FOKANA founding president remembered for research and service
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday remembered M Anirudhan, founding president of the Federation of Kerala Associations in North America (FOKANA) and businessman, who passed away in July, calling him an outstanding researcher, industrialist, and a voice of NRI Malayalis. Speaking at a government-organised remembrance meeting, he praised Anirudhan's lifelong attachment to the country. He noted that Anirudhan's pioneering contributions to nutrition research and the development of dietary supplements had earned him global recognition. 'He was not only a brilliant researcher and teacher but also a visionary industrialist,' he said. Pinarayi also highlighted Anirudhan's close ties with Kerala, recalling his role in raising NRI issues with the state government. 'He consistently stood by the diaspora and helped bring their concerns to our attention. His demise is a great loss to the country and to Malayalis across the world,' he added. Minister V Sivankutty, Congress leaders M M Hassan and K C Joseph, industrialist Yusuffali M A, and senior government officials also paid tribute. Anirudhan's son Arun said that his father always maintained warm relationships across communities and political affiliations.

M. Anirudhan remembered
Dr. M. Anirudhan remembrance meeting was held here on Tuesday with speakers paying tributes to the industrialist and director of NoRKA Roots, who recently passed away. Delivering the keynote talk at the meeting, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said he had been maintaining good relations with the founding president of FOKANA (Federation of Kerala Associations in North America), a leading Malayali organisation in North America. He used to accompany the Chief Minister whenever he visited the US. 'During my last visit, he was unable to come due to poor health, and I had visited him in Chicago,' he remembered. A native of Oachira in Kollam, He was a member of the Loka Kerala Sabha since its beginning and played a key role in coordinating support for Kerala during the COVID-19 period and the floods. Dr Anirudhan was also honoured with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman.

Entries invited for Bhashakkoru Dollar award
Kerala University has invited applications for the Bhashakkoru Dollar award instituted in association with the Federation of Kerala Associations in North America (FOKANA). The award is presented to the best Ph.D. dissertation in Malayalam language or literature submitted at any university in Kerala. Those who have been awarded PhD between two specific periods: from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023; and from December 1, 2023, to November 30, 2024, are eligible to apply. The award includes a cash prize of ₹50,000, a certificate and a plaque. The supervising guide of the winning dissertation will receive a cash award of ₹5,000. Applicants must submit their dissertation certified by their guide, along with one hard copy and a CD version of the dissertation within 5 p.m. on July 7. Further details can be obtained from
