This historically significant vehicle, which finished fifth overall and claimed a GT class podium at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, sold for an impressive $9,465,000. This sale not only marked a record for Broad Arrow but also underscored the car's rarity and esteemed competition history. Other notable sales included a 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV that fetched $4,460,000 and a 1954 Jaguar D-Type "OKV 2" Works Competition, which went for $4,295,000. The auction also featured a 2018 Pagani Huayra Roadster that sold for $3,415,000 and a 1990 Ferrari F40 that brought in $3,665,000. Barney Ruprecht, Senior Car Specialist and Vice-President of Auctions for Broad Arrow, expressed satisfaction with the event's outcome, noting the spirited bidding and high-quality offerings. He highlighted the continued strength of the Porsche market and the success of other categories, indicating a healthy interest across various segments of the classic car market. For the fourth time in 30 years, rain affected the Amelia Island Concours, but not too badly. With Sunday a washout, organizers moved the big concours day to Saturday. Only the Cars and Community had to be canceled. They'll be back next year. There were 275 cars on the field. 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta taking part in the Eight Flags Road Tour presented by ReliableCarriers traveled through some of the most beautiful scenery and interesting driving roads of the Amelia Island area. Broad Arrow, a subsidiary of Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY), recently released a video showcasing the historic Ferrari in action, featuring Barney Ruprecht, the company's Senior Car Specialist and Vice-President of Auctions. The video provides a firsthand look at the car's performance capabilities and its unique competition-focused upgrades, including an aluminum body, stiffer suspension, and a 36-gallon long-range fuel tank. 'This is one of only 10 Competizione variants built, with every detail optimized for racing,' Ruprecht said in the video. 'From the moment you start it, the experience is dominated by the engine—it's a completely different beast compared to a standard California Spider.' Chassis no. 1451 GT has a storied past, having placed fifth overall at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans under the ownership of American privateer Bob Grossman. The car continued its racing career in the United States before eventually becoming a prized collector's piece. Presented in its original silver metallic Le Mans livery, the Ferrari comes with Ferrari Classiche certification and has made multiple appearances at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The California Spider leads an impressive lineup at the Amelia Auction, where 166 collector cars will be offered, alongside two tractors and a child's go-kart.
