era, cyborgs – humans with both biological and artificial parts – and synthetics – humanoid robots with artificial intelligence – exist alongside humans. But, the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids, humanoid robots infused with human consciousness." "The first hybrid prototype named 'Wendy' (Chandler) marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani's spaceship collides into Prodigy City, 'Wendy' and the other hybrids encounter mysterious life forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined." Joining Chandler and Ceesay on the show's cast roster are Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Kit Young, David Rysdahl, Lily Newmark, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver, among others. You can read more about the show's extensive cast, plot details, and its future in our ultimate guide to Alien: Earth. As we revealed in mid-May, Alien: Earth will be released on August 12. Well, in the US, plus other North American countries, and South America. In Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, it'll arrive on August 13. Hollywood star issues sweet message as Welsh festival begins

Hollywood star issues sweet message as Welsh festival begins It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Rob McElhenney was seen in a short clip practising his Welsh words and phrases Well-known Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney has welcomed the National Eisteddfod 2025 - all in Welsh. The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor, who is also the co-owner of Wrexham AFC alongside fellow Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, was seen in a short clip practising his Welsh words and phrases as the cultural festival kickstarts this weekend. ‌ The American actor was aided by Maxine Hughes, a Welsh journalist from Conwy who now lives in Washington D.C. The journalist has been helping both McElhenney and Reynolds with learning Welsh since they took over the north Wales club in 2020. ‌ At the start of the short clip, Maxine begins: "Ok, let's do: 'Croeso i'r Eisteddfod yn Wrecsam', which I know you can do this because we've done the 'croeso' many times before". Rob then repeats 'Croeso i'r Eisteddfod yn Wrecsam' in near perfect Welsh, but as Maxine points out the 'y' in the word 'yn', which means 'in' in Welsh, has a distinctive sound. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here . ‌ After a few attempts, Rob is able to pronounce the phrase as if he was from Wales. "You actually sounded like a proper Welsh person there because you called it 'Steddfod, which is what we call it. That was excellent." The two then go over 'Mae'r Eisteddfod yn dod i Wrecsam', which means that the 'Eisteddfod is coming to Wrexham'. By his second attempt, the comedian and actor has perfect pronunciation of the phrase and seemingly knows it as his smile beams. ‌ The sweet clip comes as the National Eisteddfod begins in the Welsh city on Saturday, August 2. The week-long cultural festival will take place at Is-y-Coed in Wrexham, the first time it has been held in the city since 2011. Journalist Maxine Hughes has helped the two actors - Ryan Reynolds (left) and Rob McElhenney (right) with learning Welsh over the years (Image: FX Networks/Youtube) In recent weeks, the farmland has been transformed into a small town with the 1,500 seat pavilion, an array of performance spaces and stalls and the Gorsedd circle. The National Eisteddfod is the largest cultural festival in Europe, held in a different part of Wales every year and aims to "promote, preserve and protect the heritage and culture of Wales". Article continues below And after successfully helping out Rob McElhenney with his Welsh phrases, Maxine Hughes will be heading back to her homeland for the special festival. She will address the audience as the leader of Wales and the World during the special event of Cymanfa Ganu (Singing Assembly) at the Eisteddfod on Sunday night, August 3. She will also take part in leading other sessions on the Maes (festival ground) during the week.

Welsh mum who starred alongside Ryan Reynolds on Welcome to Wrexham reveals secret cancer battle Maxine Hughes, 45, who translated for Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on Disney's 'Welcome to Wrexham' has opened up about her health Maxine Hughes translates for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on Welcome to Wrexham (Image: FX Networks/Youtube ) A Welsh mum who featured on Disney's 'Welcome to Wrexham' as a translator for Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has shared her secret battle with cancer. Journalist Maxine Hughes, 45, who amused fans by teasing the A-listers over their struggles with the Welsh language, has recently completed her 20th intense round of chemotherapy. The mum, who is married to Sally Ayhan, 42, and has two young boys, Iori, 12, and Manu, 7, revealed that she kept her diagnosis of triple negative cancer within her close circle of family and friends. ‌ However, her small group of confidants, including Rob's family, particularly his step-mum Jill, have made the past traumatic and "dark" six months "a million times" easier. ‌ TV and radio journalist Maxine confessed that upon receiving the devastating diagnosis, she feared she might not live to see her children grow up. She is now facing a double mastectomy, which she has agreed to be filmed for a documentary, providing an unfiltered account of her cancer journey. The documentary will use Maxine's story as a lens to examine the challenges faced by the NHS in England and the waiting times in Wales, amidst rising levels of cancer, reports the Mirror. Maxine's boys Iori, 12 and Manu, 7, who have discovered more about their Welsh heritage since the show Article continues below Maxine, originally from Conwy but currently living and working in Washington DC, spoke to The Mirror during her final chemo session in Virginia on Thursday. "It's called red devil," she explains about the potent chemo coursing through her veins. Speaking candidly about her battle with cancer, she revealed: "Until recently the word cancer was almost like a death sentence. You hear it and you go, 'oh my god, am I gonna die?' You suddenly go to the worst place and you start thinking 'can I stay alive for five years? Can I get my kids to school?' "It's definitely a really dark place, but then you start the treatment and you have to just get on with it. Having two very energetic boys has forced me to stay active, to keep getting up for early morning sports practice. I've had very little time to stop and get depressed." ‌ Maxine was in Australia for Christmas, visiting her wife's family, when she discovered a lump, a few days after the heartbreaking news her dad John, had died aged 80. "When I was there my dad, who was suffering from dementia, got very sick and died. It was a terrible time. My wife had taken the kids out on a day trip to give me some space and some quiet because I was in shock and I was upset. I was sitting there and I put my hand on my chest and thought, 'oh my God, there's a lump and it's quite a big one'. ". Welsh-born Maxine Hughes during her last chemo session in Virginia, US (Image: Apple Photos Clean Up ) ‌ Shocked by the find, Maxine mentioned "it was hard to believe" considering she had a clear mammogram the previous October and she "checked all the time". Upon returning home, the broadcaster Maxine was assigned to report on the wildfires in LA. "I was running around in the thick of it with a mask on my face protecting me from the smoke, but all the while, little did I know, I had a very, very aggressive tumor and cancer growing." Maxine booked in to get a mammogram as soon as she got back and the radiologist told her straight away: 'I can see that it's cancer'." ‌ "As a journalist I've covered so many stories about cancer, whether it's about waiting times or a new treatment. So it was such a weird, surreal experience becoming my own story. I remember the moment very clearly, I almost fainted. I was in such shock." Maxine was further left shattered when she was told after a biopsy her cancer was Triple Negative. "It was almost a bigger shock than finding out I had cancer. It's such an aggressive type of cancer it's really scary, they started chemotherapy straight away." ‌ In her documentary, she aims to be 'candid' about her ordeal, including the 'weird stuff' she endured during chemotherapy. "The hair loss was traumatic and the worst part for me. But no one really told me about things like; nails falling off, stuff getting in my eyes all the time due to lack of eyelashes, terrible, consistent bloating, swelling and water retention." She's making good progress with her treatment and is scheduled for a double mastectomy next month, which she has consented to document on film to assist other women, followed by minimal reconstructive surgery. ‌ Maxine Hughes with wife Sally Ayhan who has helped her with a "traumatic" cancer diagnosis "It is an incredibly invasive surgery that will drastically change you physically as a woman. And I think that personally I haven't found enough out there. It's like you've got to save your breasts. There's quite a pressure on women, like it's part of your femininity. "But I don't want the tissue. That's the conversation I want out there, it's okay if you don't want to do anything and not have any reconstruction. I didn't want to save them. I want to cut them off. ". ‌ Her mastectomy has been postponed for a week by surgeons, allowing her to return to Wales to receive a prestigious Welsh honour at this year's National Eisteddfod in Wrexham. "When I return I am going to be thinking of my dad every step of the way. His family are from Wrexham. It really is an amazing end to a traumatic few months." The mother expresses her eternal gratitude to Rob and Ryan, stating: "It's been so much more than just a bit of television for a documentary series." Maxine says the series has helped her reconnect with her Wrexham roots. ‌ She landed the job after responding to an advertisement, explaining: "I mean everybody in the US who speaks Welsh knows each other. So they sent me the casting call notices. "I was like, 'oh, it's a joke, it's not real'. So I called them and I just said, is this real? And they said, 'it is real and every Welsh speaker in America's been calling us'." Stay informed on the latest health news by signing up to our newsletter here She quickly became a fan favourite when she first appeared in the series promo, standing slightly apart from the stars to provide translations. In one memorable moment, she rolls her eyes and shares with viewers in Welsh: 'The tall skinny one does movies. The muscular one sells cream cheese from Philadelphia or is no way these two can manage a football club.' ‌ Maxine revealed: "Actually, when we shot the promo it was the first time they'd met each other in person but it was as if they'd known each other for years. "We had a script but usually with Rob and Ryan, they ad-lib so much, they sort of bounce off each other. At first I think people thought it was a joke, they thought it was satire. But I was really aware of the fact that it needed to be me making fun of them and not making fun of Welsh. She said Rob's Welsh is the best of the two and his dad is "pretty good, too". ‌ "I think Rob's probably tried a little bit more to learn more. But they're both really respectful about the need to incorporate the language into everything they do and it's a very difficult language for an American to learn." About the show she said: "Wrexham has played such a positive role in my life for the last few years. "For me it's been a reconnection with Wrexham and also for my children to be able to form that connection. ‌ "And it's also introduced me to so many people that I would never have otherwise met and people who've become really important to us as a family. "I think you see with Rob and Ryan it's always been more than just about buying a football team or making TV. It's been about investing in a part of the UK, part of Wales that needed a bit of attention. "They've respected the community, they've respected the team and the football club and what it means to the area. And the Welsh language too. Rob's family are an extension of that warmth and kindness and positivity and I feel so lucky to have been introduced to them. Article continues below "Wrexham is such a strong community of people, and it's them that have made the success. Of course, they've had help from two people from Hollywood but none of this would have been possible without the community of Wrexham. "I don't even know where else in the world you can find that, it's a very unique place. ".
