Five assessed after house fire on Sherburn Street

Fire and paramedic crews responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of Sherburn Street on Sunday evening. At 5:27 p.m., Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews arrived to find smoke coming from the home. All occupants had evacuated before firefighters got to the scene. Crews brought the fire under control by 5:59 p.m. Paramedics assessed five people at the scene. No one was taken to hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates were not immediately available.

Man in his 80s dead after SUV rollover in Winnipeg parking garage

A man is dead after the SUV he was driving rolled over in a Winnipeg parking garage on Tuesday evening. Winnipeg police were called to the garage on Paget Street near Sterling Lyon Parkway, in the city's southwest area, around 7:45 p.m. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service extracted the driver and a woman who was a passenger, both in their 80s, police said in a news release Wednesday. The man was taken in critical condition to hospital, where he later died, police said. The woman was taken to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. (Owen Swinn/CTV News) A house fire in Winnipeg's North Point Douglas neighbourhood is causing Friday morning road closures in the area. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was first called to the blaze in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue just before 5 a.m. Traffic is blocked on Euclid. Drivers are asked to avoid the area. Images from the scene show crews working to extinguish the fire, as well as damage to the exterior of the home. CTV News has reached out to the City of Winnipeg for more information.

1 sent to hospital after vehicle fire burns about 2 hectares in Winnipeg

A person was rushed to hospital after a vehicle caught on fire and spread, burning about two hectares in Winnipeg on Friday. Winnipeg's Fire Paramedic Service were called to the fire at around 9:46 a.m. on the 2200 block of Main Street near Winnipeg's Water Pollution Control Centre in the city's north. First responders were told the fire was spreading quickly into the grass and a person might have been trapped inside the vehicle, the city said in a news release Friday. The city said two people got out of the vehicle, and one of them was assessed before being taken to hospital in unstable condition. Firefighters used handlines and wildland firefighting equipment to put out the blaze that spread through about two hectares. The fire remains under investigation.
