Pizza Hut to release limited edition Cheeseburger Melts-inspired plushies from May 5, Lifestyle News

Collectible plushies are taking the F&B world by storm and Singaporeans are here for it — with recent launches like the Milo plushie and KFC x Mofusand collaborations receiving overwhelming buzz. Now, there's one more to collect as Pizza Hut Singapore is releasing their first-ever collectible plushie — Sir Melts-a-Lot — from May 5 until 18. Inspired by the new Cheeseburger Melts launched earlier this month (April 10), the plushie can be used as a bag accessory and comes with a detachable patty. To get the limited-time plushie, simply top up $6.90 when you order any Cheeseburger Melts ala carte or meal combo. The offer is available for delivery, takeaway or dine-in and while stocks last only. On May 11, Pizza Hut will also be hosting a Pizza Hut x Rurusama Fan Experience with cosplayer and content creator Rurusama. The 10-minute experience will take place at Pizza Hut Nex from 11am to 12pm and 5pm to 6pm — with Rurusama decked out in full Pizza Hut gear. To participate in the experience, purchase a bundle which includes one Sir Melts-a-Lot plushie, one Cheeseburger Melts Combo Meal, a live "cooking" performance and one solo photograph and signed polaroid with Rurusama. The experience is limited to the first 60 fans (30 fans per session) who pre-order and pay. Pre-orders for the Pizza Hut x Rurusama Fan Experience will be available on Pizza Hut Singapore's official website from May 5 and limited to one redemption per unique customer with each bundle purchased. For fans who can't manage to get a slot for the fan experience, there's an alternative bundle — the Rurusama Kitchen Experience — which will take place from 12pm to 2pm and 6pm to 8pm. During this experience, Rurusama will "cook" and pack Sir Melts-a-Lot plushies for takeaway. To take part in this one, just purchase Sir Melts-a-Lot ala carte for $6.90 in-store at Pizza Hut Nex on May 11 during event hours or get a Cheeseburger Melts Combo Meal and Sir Melts-a-Lot for $19.90. Terms and conditions apply. More information is available on Pizza Hut Singapore's social media platforms. [[nid:717452]]

Dwight Howard to be inducted into Orlando Magic Hall of Fame

ORLANDO, Fla. — A player who not too long ago was considered persona non grata by Orlando Magic fans because of his acrimonious departure 13 years ago will be welcomed back soon to the team's home arena with open arms. Dwight Howard, the best player on the franchise's 2008-09 Eastern Conference championship team and Orlando's career leader in total points, rebounds and blocks, will be inducted into the Magic's Hall of Fame later this month, team officials announced Thursday night. Advertisement The announcement was made on social media during the first quarter of the Magic's home game against the Chicago Bulls. Magic CEO Alex Martins said he believes Howard will receive a warm reception from Magic fans when he's inducted on March 24 and honored that night during the team's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Dwight Howard will become the 13th inductee into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame 🪄 Howard will be inducted on Monday, March 24 at 3:45 p.m. in Kia Center, near the Orlando Magic Fan Experience. — Orlando Magic (@OrlandoMagic) March 7, 2025 Martins added that the Magic are not the first team to welcome back a former star player who left on difficult terms. In fact, some previous inductees to the team's Hall of Fame — most notably, Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway — had caustic departures but now are viewed fondly by fans. O'Neal had his number retired by the Magic last year. 'It happens in most every franchise, particularly in those franchises where you have great players who depart on terms that fans are not comfortable with,' Martins said in an interview with The Athletic. 'I believe time heals those wounds, and at the end of the day, after that time has passed, there's an acknowledgment and an appreciation for the talent and the contributions that players make to a franchise during their time (with that franchise). 'And it's my opinion that Magic fans recognize Dwight was a leader on a team that was one of the two best eras in Magic history, the fact that he was on a team — some would say led a team — to the NBA Finals for one of only two times in Magic history. There's a great appreciation for that, and I think although fans see the departure with a sour taste, they look back on the fondness of the memories that were created while he was here and playing and recognize the greatness that there was.' Advertisement During his eight Magic seasons, Howard won three consecutive NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards and was a first-team All-NBA selection five straight times. At his best, he was so dominant that The Athletic ranked him 56th on its list of the 75 greatest NBA players of all time. He won the Magic's Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award for community service work six times. Howard was traded to the Lakers in 2012. The deal followed an acrimonious, public falling-out with team officials. The months-long soap opera captivated the NBA world and demoralized Magic fans. The most memorable moment occurred after a gameday shootaround, when coach Stan Van Gundy, in response to questions, told reporters that Howard wanted him fired. Then, in a surreal moment, Howard, unaware of what Van Gundy had just said minutes earlier, joined Van Gundy's question-and-answer session with reporters and put an arm around Van Gundy. When Howard was asked about wanting Van Gundy fired, Howard denied it. And, then, he was told what Van Gundy had just said. Howard's reputation took a massive hit. Howard once recalled, in an interview with ESPN, that the day of the news-conference incident was 'the worst day of my life.' In subsequent years, fans in Orlando often booed Howard when he returned to Kia Center as an opposing player, but that amount of vitriol receded as time wore on.

Historic 'ALS Super Auction' Unites NHL and all 32 Teams in Groundbreaking Effort to End ALS

NHL's Collective Power and Charitable Impact's Cause Fund Model Raise Over $300,000 for ALS Vancouver, British Columbia--(Newsfile Corp. - February 27, 2025) - What started as an ambitious dream—to unite the NHL and all its 32 teams in the fight against ALS—has become a historic reality. The ALS Super Fund, powered by Charitable Impact, has successfully wrapped up its auction, bringing together sports teams and fans in support of a shared cause. As the second event in the national "Courage to Fight: Together We #EndALS" campaign to raise awareness and funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research and equitable access to treatments, the auction raised over $109,000 in proceeds. Combined with the money raised during the campaign's first phase—a benefit concert—the total now exceeds $300,000. The driving force behind this initiative is Mark Kirton, former NHL player and ALS advocate, who has been fighting ALS since his diagnosis in 2018. Refusing to retreat, Kirton instead mobilized the hockey community, working with ALS Action Canada and Charitable Impact to create the ALS Super Fund-not just to support one charity, but to unite multiple organizations in the fight for a cure. Kirton's determination has inspired many within the NHL, including Jeff Jackson, President of the Edmonton Oilers, who stated: "I have been personally inspired for years by Mark Kirton's courage and relentless effort to bring awareness and financial support to the ALS community. Courage and conviction to teammates run deep in hockey. I consider Mark my teammate, and he has pulled me into this battle against ALS. I hope to help him bring the entire NHL community into this fight." The ALS Super Auction was about more than just signed jerseys and game experiences—it was about the power of collective action. In an incredible show of support, the NHL, together with the Boston Bruins dedicated two 50/50 draws to support ALS charities through the Super Fund, with over $30,000 in proceeds going directly to Boston-based organizations, including the Pete Frates Foundation-the catalyst behind the global Ice Bucket Challenge—and the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), a leader in ALS research. Kevin Moorhead, Director of Cause Funds at Charitable Impact, witnessed this collaboration firsthand. "Last week in Boston, I stood alongside 70 volunteers—Canadian and American—representing three different charities. I wore a Pete Frates Foundation cap and an ALS Super Fund t-shirt while standing beside a table promoting ALS TDI. The ALS Super Fund embodies that unity, allowing donors to support the cause without having to choose just one organization." While the auction has ended, the mission to end ALS continues. Donations to the ALS Super Fund remain open, ensuring ongoing support for leading ALS charities across North America.
