Harley-Davidson unveils new limited-production of its Fat Boy Gray Ghost model

In its fifth instalment of the Icons Motorcycle Collection, Harley-Davidson has introduced a new, limited production of the Fat Boy Gray Ghost Icons model to celebrate the 35th anniversary since its introduction of the Fat Boy. Image courtesy of Harley-Davidson. A cultural icon and one of the most recognisable bike designs — the Fat Boy Gray Ghost model is a superstar of motorcycle design now with a gleaming new Reflection finish that gives the entire motorcycle a look like its dipped in chrome. The Reflection finish is created using the physical vapor deposition (PVD) process, also known as a thin film coating, where a solid material is vaporised in a vacuum and deposited onto the surface of a part, which in this case is the fuel tank and motorcycle fenders. This is done by applying a positive charge to the solid material (an aluminium alloy) and a negative charge to the motorcycle part. After which, the part is painted with a standard clear coat finish. You will also find styling cues inspired by the original Fat Boy model such as a round air cleaner, yellow accents on the lower rocker covers, powertrain covers, and a tank console insert. Other details include a leather seat valance with lacing and tassels, and a black leather tank strap with laced edging. Three-dimensional fuel tank medallions replicate the iconic winged graphic from the original Fat Boy with a commemorative tank console insert etched with the bike's unique serialisation number and an Icons Collection medallion positioned on the rear fender. Lakester cast aluminium wheels, exclusive to the Fat Boy model, are also included in the reimagined bike, alongside high-performance Michelin Scorcher 11 tires to enhance the ride. In addition to the exterior design, the new Fat Boy Gray Ghost model includes elevated performance and technical features: Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom powertrain tuned to deliver 101 horsepower and 122 lb. ft. peak torque New Suspension that is recalibrated to optimise rider comfort Selectable Ride Modes such as Road, Rain, and Sport, which allows you to control the performance characteristic of the motorcycle Rider Safety Enhancements by Harley-Davidson All-LED Lighting including headlamp, tail and brake lights, and signals USB-C Power Port Heated Gear Connectors 5-inch Console Mounted instrument that places an analog speedometer above a multi-function LCD digital display . As the Icons Motorcycle Collection features a limited release of a new, fresh interpretation of an iconic motorcycle Harley-Davidson model, the bikes are serialised and may include additional features above the base motorcycle. The production of the Fat Boy Gray Ghost model is no different with a limited-production of 1,990 total motorcycles globally (a number that pays homage to the original 1990 Fat Boy). Product availability varies from market to market. For more information, you can enquire with local Harley-Davidson dealers.

Harley-Davidson delivers Fat Boy Gray Ghost

Harley-Davidson has just revealed the fifth instalment in the brand's limited-run Icons Motorcycle Collection. Known as the Fat Boy Gray Ghost, just 1990 units are being built. The number is a nod to the year the Fat Boy launched. Celebrating 35 years of the cruiser, the asking price is $NZ45,995. Visually, the Gray Ghost will turn heads. Harley's new Reflection finish makes it look as though the entire motorcycle has been sculpted from molten chrome. Achieved through a physical vapour deposition (PVD) process, this mirror-like effect hasn't previously been applied to components as large as the tank or fenders on a production Harley. The finish is said to be more corrosion-resistant than traditional chrome. Complementing the brightwork are chome covers and a bright silver powder-coated frame. Yellow accents on the engine and tank hark back to the original 1990 model's styling. Nostalgic touches include a tasselled leather seat, a black leather tank strap, and winged tank medallions. The original Fat Boy had these. Each unit is also individually numbered. Beneath the glitz lies Harley's Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine, good for 75kW and 171Nm of torque. Paired with a 2-into-2 exhaust, the set-up promises strong performance and a traditional V-twin rumble. The latest Fat Boy chassis has also undergone a number of enhancements, with recalibrated suspension and selectable ride modes (Road, Rain, Sport). Rider assistance safety features include Cornering ABS, Cornering Traction Control, and Drag Torque Slip Control. Check out our review of the 2024 H-D Road Glide here. Expect a better ride too with a recalibrated preload-adjustable rear shock. There's also a new USB-C port, and connectors for heated items are now more accessible. A five-inch analogue/digital instrument cluster clearly relays key data, while full LED lighting adds to road presence and visibility. The Gray Ghost rolls on Lakester disc wheels, exclusive to the Fat Boy, shod in Michelin Scorcher 11 rubber, 160mm up front and 240mm at the rear, for an imposing stance. As to the name, Fat Boy was chosen for its irreverent tone, a little self-deprecation from the brand that dared to be different. The model came to fame when Arnie pinched it and rode it off an LA overpass in Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Gray Ghost: Check out 5 key highlights of the iconic motorcycle

The Harley Davidson Fat Boy Gray Ghost gets a complete chrome treatment called the 'Reflection' finish. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of one of its most iconic cruisers, Harley-Davidson has unveiled the Fat Boy Gray Ghost, the latest addition to its Icons Motorcycle Collection. This limited-edition model pays homage to the legendary 1990 Fat Boy while infusing it with modern engineering, premium features, and striking aesthetics. With only 1,990 units being produced worldwide, the Gray Ghost is designed for collectors, Harley loyalists, and cruiser enthusiasts alike. Here are the five key highlights that make this motorcycle stand out: 2 Retro design The Gray Ghost stands out visually thanks to its distinctive 'Reflection' finish, a high-gloss, chrome-like surface achieved using Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD). This method not only delivers a mirror-like aesthetic but also offers excellent durability and corrosion resistance, making it ideal for large surfaces like the tank and fenders. Harley-Davidson has infused the bike with several retro design elements that pay homage to the original. The frame is powder-coated in silver, while chrome side covers and yellow accents on engine components echo the look of the 1990 model. The design also includes a tasselled leather seat valance with laces, a black leather tank strap with laced edges, and classic winged tank medallions, all reminiscent of the original Fat Boy's styling. 3 Technology Despite its vintage appeal, the Gray Ghost is fully modern in its features. It comes with a new 5-inch console-mounted instrument panel that combines an analogue speedometer with a multifunction LCD display, allowing riders to cycle through ride data using handlebar-mounted controls. The bike features LED lighting throughout, including the headlamp, tail lamp, brake lights, and indicators. It also includes a USB-C charging port for faster charging and data transfer. For added convenience, the connectors for heated gear have been relocated underneath the seat for easier access. Safety and ride control are enhanced with systems such as Cornering ABS, Cornering Traction Control, Drag Torque Slip Control, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Additionally, the Gray Ghost offers three ride modes, Road, Rain and Sport, which adjust throttle response and electronic intervention to suit various riding conditions. 4 Engine and exhaust At the heart of the Gray Ghost lies the Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-Twin engine, producing 101 bhp and 171 Nm of peak torque. This marks a 7 per cent increase in power and a 3 per cent rise in torque over the outgoing Fat Boy 114. The engine features refined four-valve heads, reworked combustion chambers, and new oval intake ports, resulting in improved performance, smoother response, and better fuel efficiency. The 2-into-2 exhaust system adds a deep and resonant tone to the bike, engineered to reduce high-frequency noise and amplify low-end growl. Engine cooling is managed by an oil circulation system that passes through a frame-mounted cooler and cylinder head passages, making it more efficient during low-speed or high-temperature riding. 5 Comfort and handling Comfort and control are key to the cruiser experience, and the Fat Boy Gray Ghost delivers both. The front suspension uses 49 mm dual-bending valve forks that improve damping and help maintain road contact across varied surfaces. At the rear, a hydraulic preload-adjustable mono-shock under the seat allows easy adjustments to match rider load or terrain. The Gray Ghost rides on Lakester cast aluminium wheels, exclusive to the Fat Boy range, and comes fitted with wide Michelin Scorcher 11 tires—160/60 R18 at the front and 240/40 R18 at the rear—ensuring confident grip and a muscular stance. Braking is handled by a 300 mm front disc with a 4-piston fixed calliper and a 292 mm rear disc with a 2-piston floating calliper, offering reliable and balanced stopping power. 2025 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Gray Ghost: All You Need To Know

Last Updated: The bike uses the softail chassis from the standard Fat Boy and features a Showa front fork and a hidden rear monoshock for a smooth ride. Harley-Davidson has introduced the 2025 Fat Boy Gray Ghost, a limited-edition model that pays tribute to the original 1990 Fat Boy. This bike shot to fame after its appearance in the action-packed film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. This special edition joins Harley-Davidson's Icons Motorcycle Collection, a line-up that revives legendary models using modern technology and design. Only 1,990 units of the Gray Ghost will be made globally, as per Autocar. What sets the Gray Ghost apart is its highly reflective, mirror-like finish, achieved through a high-tech process called Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD). Unlike regular chrome, this finish offers stronger corrosion resistance and a much richer shine. Furthermore, it also gets subtle yellow accents on the engine inserts, tank console, and trims – a stylish reference to the original 1990 model's design. The bike proudly retains the Fat Boy's signature silhouette, thanks to its round air cleaner, solid disc wheels, and wide front forks. Powering the Gray Ghost is a 1,923cc V-twin engine that produces 101 bhp at 4,800rpm and a solid 166 Nm of torque at 3,000rpm. The bike uses the Softail chassis, the same as the standard Fat Boy, along with a Showa front fork and a hidden rear monoshock. Other features include a low 655mm seat height, wide handlebars, and forward-set foot controls. The motorcycle also includes LED lights, a semi-digital display, and keyless ignition. The 2025 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Gray Ghost is priced at $25,399 (around Rs 21.2 lakh) in the US. While Harley-Davidson hasn't confirmed if it will launch in India, the extremely limited production suggests only a few might arrive via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route.
