Chip & Joanna Gaines Share Rare Comment About Struggling During Their Marriage
Chip & Joanna Gaines Share Rare Comment About Struggling During Their Marriage originally appeared on Parade. Home design experts are opening up about their 22-year-long marriage. Swooon Magazine reported that the couple discussed how they navigated challenges in their relationship during a July 2025 interview on the Stronger Podcast. Joanna shared that she and her husband had "non-negotiables from day one" even when they "were struggling for the first 12 years of [their] marriage." She referenced that she and Chip had a shop called The Little Shop on Bosque, which opened 10 years before their first HGTV show, Fixer Upper, premiered in 2013. Joanna, who shares five children with Chip, explained that having a business at the start of their marriage was financially and emotionally stressful. "Like every Friday was like, 'Well, is this when we close our doors [of The Little Shop on Bosque]?' Every day we showed up, it was like, 'Well, if this all goes away, we still have each other,'" said Joanna. Joanna then said her and Chip's decision to prioritize each other has been helpful as they've navigated fame while raising a family. "So that was the core and the foundation of who we are, who we were, and then now we have these five babies," said the Mini Reni star. "Every decision we make, we say, 'How will this affect this?'" Chip also said he would be fine with stepping away from the spotlight, as long as his family was by his side. 'As I think about fame and success and money in comparison to my marriage and my family… [If] all of this would instantly go away, and my wife and my kids would be back on the farm, raising animals, we'd be a part of the FFA," said Chip during the podcast interview. "Who knows what would happen next? But Jo and I, we believe we can have our cake and eat it too in the sense that I can be successful and I can have a healthy marriage and family.' Joanna shared how they've kept the romance alive in their relationship during a March 2025 interview with Us Weekly. She said she and her husband have recently strengthened their bond by taking the time to exercise together, either at their home gym or at dance classes. 'There's really no shortage of us doing things together. But what I've loved most about this new rhythm of working out together is that it's new and different for us, but it's also been interesting to see that the way we show up for each other in our little garage gym is the same way we always have at the office, or with a new project," said Joanna to Us Weekly. Bye-Bye Eyesores: 38 Things That'll Make Your Home Feel Way More Put Together
A sleek and ~sneaky~ shoe-storage cabinet for your entryway so a shoe pile isn't the first thing you see when you walk through the door. Bonus: it'll serve as a gorgeous piece of decor with plenty of room for essentials on top! A faux book display to conceal messy outlets, cables, and other eyesores for a clean, organized vibe. You won't mind having everyone comment on your impressive book collection either. A slim storage cart with locking wheels — it's perfect for areas with limited space, like bathrooms, laundry rooms, etc. that desperately need more storage without causing more clutter to gawk at. A large woven storage basket that'll be a lovely addition to the corner of any room *and* it's perfect for hiding odds and ends you don't want strewn about, like your massive blanket and throw pillow collection that never seems to stop growing, for example. A bamboo shelf with a tilt-out hamper — does anyone really enjoy having a hamper that sticks out like a sore thumb? This saves space, conceals it, *and* gives you a couple of storage shelves, too. Brick whitewash paint to make it look like your home was just featured on an episode of Fixer Upper. This can turn a painful eyesore into a stunning focal point, so what are you waiting for?? A cable organizer box featuring a ventilated design that'll protect your peace and conceal the god-awful mess! It has three rear entry/exit points so you can run your cables into it from ALL angles. Plus, an under-desk cable management tray if you really want to get serious about hiding your cables. This will keep all those cords dangling behind your desk organized *and* hidden. Some concrete paint that'll give your dull, depressing floors the refresh they deserve. It'll require some elbow grease, but the jaw-dropping before and after photos alone will be worth it. A litter box enclosure because as much as you love your kitto, you could probably do without a litter box in the middle of the room. This will serve as a piece of furniture *and* decor while hiding the litter box you love to hate. A wipe-on finish restorer to make tired, worn-out furniture look brand new again. You should probably buy this stuff before your evil glare burns a hole in that piece of furniture that simply needs a refresher. Or for smaller jobs, a set of wood repair markers so you can get rid of those scuffs and scratches. This quick and easy DIY fix will have your stuff lookin' flawless in no time. A faux ivy privacy screen for the eyesores you have little control over, like your neighbor's messy backyard. Put this up to beautify your space *and* hide the chaos ruining your view. Under-bed storage bags when it's time to say goodbye to seasonal items (for now, anyway). You'll be able to store bulky items out of sight where they belong. If you already make a habit of shoving stuff under the bed to hide it, at least this will keep it somewhat organized. And while you're at it, a pleated bed skirt to hide all the stuff you're storing under your bed because who wants to see that?? This neat and tidy solution will blend in with the room seamlessly. A TV cord cover — you didn't do ALL that work of mounting your very expensive television just to have the aesthetic ruined with a mess of cords. This cover basically *becomes* part of the wall, so you'll have to squint to spot it. A mini bottle of touch-up paint that'll mask any unsightly scuff marks or scratches around your home. Use it on your walls, furniture, cabinets, etc. It's no wonder renters love this stuff. And when all else fails, a gallon of self-priming paint so you can redo the wall that requires more than a few touchups. It's made without toxic solvents so it won't stink up the entire room. If you're not sure about committing to a full gallon, you can grab a single-color swatch for just $3! A mid-century starburst chandelier bound to turn heads when anyone enters the room in *the* best way. If you've been looking for a piece of decor to tie your space together and replace that old shabby chandelier that's hanging by a thread, the search is officially over. An electric pressure washer for tackling all the dirty surfaces around your property you hate to look at. This heavy-duty washer can clean decks, fences, and driveways. It comes with a garden hose adapter, so you can start cleaning up your outdoor area ASAP! And a semi-transparent deck and stain stealer because it only makes sense to lock in all the hard work you just did. Wood surfaces will be stained, sealed, and protected from the harsh elements for the foreseeable future. It'll be so sleek and shiny, you won't be able to take your eyes off it, but in a GOOD way! A flat outlet plug that'll turn bulky, cluttered outlets into a distant memory. Your room will look wayyy more put together when you swap it out for this sleek outlet plug. Tbh, you might even cringe thinking of how long you allowed yourself to live with that mess on display. A clever decorative box with a hinged lid — it'll come in handy for concealing odds and ends while helping you keep track of the things that always seem to get misplaced. Think remotes, glasses, pillcases, and so on. Some modern pendant lights to replace the awful ones you've been holding a secret grudge against for years. You'll actually enjoy looking at these, and your guests will never stop complimenting them. And a recessed light conversion kit so you can bid farewell to the ugly canned lighting in your home and say hello to some luxurious pendant lights instead! When you're done, you can even paint it to blend in with your existing decor so the eyesore factor = handled. A sneaky slide-out trash can because who wants their garbage to be the first thing guests see upon entering the kitchen? Not you, that's who!! Once it's installed, you'll feel much better knowing your trash is nowhere to be seen. A roll of toilet sealant tape if you have no intention of picking up a tube of caulk in this lifetime or the next. This self-adhesive tape is flexible and will put such a nice finishing touch on your porcelain throne that you actually won't mind looking at it! A vinyl transition floor strip for that one threshold in your home that makes you roll your eyes whenever you see it. This will make the transition between rooms and flooring look much more natural. A magical oil stain remover that'll help bring your driveway and paved walkways back to their original glory days. Simply apply the formula, allow it to dry, then brush it away to reveal a stain-free surface! Some switch plate covers so you can ~switch~ up all the boring white and beige ones that are currently plaguing your home. You're welcome! Ceiling-mount shelves when your storage situation is dismal at best and you don't have any room for more furniture. Enter these brilliant shelves that will remain (mostly) out of sight without taking up any valuable floor space! A macramé tapestry to hide that unsightly electrical panel that makes you want to scream whenever you lay eyes on it. Problem solved! A bottle of metallic spray paint for reviving metal fixtures and decor items that have seen better days. Your old dingy doorknobs, faucets, and light fixtures don't stand a chance. A privacy screen that'll conceal those outdoor monstrosities you hate the most — you know, pool equipment, garbage cans, air conditioning units, and anything else that diminishes your curb appeal. A ~handy~ sink soap dispenser tube kit because that ugly plastic bottle from the dollar store is not doing anything for your kitchen's aesthetic. You'll have one less slippery bottle near the sink *and* you'll have to refill this less often. A decorative air vent cover if you love almost everything about your home — except for the eyesore of a vent that angers you whenever you walk by it. This simple, affordable upgrade requires hardly any effort and will totally transform the look of a room! Some flexible baseboard trim for that one area in your home that has been seriously neglected and you're finally ready to do something about it. A clean, sleek baseboard can do wonders for a room, so why not add your own? A waterproof *and* weather-proof outdoor storage box to store anything you don't want scattered across the lawn, like cushions, kids' toys, and pool supplies. It's durable enough to withstand the elements and big enough to hide yard clutter!

Joanna Gaines Just Shared a Glimpse Into Her Family's Dreamy Beach Vacation
This summer, Joanna Gaines and family have proven that they're absolutely vacation goals. The interior designer-turned-television star shared a handful of photos on Instagram from her recent beach trip and from the looks of it, Gaines and family had the coziest time in their temporary tropical oasis. According to the location tag Gaines used for her post, the family was vacationing in Sayulita, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. Given that Sayulita isn't as popular as bigger tourist destinations like Playa del Carmen or Puerto Vallarta, the Gaines fam likely enjoyed an intimate vacay in the quaint beach town, which has become a popular surf destination. In the photos uploaded to social media, the Fixer Upper host can be seen taking full advantage of the beach home's infinity pool, which is mere feet away from the beach. One image shows her striking an impressive yoga pose at the edge of the pool and in another she can be seen taking a refreshing dip in the pool. The Gaines also noshed on authentic Mexican fare like fresh salsa and guacamole, played Spades, and enjoyed the occasional stroll down the beach. After the vacation photos were uploaded, fans of Gaines and her family were quick to show their support. "Imagine hating on them and they are doing yoga on the beach 😂," one of them wrote. "we love an unbothered queen," read another comment. Other fans commented on how deserving the family is of a little R&R. "Hope you have many moments of peace and joy. Well earned. I'm a fan of how creative, hard working, and authentic you are. ❤️," said one person. Chip Gaines responds to criticism about ‘Back to the Frontier' casting
Chip and Joanna Gaines are responding to backlash over the latest show in their media empire. Chip Gaines took to social media on Sunday to defend their new Magnolia Network reality series, 'Back to the Frontier.' The show drew criticism from some Christian conservatives for featuring a gay couple, Jason Hanna and Joe Riggs. 'Talk, ask [questions], listen.. maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge 1st, understand later/never,' Gaines wrote on his X account. 'It's a sad sunday when 'non believers' have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian [broken heart emoji].' The post came in response to comments from Franklin Graham, the son of the legendary evangelical pastor Billy Graham. 'It is very disappointing,' Graham wrote on X of the casting. 'While we are to love people, we should love them enough to tell them the truth of God's Word. His Word is absolute truth. God loves us, and His design for marriage is between one man and one woman. Promoting something that God defines as sin is in itself sin.' Gaines and his wife have built off the success of their HGTV show 'Fixer Upper' to build several other businesses, such as a line of home goods. Their partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, which is owned by CNN's parent company, resulted in the launch of the Magnolia Network in 2022. The new show features three families attempting to live like homesteading pioneers in the 1880s without modern day conveniences, including electricity. Hanna told Queerty he and Riggs, who are parents of 10-year-old twins, welcomed the 'amazing opportunity to normalize same-sex couples and same-sex families.' 'I'm super honored that when they were choosing three modern-day families, they did choose a same-sex couple as a modern-day family, because we are,' said Hanna, who also shared that when he first saw the flyer advertising the forthcoming series on social media it featured a gay couple. 'We are your neighbors and your coworkers.' 'Back to the Frontier' airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on Magnolia Network and streams on HBO Max.
