San Angelo shelter helps families facing domestic violence
SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Travis Cuellar, the educational and developmental director for the Family Shelter, talked with Senora Scott about how the shelter is helping people across the Concho Valley and how donations made on May 3 for San Angelo Gives can help.
'At the Family Shelter we serve, first of all, the surrounding 15 counties and it's families that are going through domestic violence,' he said. 'We help them from anything from if they need shelter, literally.'
The giving is on! San Angelo Gives 2025 kicks off
Cuellar shared that the shelter also has a non-resident program. Families who need help are able to receive all the services that the shelter offers without having to stay there. Services include:
Case management
Assistance with documents
Help with job hunting
Housing
Children's educational department
'Family violence is a big topic that likes to be talked about, but it is everywhere,' Cuellar said. 'It doesn't matter if it's a professional family, it doesn't matter if it's a poor family. A lot of people have misconceptions that it is people who don't, who are in need of a lot of things, such as money, but it can affect any and everybody, that's why it is definitely a community issue.'
