Ministry discusses warranty issues & spare parts crisis with auto industry

KUWAIT CITY, April 24: Director of the Technical Department for Supervision and Pricing of Goods at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Faisal Al-Ansari recently met with representatives of vehicle sales companies, Automobile Dealers Association, and representatives from the Al-Rai and Shuwaikh centers of the ministry. They tackled issues affecting the automotive market and consumers, particularly the warranty being waived when engine oil is changed outside the dealership. A mechanism for addressing this issue was discussed, ensuring consumer rights and preserving companies' obligations. A proposal was put forward that companies cover the cost of the oil and filter in the vehicle invoice to avoid the warranty being waived when the oil is changed outside the dealership. A consensus formula was also developed between all parties. They looked into the problems of technical inspection centers and emphasized the need for continuous coordination between the relevant authorities to ensure the smooth flow of technical services and control the quality of technical inspections of vehicles. On the other hand, the spare parts crisis was discussed as well, particularly for Chinese cars, which are in high demand in the local market. A number of trade centers have complained about the unavailability of original parts, which hinders maintenance operations. In this context, plans were announced to connect with Chinese companies to establish regional offices in Kuwait to secure spare parts and facilitate aftersales services. All those present at the meeting affirmed that these issues are being resolved in coordination with the relevant authorities, with the aim of safeguarding the interests of consumers and developing the automotive market environment in Kuwait.

Kuwait Cracks Down on Sweet Shops to Ensure Fair Pricing During Ramadan

KUWAIT CITY, Mar 14: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry team, led by Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of Supervision, has ramped up its inspection campaigns targeting sweet shops in the Shuwaikh area. This initiative is part of the ministry's broader strategy to monitor markets during the holy month of Ramadan. Sources informed that sweet shops experience a significant surge in demand during this period, particularly in connection with the 'Girghe'an' celebration. In light of this, the ministry has heightened its oversight of prices and product quality to ensure that merchants comply with established standards and to safeguard consumers from any potential violations. The sources emphasized that these field inspections are a key component of a comprehensive plan aimed at monitoring markets and addressing commercial violations on an ongoing basis. They also highlighted the importance of consumer cooperation in reporting any irregularities, assuring that the ministry will not hesitate to enforce strict legal measures against those found in violation of regulations.

Stores selling fake gifts, luxury items, shoes, watches shut

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 20: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued 22 closure decisions for commercial establishments in Hawally that violated regulations, and referred them to the Commercial Prosecution. The director of the Commercial Control Department at the ministry Faisal Al-Ansari explained that these decisions were made based on recommendations from the inspection committee. Among the establishments closed were two advertising companies. One of the companies had been promoting health insurance policies for specified amounts tied to each health insurance card. However, consumers were surprised to find that when they visited medical clinics, the cards were either suspended or did not carry the agreed-upon amounts. Many consumers also complained about not receiving their cards on the specified date, despite having paid in advance. The decisions included the closure of 13 stores selling counterfeit goods, including gifts, luxury items, shoes, watches, bags, and accessories. In addition, seven domestic labor recruitment offices were shut down for violating ministerial regulations prohibiting cash transactions. These offices were found to have accepted cash payments instead of using electronic payment devices such as Knet.
