Fleadh hitchhikers unexpectedly nab lift with seven-time All-Ireland winner
Brandon Cassidy and his pal were stuck for a lift into Wexford Town from Curracloe due to the high demand for taxis. With Fleadh Cheoil 2025 taking place, they reverted to thumbing a lift roadside.
Fortunately for the pair, they not only grabbed a lift but also shared the car with GAA legend Eoghan O'Gara.
"No taxis to be got in Wexford, thumbing a lift from Curracloe to Wexford town for the fleadh. Chanced our arm with this man, not knowing who he was, 10 minutes into the car journey, he says his name. Didn't know were after jumping into the car with 7 time all Ireland winner. Gent!!" Brandon wrote on social media.
O'Gara was part of the great Dublin team of the 2010s and won seven All-Ireland titles, from 2011 to his retirement in 2019, when Dublin completed the historic five-in-a-row and was ever-present in the Dublin panel at that time. He was the first substitute used in their 2011 All-Ireland win and also started in the 2017 final, a classic against Mayo.
A regular feature for club Templeogue Synge Street, O'Gara transferred to Wexford club Shelmaliers and ended up winning a county title in 2023. He now lives in the county with his family.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2025 takes place in Wexford between August 3rd and August 10th, and thousands are expected to flock to Wexford for the festivities. Pop sensation Ed Sheeran unexpectedly turned up at the festival, where he performed several sets. He has strong Wexford roots.

Ger Brennan appointed as new Dublin manager on three year term
Ger Brennan has been appointed to succeed Dessie Farrell as new Dublin manager, the All-Ireland winning defender taking over on a three-year term. Dublin GAA confirmed the news in a statement this afternoon, saying that his backroom team would be announced in due course. "Ger has achieved the highest honours as a player with Dublin and he has our full support in leading the Dublin senior football panel in pursuit of further honours in the coming years," Dublin county board chairman Ken O'Sullivan said in a statement. "We wish Ger, his team and the panel the very best and look forward to the 2026 season." Brennan, centre-back on the Dublin All-Ireland winning sides of 2011 and 2013, guided Louth to a long-awaited Leinster title this summer. It was the county's first senior provincial title in 68 years and marked the first time a team other than Dublin had won the Leinster SFC since 2010. Brennan departed the Louth post following their elimination from the championship at the hands of Donegal in the preliminary quarter-final. He assumes the Dublin job in the wake of Farrell's departure after six years in charge. The Na Fianna clubman, who succeeded Jim Gavin in late 2019, presided over two All-Ireland title victories in 2020 and 2023, and stepped down following defeat to Tyrone at the quarter-final stage in 2025.

Dublin appoint Ger Brennan as senior football manager
Three months after leading Louth to their first Leinster SFC title in 68 years, Ger Brennan has been appointed as the new Dublin senior football manager. The St Vincent's man, who left the Louth role in early July after two years in charge, has been given a three-year term. He replaces Dessie Farrell who stepped down after six seasons in charge following June's All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tyrone. Brennan's management team will be confirmed at a later date. Brennan won two All-Ireland senior medals as a player – 2011 and '13 – before retiring from the inter-county game in 2015. He captained St Vincent's to an All-Ireland senior club title in 2014 and had been part of the team that won the 2008 crown. Confirming the news, Dublin chairman Ken O'Sullivan said: 'Ger has achieved the highest honours as a player with Dublin and he has our full support in leading the Dublin Senior Football panel in pursuit of further honours in the coming years. We wish Ger, his team and the panel the very best and look forward to the 2026 season'. Brennan is the first man to manage Dublin having previously taken charge of another county team since Tommy Lyons in 2001 – Mayo native Lyons had guided Offaly to a provincial senior champions in 1998. Brennan is the Gaelic games executive in UCD where he succeeded his late club-mate, Dublin great Brian Mullins. He follows fellow St Vincent's men Pat Gilroy and Kevin Heffernan in taking the reins.
