Shalini Passi reveals a lifestyle habit she swears by: ‘It's incredibly powerful, great for metabolism, healing, and overall wellness'
You may (or may not) have seen Shalini Passi on Netflilx's Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, but ever since the show dropped late last year, the art and design 'collector, advisor, patron, artist, and philanthropist' has been the talk of the town, stealing the spotlight at every event she attends. Most recently, she turned heads at the Festival de Cannes 2025, where she walked the red carpet in an exquisite Manish Malhotra creation inspired by artist Paresh Maity's visual artistic interpretation of India's Longitude 77 – from North to South. In an exclusive interaction with Shalini Passi opened up about her experience at Cannes, her journey, how life has changed post-Netflix, her lifestyle, diet, and much more. Read edited excerpts below: Shalini Passi: I wanted to do a travel show and art show. During the pandemic, I travelled extensively across India – Leh, Ladakh, Mahabalipuram, Jodhpur – capturing the architecture, culture, and local stories through film and photography. But when I pitched the idea to various networks, I was told there wasn't a big enough audience for that kind of content. Around the same time, this opportunity came through Dharma Productions. Karan (Johar) and I spoke, and I thought — they're shooting in Delhi, it's a new format, and I've always embraced new experiences. Fabulous Lives was very different from anything I had done before. Shalini Passi: To be honest, even before I was in the limelight, I was always doing a lot because I have a wide range of interests. Whether it was curating a show for FDCI titled Fashion Meets Art, or collaborating with MASH on art exhibitions, I've always lived a fairly hectic and creatively driven life. I enjoy structure and thrive on being immersed in things that excite me. The limelight means people now see what I've always been doing behind the scenes. But for me, not much has changed internally. I'm pretty much the same person whether it's public or private. A post shared by Shalini Passi (@ Shalini Passi: It's been a bit hectic. I had initially planned to take a vacation after the show, but the overwhelming love and affection I've received completely changed that. People have reached out, writing entire paragraphs about how my journey has inspired them. That kind of impact has been profoundly moving and humbling. I've also really enjoyed the renewed interaction with the media and the chance to speak at various events across the country, from Hyderabad to Chennai to Kolkata, sometimes visiting the same city multiple times. Most recent invite was at the Cannes Film Festival to launch Longitude 77 Collector's Edition at the official Indian Pavilion. Shalini Passi: The outfit is truly special. It's inspired by the incredible artwork of Paresh Maity, representing the meridian Longitude 77, which spans the length of India from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari. The legendary designer Manish Malhotra brought it to life. It's art in motion. We've all been looking forward to this collaboration, which beautifully merges three worlds: Indian art, Indian fashion, and the indomitable Indian spirit. Wearing this piece feels like stepping into a living canvas. It's a proud moment not just for me but for all of us to present such a powerful expression of our culture on a global stage like Cannes. For me, it's about taking India to the world through our stories, creativity, and heritage. Shalini Passi: For me, fashion is an expression of myself. It reflects who I am, what I believe in, and what brings me joy. Right now, I'm in a maximalist phase – I'm enjoying bold choices, vibrant elements, and pieces that tell a story. As for the dos and don'ts, I always try to respect the context. Dressing appropriately for the occasion is essential. Understanding the culture of the country I'm in, the people I'm with, and the tone of the event. Sensitivity and awareness are key. Comfort is also a big priority. If I'm not comfortable, I won't feel confident. And lastly, I try to make ethical choices wherever possible. Fashion should be mindful as well as expressive. Shalini Passi: I'm very regimented by nature. I like structure and discipline in my daily life. I follow a raw food diet until 6 PM, which keeps my energy levels high and digestion light. Fitness is a non-negotiable part of my routine. I work out for about two hours a day, usually a mix of dance for an hour and Pilates for another. I sleep on time, avoid alcohol and cigarettes, and make it a point to eat clean and consciously. Skincare is another important part of my wellness routine. I truly believe in taking care of myself from the inside out. Shalini Passi: Yes, I'm very fond of Seema. She's such a fun person, and I enjoy chatting with her. In fact, I do meet the four of them whenever I'm in Bombay and our schedules align. That said, ever since the release of the show, my time has been incredibly limited. I've been working non-stop, and while I haven't had much of a social life lately, I'm really enjoying the pace and everything that's unfolding. A post shared by @orrysrelevanceroom Shalini Passi: Hopefully. I'm also looking forward to seeing myself on the screen. Shalini Passi: One habit I truly swear by is incorporating turmeric into your daily routine. It's incredibly powerful, great for metabolism, healing, and overall wellness. It's such a simple addition, but it makes a big difference. Shalini Passi: For me, consistency is key. People try hacks for ten days and expect results, but with the body, especially when it comes to skin and hair, real change takes at least three months. You have to be patient and committed. When it comes to hair care, I keep it very simple and natural. I rarely style my hair – I don't colour it, and I try to limit the use of heat as much as possible. That's also because I donate my hair to Tirupati, so I like to keep it healthy and untreated. You'll often see my hair tied up, and that's intentional. One thing I absolutely swear by is regular oiling. I have very curly hair, and I truly believe oiling has preserved its health and texture over the years. It's an old-school habit, but one that works. Shalini Passi: That's a great question. Honestly, I often look to others for insight into who I truly am, because sometimes people see things about us more clearly than we see ourselves. We tend to rationalise our actions and thoughts, but others can reflect a more actual image. If I had to describe what makes me, I'd say it's a blend of discipline and spontaneity. I'm very regimented and love planning, but I'm equally comfortable letting go and going with the flow when things don't go as expected. I embrace both structure and freedom, and that balance keeps me grounded. I also firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, guided by a higher power. Life is a continuous learning process – there's no failure or victory, just lessons along the way. That mindset, I think, truly shapes who I am. Shalini Passi's diet is reason behind her glowing skin? Know all about Indian patron's nutrition-rich, strict diet
Shalini Passi, who turned heads on the Netflix show Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, is now all set to make her debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year. Known for her extravagant fashion sense and bold personality, Passi is not just a social media sensation but also a serious health enthusiast. At 49, she's managed to stay youthful and radiant—and her secret lies in a unique, liquid-heavy diet that keeps her skin glowing and her energy levels high. In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, Passi opened up about what she eats in a day, her beauty mantra, and how she chooses wellness over indulgence. No Solid Meals, Just Power-Packed Liquids Shalini's daily routine revolves around a mostly liquid diet. From fresh juices to a variety of soups, her meals are designed not for pleasure but for purpose. She believes that eating for enjoyment often leads to poor choices, so she sticks to what nourishes her body and mind. "I eat to sustain myself, not for enjoyment," she shared. "I'm always working, so I don't have time for elaborate meals. Liquids are easy to digest, help with metabolism, and keep me light and energetic." Morning Routine: Juices, Curd, and More Her day begins at 9 a.m., which she considers her "dinner time" since she follows a unique eating pattern. The first thing she has is a shot of pure cow ghee. This is followed by her signature red juice of beetroot, celery, amla, and ginger. Next comes goat curd, which she consumes in a large glass. This is followed by sprout juice made from raw, sprouted green moong dal. She then drinks a spinach juice mixed with other green vegetables and nuts. Lately, she has also started including a boiled egg in her breakfast. All of these items are nutrient-rich and designed to kickstart her metabolism and support her skin and gut health. Midday Meals: Soups and Fruits Around 12:30 to 1 p.m., she eats what she calls lunch, which consists mainly of different soups. This is followed by five types of fruits, each a different color. According to Shalini, this follows Ayurvedic advice, which recommends eating colorful fruits for balanced nutrition. She also drinks a glass of pomegranate juice and coconut water around this time. By 3 or 3:30 p.m., just before her workout at 4 p.m., she consumes fruits to fuel her exercise routine. Evening Delights: Soups Galore and a Little Meat In the evening, the soup marathon continues. Shalini rotates between various types of vegetable-based soups, including: Green soup: Spinach and broccoli Red soup: Tomato and capsicum Bhindi soup: Not her favorite, but she drinks it anyway Pea and zucchini soup: Heavy but nutritious Daal soup and kala chana soup: Rich in protein Depending on how hungry she feels, she sometimes includes jawar, bajra, or ragi-based soup. Occasionally, she also eats a chila. On days when she doesn't visit the temple, she includes a non-vegetarian dish—usually chicken or fish—in her evening meal. Her dinner usually happens by 6:30 or 7 p.m., never too late. Spicy at Heart Though she follows a strict wellness-based diet, Shalini admits she loves spicy food. Her favorites include Indian, Chinese, and Thai dishes. "I love kadhi chawal and mutton curry," she revealed, adding that these dishes are close to her heart but are rarely part of her routine meals. Interestingly, she doesn't believe in cheat meals. "My diet is for wellness, not for weight loss or being slim," she emphasized. What stands out about Shalini Passi' s diet is not just the unusual ingredients or the liquid form—it's her deep commitment to holistic wellness. She's not trying to follow a trend or shed pounds quickly. Instead, she eats with purpose, mindfulness, and discipline.

Riddhima Kapoor Sahni says ‘diets and Kapoors don't go together', gives an insight into breakfast at maternal home: ‘Mann kyu maarna hai'
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni recently opened up about her diet and lifestyle, admitting that while the Kapoors love their food, over the years their choices have become much healthier. 'These days, breakfast is very healthy. There are no parathas, we have cheelas instead. We have a fruit platter, toast, eggs, and all of that. So, it's not heavy duty, but healthier breakfast options,' said the fashion designer who appeared on Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives. Adding that Kapoors are born foodies, the 44-year-old said: 'We are born foodies. Honestly, in the Kapoor house, everyone is a foodie. We enjoy our food. I don't believe in the word diet. Honestly, I don't. Do what makes your soul happy. Eat everything, but eat in moderation. Portion control is the key. Don't deprive yourself of anything. If you feel like having something sweet, have it. That's what I do.' She clarified that while everyone eats healthy, they don't follow restrictive diets. 'I don't think anyone diets in the Kapoors. Diet and Kapoors don't go together. They love their food. I don't think anyone believes in diet. They do believe in eating a balanced diet, but can't think anyone diets in the family,' Riddhima said in a conversation with Fit Tak. Riddhima emphasised that she is particular about not depriving herself of anything. 'I try to eat healthy, but I have a binge day once a week. I eat everything. I don't deprive myself. I am not on any sort of diet because I don't believe in it. Mann kyu maarna hai? (Why should one restrain oneself?) But I won't overdo it. If I want to have something sweet, I will have a piece of chocolate, and why not? That way, I am satisfied,' said Riddhima, who enjoys ghar ka khaana, especially South Indian. 'I love curd rice, achaar, papad. I crave South Indian,' she said. Dt. Vaishali Verma, consultant in nutrition and dietetics at Manipal Hospital Dwarka, said that while a balanced, comfort food has a feel-good effect on both mind and body, it is essential to consider moderation. 'Good food can trigger the release of dopamine, a brain chemical linked to reward and pleasure. Simply thinking about your favourite dish can kickstart this dopamine release,' said Verma. Choices like choosing cheelas over parathas for breakfast are mindful. Besan cheela, made from gram flour, is a nutritious option that offers protein, fibre, and essential nutrients. This delicious and low-calorie option provides sustained energy and supports digestion, said Verma. When you emphasise portion control and mindful eating, you make healthier choices which help nourish the body, maintain weight, and promote overall well-being.
