Fleadh hitchhikers score a lift with GAA legend
Two Fleadh-bound pals got more than just a lift when they stuck out their thumbs on a busy roadside – they hitched a ride with none other than seven-time All-Ireland winner and GAA legend, Eoghan O'Gara. Brandon Cassidy and a friend were stranded in Curracloe as taxi demand skyrocketed during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2025. Left with no other option, they decided to hitch a lift into Wexford Town. Meanwhile, Fleadh Cheoil 2025 is lighting up Wexford this week with music, crowds, and even a surprise performance by Ed Sheeran, who dropped by for a few impromptu sets – a nod to his strong Wexford roots.

Fleadh hitchhikers unexpectedly nab lift with seven-time All-Ireland winner
A couple of hitchhikers were left pleasantly surprised when they managed to nab a lift with seven-time All-Ireland champion Eoghan O'Gara en route to the Fleadh in Wexford. Brandon Cassidy and his pal were stuck for a lift into Wexford Town from Curracloe due to the high demand for taxis. With Fleadh Cheoil 2025 taking place, they reverted to thumbing a lift roadside. Fortunately for the pair, they not only grabbed a lift but also shared the car with GAA legend Eoghan O'Gara. "No taxis to be got in Wexford, thumbing a lift from Curracloe to Wexford town for the fleadh. Brandon wrote on social media. O'Gara was part of the great Dublin team of the 2010s and won seven All-Ireland titles, from 2011 to his retirement in 2019, when Dublin completed the historic five-in-a-row and was ever-present in the Dublin panel at that time. He was the first substitute used in their 2011 All-Ireland win and also started in the 2017 final, a classic against Mayo. A regular feature for club Templeogue Synge Street, O'Gara transferred to Wexford club Shelmaliers and ended up winning a county title in 2023. He now lives in the county with his family. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2025 takes place in Wexford between August 3rd and August 10th, and thousands are expected to flock to Wexford for the festivities. Pop sensation Ed Sheeran unexpectedly turned up at the festival, where he performed several sets. He has strong Wexford roots.
