Feds Issue Urgent Warning To Volvo Owners With Hybrids And EVs From 2020-2026

Feds Issue Urgent Warning To Volvo Owners With Hybrids And EVs From 2020-2026 originally appeared on Autoblog. Electrified Volvos Don't Stop As They Should Safety issues stemming from recalls are not uncommon, and even the company that invented the seatbelt occasionally has to improve on things that it didn't get right, like the common rearview camera issue plaguing many. Thanks to over-the-air software updates, many of these issues can often be resolved without a trip to the dealership. But there's only so much one can do when the owners themselves don't take advantage, and that's why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is issuing an urgent warning to Volvo owners after the majority of them impacted by a recall last month have still not availed themselves of the fix. If you have a hybrid or all-electric Volvo and haven't already done so, please stop driving until you've downloaded the update. Complete Loss Of Braking Could Occur The NHTSA says that Volvo issued recall 25V-392 on June 12, with the goal of addressing a regenerative braking issue that, left unchecked, could cause an affected vehicle to "completely lose its ability to brake while going downhill." Volvo advised owners to turn off regenerative braking and avoid driving their cars until the recall was downloaded, but of the 11,469 vehicles impacted by this recall, approximately 1,000 still hadn't performed the update by July 15. The affected vehicles, including some of the latest 2026 models, are listed below: 2023 C40 BEV 2025 EC40 BEV 2025-2026 EX40 PHEV 2023-2025 S60 PHEV 2025 S90 PHEV 2024-2025 V60 PHEV 2023-2024 XC40 BEV 2022-2026 XC60 PHEV 2020-2026 XC90 PHEV One Incident Captured On Video Reveals The Danger To highlight just how important this recall is, the NHTSA has uploaded a dashcam clip of an owner experiencing the issue, which nearly resulted in a severe crash. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but had this happened after dark or in another place, or with cyclists or pedestrians nearby, things could have been a lot worse, especially given the weight of cars with charging ports. Unfortunately for Volvo, alongside the rearview camera issue mentioned at the outset, owner reports of glitches in other areas have some buyers reconsidering. Worse still, the automaker has been forced to drastically cut its U.S. lineup because of the impact of tariffs. Donald Trump's ‘Never met Epstein' claim gets jazzed up — viral video trolls him with 750K+ views and counting

Donald Trump's controversial handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case has prompted many of his critics to capitalize on the scandal and satirize the United States president's perceived flip-flopping on the issue. Among the critics taking aim at Trump is Jeremy Newberger, who's a part of the Ironbound Films production crew and has been posting AI-generated political satire on the YouTube channel Mr. Newberger's AI Funnies. His 1930's-inspired jazz music video 'Releasing the Files' has garnered over 750,000 views on YouTube and it tears into Donald Trump's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the administration's constant moving of the goalposts on the investigation, and Trump's recent attempts to bury all discussion on the matter. All the while, the song mocks Trump's attempts to distance himself from the infamous sex trafficker with the refrain that he 'never met Epstein or touched any teens'. Newberger's other viral hits, all of them also trolling Trump, include 'Taco Taco Taco', 'When the Tariff Comes' and 'No Kings'. Jeremy Newberger's 'Releasing the Files' tears into Trump Newberger's AI-generated jazz music video openly mocks the talking points trotted out by Donald Trump and his supporters throughout his second term. Early into his second presidency, Trump and his administration had hyped up the release of the Epstein files, only to move the goalposts and disappoint the supporters who expected them to release anything substantial. As the music video nears its end, its lyrics mirror Trump's own attempts to get everyone to stop talking about the case, with the song eventually warning that Trump will send the military and Feds after anyone who manages to actually get the files released because his name is probably in them. When discussing the Jeffrey Epstein case on X, Newberger has made no secret of his belief that Donald Trump really is a pedophile and sexual predator who's trying to cover his tracks, with one tweet explicitly calling Trump a 'kid toucher'. FWIW, you can still wear MAGA hats, believe in stronger borders, hate on abortions, preach lower taxes, all while prosecuting Trump for crimes. Your party can survive with leadership from folks other than just the guy who got you enthusiastic. Especially if he was a kid toucher. Newberger has also discussed Epstein on the Generation Exile podcast While Newberger's AI music video has been a runaway success, it isn't the only time he's publicly discussed the Jeffrey Epstein case. On July 17, Newberger, along with his high school friends Dave Eagle and Michael Romanelli, discussed the Jeffrey Epstein case on the Generation Exile podcast. There, Newberger and the others talked about the uncomfortable position many of Donald Trump's backers such as Marjorie Taylor-Greene were in, given that they'd hailed him as an anti-Epstein crusader only for his administration to claim that there was no client list to be found. Despite all this, they believed that most of Trump's supporters would stick by him, because they likened his base to a "cult". Doubt over DOJ's Epstein disclosure: Letters to the Editor — July 17, 2025

The Issue: The Justice Department stating that Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide and didn't keep a client list. We have a minute of tape missing from the camera recording Jeffrey Epstein's cell, a sordid cover-up story that President Trump's crusaders had hoped would be exposed before the election and a client list that was said to exist but suddenly does not ('Feds butting heads,' July 12). Epstein's former lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, stated that he knows there are names of the accused and the accusers. We already know Epstein was a pervert, but we should be told who else was involved. This is an administration that supposedly believes in disclosure, so let's have it. Betsy Flor Putnam Valley At no time during her swearing-in ceremony did Attorney General Pam Bondi ever promise to protect and defend President Trump from rumors, innuendos or speculations about his involvement with Epstein. Her duty is to protect and defend Americans. As Richard Nixon once said: People have a right to know 'whether or not their president is a crook.' Likewise, people today have the right to know if our current leader is a pervert. After all, Trump was found guilty of sexually abusing at least one woman in a civil case. Even MAGA nation would like to know Trump's connection to the deceased trafficker of underage women. Bob Ory Chicago, Ill. The problem with the release of the findings of Epstein case is that Trump campaigned on releasing the 'client list.' So, it created hysteria in the conspiracy club, and now these people who have believed something for so long cannot believe they've wasted so much of their time. It's the same for those with Trump Derangement Syndrome. It won't matter if Trump is sainted — he is still the devil to those who fervently believe it. James Schwartz Summit, NJ Epstein was the ultimate insider — connected to politicians, billionaires, royals, scientists and media moguls. When a man with that much dirt on the global elite dies in custody, it doesn't look like suicide. It looks like a message: Talk, and you die. Now, the fight over the existence of a client list is dividing MAGA. Some want transparency, no matter where it leads. Others seem more interested in political convenience. The American people deserve the truth. Who protected Epstein for so long? Who wanted him permanently silenced? Jagjit Singh Los Altos, Calif. Adding to the Epstein drama is FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who threatened to resign over the matter. He needs to tell us why. Bondi, in return, needs to provide more context about the matter at large. She owes more to the public, and Trump should see the imbalance as well. Phil Serpico, Queens The Issue: Gov. Gavin Newsom's criticism of Vice President J.D. Vance during his visit to Disneyland. I find Gov. Gavin Newsom's behavior frankly appalling and disappointing ('Mickey Mouse Dem meanies,' Kirsten Fleming, July 15). He thinks attacking the vice president's family on vacation at Disneyland is appropriate, but I hear crickets from him regarding the minors found working on the 'farm' that was recently raided in Camarillo, Calif. He is so disconnected from reality when it comes to the abused and indentured kids who came across the border, yet I daresay his supporters will continue to cheer him on. Amy Hendel Tarzana, Calif. I find it ironic that Newsom would talk about breaking up families in his post on X about the vice president. He carried on an affair with a married woman, which led to a divorce. James Lautier Windsor, Conn. Want to weigh in on today's stories? Alternative Grass Grub Weapon Now Urgent

Federated Farmers says urgent action is needed to plug a looming gap in treatments to fight native grass grub, which costs the agricultural sector hundreds of millions of dollars each year. "This is our biggest agricultural pest by a country mile, yet there's a real risk farmers' arsenal to fight it will soon be empty," Feds biosecurity spokesperson David Birkett says. "It's pleasing that manufacturers have work developing new chemicals underway. "We also need the Environmental Protection Authority to prioritise and fast-track their assessment of any new options." Costelytra giveni is a scourge for pasture and lawn, and also a risk to horticulture and native plant root systems. The two most effective chemicals to control the grub - chlorpyrifos and Diazanon - are both being phased out after decisions by the EPA to ban them. Chlorpyrifos, a broad-spectrum organophosphate insecticide, is banned in the European Union and Canada, and its use is heavily restricted in Australia. It is in the process of being phased out internationally via the Stockholm Convention, of which New Zealand is a signatory. The EPA recently consulted on banning chlorpyrifos here. After considering new information, and holding a public hearing, a decision-making committee found risks to people and the environment - especially to those spraying it - outweighed the benefits. "We're pleased the EPA listened carefully to our submission, and decided that for the agricultural sector, the ban would come at the end of an 18-month phase-out period," Birkett says. "However, stocks of chlorpyrifos are already very limited and in the face of bans, manufacturers are taking it out of production." The other potent weapon for combating grass grub, Diazanon, will also be banned from 2028. Federated Farmers understands AgResearch and ag chem companies are well underway with developing a new tool for combatting grass grub. "We'd really like to see them accelerate that development work. It would be disastrous for food production and our agricultural exports if our farmers are left high and dry for any period without an effective control method," Birkett says. A 2018 study said native scarab grass grub causes losses of up to $380 million on dairy farms and $205 million on sheep and beef farmers every year - and that was with access to chlorpyrifos. Birkett says the EPA also needs to play its role swiftly. "Federated Farmers has been critical of the EPA's failure to get on top of a backlog of assessment applications for agri-chemicals and animal health treatments. "We've welcomed Government announcements on new measures aimed at streamlining assessment processes, particularly in cases where chemicals are already being used safety in other countries. "But the the EPA also needs to adjust its priorities and not focus on assessing generic chemicals that are already available," Birkett says. "Their work stream needs to take better account of how far off approvals are for effective replacement products, including biosecurity and pest increase issues, and how much delays would cost the country. "The new chemicals that offer the greatest economic benefits should get priority in the queue - and I would put any new treatment for grass grub in that category," Birkett says.

Yen weakens past 147 as us-japan trade tensions escalate

The Japanese yen slid below 147 per dollar on Wednesday, logging its third straight daily loss amid rising tensions in US-Japan trade talks. The latest rift centers on Japans protection of its rice market, drawing criticism from the US. President Trump announced a 25% tariff on Japanese goods, effective August 1, firmly ruling out any delays or revisions. The US Dollar Index remained resilient above 97, supported by investor confidence and stronger demand for the greenback. The dollar made its biggest gains against the yen, as Tokyo faces growing pressure to finalize a trade deal with Washington. All eyes are now on the FOMC minutes, expected to offer more clarity on the Feds policy path.
