'Short power outage' in Cork after man electrocuted in workplace accident
A man who was working on a construction site in Cork City was rushed to hospital after he was electrocuted when the jackhammer he was using reportedly hit a power line. Emergency services were rushed to the scene of the accident, which occurred at around midday on Father Mathew Quay in the city centre. CorkBeo reports the worker, who was a contractor, was rushed to Cork University Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The incident took place where works are ongoing as part of the Morrison's Island Public Realm and Flood Defence scheme. The incident resulted in a small localised power outage, which impacted parts of the South Mall area, but this was quickly resolved by ESB crew. A spokesperson for the ESB told the Irish Mirror: 'ESB Networks can confirm a short power outage occurred following third-party machinery coming into contact with our infrastructure on Thursday 22 May at Father Mathew Quay in Cork City. 'Our crews mobilised to the site, making it safe and restoring power quickly to all customers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.' The Health and Safety Authority confirmed that an investigation has been launched following the incident. A spokesperson for the HSA told the Irish Mirror: 'The HSA is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time.'
