SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Travis Cuellar, the educational and developmental director for the Family Shelter, talked with Senora Scott about how the shelter is helping people across the Concho Valley and how donations made on May 3 for San Angelo Gives can help.
'At the Family Shelter we serve, first of all, the surrounding 15 counties and it's families that are going through domestic violence,' he said. 'We help them from anything from if they need shelter, literally.'

Cuellar shared that the shelter also has a non-resident program. Families who need help are able to receive all the services that the shelter offers without having to stay there. Services include:
Case management
Assistance with documents
Help with job hunting
Housing
Children's educational department
'Family violence is a big topic that likes to be talked about, but it is everywhere,' Cuellar said. 'It doesn't matter if it's a professional family, it doesn't matter if it's a poor family. A lot of people have misconceptions that it is people who don't, who are in need of a lot of things, such as money, but it can affect any and everybody, that's why it is definitely a community issue.'

The Lone Star and the cross: One man's sacred march across Texas & beyond

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Walter Masters, a resident of San Angelo, Texas, has been carrying a cross across the United States for the past 25 years. Thursday morning, a reporter from Concho Valley Homepage saw Masters walking the streets on the south side of San Angelo. Recent rainfall in San Angelo exceeds normal June levels According to Masters, he's walked across the country in 46 states while counting some serious mileage along the way. 'I've walked about 25,000 miles sharing the love of Christ everywhere we go,' said Masters. Masters said he's walked into the San Angelo Rodeo Parade and that God had called him to stay and focus on San Angelo and the surrounding cities. TGSO hosts run for Special Olympics Texas Masters makes the crosses he carries. When it comes to the cross he carries, he said it weighs about 35 pounds, but it is nowhere near the level Jesus had to carry; however, his cross serves as a reminder. 'I pray if they don't stop, that they are reminded of Christ because that's all that matters, not me,' said Masters. Masters noted that his journey with the cross was taking him through San Angelo as he made his way to Bronte, Texas, nearly 34 miles from San Angelo. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Fundraiser started after 5-vehicle crash ‘totaled' family's only car

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A San Angelo family has launched a GoFundMe online fundraiser after a crash involving five vehicles reportedly resulted in their only car being 'wrecked and left totaled.' The crash occurred on Wednesday, June 4, near the 600 block of West 29th Street. According to a San Angelo Police Department officer at the scene, the collision happened after a white Chevrolet Suburban traveling westbound on 29th Street crashed into a silver Nissan Sentra that was traveling eastbound on the same street. The Suburban then left the roadway, striking a blue Chevy Colorado before continuing into a parking lot just outside of a nearby Cato Fashions store located in a strip mall. The vehicle then struck a silver Dodge Challenger, which in turn was pushed into a dark gray Dodge Challenger. The SAPD told a Concho Valley Homepage reporter that the driver of the Suburban may have suffered a medical complication while driving, causing the crash. The motorist was transported to the hospital. Johnny Guinan, the fundraiser's organizer, said he now owes $15,000 despite the car's estimated value being 'only $5,000.' Worsening matters for the family is their financial situation before the five-vehicle crash. Guinan stated on the webpage that an injury caused by a crash that occurred approximately one year ago has 'drained' the family's savings and forced him to switch jobs. 'We are just asking for some help getting a new car or getting ours fixed; any little bit helps,' the GoFundMe reads. As of the time of publication, the fundraiser has garnered $25 for the family. Teenager fatally pinned between 2 vehicles in California private school parking lot

STUDIO CITY, Calif. -- A 15-year-old was killed when a vehicle struck him in a school parking lot at a California private school Wednesday afternoon, sandwiching him between two vehicles, police said. The teen was hit at Campbell Hall, a private school in Studio City, just after 3 p.m., said David Cuellar, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. Paramedics took him to a hospital along with his father, who was not injured, and the teenager was later pronounced dead. 'It's just a tragic incident overall,' Cuellar said. It was not immediately clear how the crash happened. The driver of the green Rivian was cooperating with the investigation, Cuellar said. The driver was not arrested and this doesn't appear to be a criminal matter, according to Cuellar.
