New MasterChef hosts 'confirmed' after Gregg Wallace axing

An independent review commissioned by production company Banijay into misconduct allegations against Gregg Wallace upheld 45 of the 83 claims, leading to his removal from the cooking programme. Torode was also fired after racial language accusations were levied against him. It was claimed that he used the "N-word" on two separate occasions while working at the broadcaster. A post shared by MasterChef UK (@masterchefuk) Now, it has been 'confirmed' that Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt is taking over one of the vacant positions after the axing of Gregg Wallace and John Torode. According to The Sun, BBC chef Andi Oliver, who currently stars in Great British Menu, is also joining him. A source told the publication: "Matt is seen as a really safe pair of hands by the BBC. He has been in the frame for some time and is now being lined up for MasterChef. "The BBC are keen to bring Andi Oliver on board too. She has been so popular as host of the Great British Menu. "They're not sure if she can commit at this stage because of her schedule with that show but everyone is hoping they can get her on board." A post shared by MasterChef UK Casting Account (@masterchefukcasting) The source added: "Everyone loves Andi and she would be perfect for the role in many ways. "She is very talented on her own merit but she would also help bring a more diverse look for the show, which is much needed. "The last thing the show wants is to be slapped with being 'pale, and stale' by a new generation of food lovers." According to IMDb, Matt Tebbutt is an actor and presenter who is known for starring in a number of shows like Saturday Kitchen and Food Unwrapped. The British chef and presenter often filled in for James Martin on Saturday Kitchen before becoming a regular face on the programme. He is also married to Lisa Tebbutt and has two children. Andi Oliver is also a British chef and presenter who has starred in a number of shows over her successful career, including Great British Menu, where she is a judge. She is also a radio presenter and former singer who has authored the book The Pepperpot Diaries: Stories From My Caribbean Table.

MasterChef's new presenters 'confirmed' after Gregg Wallace and John Torode axin

Two new presenters have reportedly been 'confirmed' for MasterChef following the axing of Gregg Wallace and John Torode. Earlier this week an independent review commissioned by production company Banijay into misconduct accusations against Wallace, 60, upheld 45 of the 83 allegations, leading to his official removal from the cooking reality series. Torode, 59, exited hot on his heels after admitting he was subject to the racial language accusation featured in the review, although he has claimed he has 'no recollection' of the incident. It was claimed that he 'used the 'the N-word' on two separate occasions while working at the BBC. Now, however, Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt, 51, is said to be in the running to take the vacant position, according to The Sun. Joining him, fellow BBC chef Andi Oliver, 62, who presents Great British Menu, is reportedly being considered as well. Matt Tebbutt is a British chef and food presenter best known for presenting Channel 4's Food Unwrapped and Drop Down Menu, the BBC's Saturday Kitchen and the Good Food channel's Market Kitchen. Tebbutt ran a restaurant called The Foxhunter for many years with his wife, but gave it up to focus on his TV career. Previously, he presented Saturday Kitchen while regular host James Martin was away but then became the main presenter. Andi Oliver is also a chef, TV and radio broadcaster and former singer. She is known for appearing on BBC's Great British Menu, and is the author of the book The Pepperpot Diaries: Stories From My Caribbean Table, which she published in 2023. For four years she ran a successful restaurant called The Moveable Feast before opening her award-winning restaurant, Andi's, in 2016. Grace Dent, who has stepped into host Celebrity MasterChef, was said to also be in the running for the permanent MasterChef spot. However, a source told The Sun: 'Matt is seen as a really safe pair of hands by the BBC. He has been in the frame for some time and is now being lined up for MasterChef. Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt's cryptic eight-word reply to MasterChef claims

Matt has been a regular presenter on the BBC show since taking over from James Martin in 2016 and has reportedly 'held talks' about presenting MasterChef When questioned about potentially taking over as the presenter of MasterChef, Matt Tebutt offered a somewhat cryptic response, sparking further speculation. This comes after Gregg Wallace, aged 60, was reportedly let go by the BBC amid misconduct allegations. Gregg initially stepped down from hosting duties in November. It led to food critic Grace Dent stepping in to co-host the latest series of Celebrity MasterChef alongside John Torode. ‌ Grace recently told Loose Women that presenting the show had been her "dream job ever since she was a little girl". She explained: "I've had my eye on the prize wanting it but you never think that you're going to get chosen. ‌ "When I felt that there might be some movement, and there might be a role, I wanted it and wanted it, and I put the feelers out but I wasn't going to believe it until I was standing there smiling at scallops with the dress on, with the bra on. It's a dream come true, I'm so happy." However, despite Grace's temporary takeover, there has been ongoing speculation about the long-term host. It has been reported that Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebutt has had discussions about potentially taking on the role, reports Gloucestershire Live. ‌ Matt has been a staple on MasterChef since taking over from James Martin in 2016, but hinted on the Grilled by The Staff Canteen podcast that change may be on the horizon, stating: "It's going to stop at some point. I'm going to have to do something." In March, sources whispered to The Sun that MasterChef insiders were eager for Matt to take the reins and "make it his own," revealing that he was in negotiations to co-present the show with John. The insider revealed: "Matt rose to the challenge of coming into Saturday Kitchen after it was previously hosted by another big name in the world of food, James Martin. "He managed the feat of making it his own and almost making viewers forget who his predecessor was - now Beeb bosses, and the show producers Banijay, will be hoping he can work the same magic on MasterChef." ‌ When quizzed about the potential gig, 51-year-old Matt played it cool. In an exchange with Muddy Stilettos, he remarked: "Well, there's always rumours, but it would be a great gig for sure!". Having honed his culinary skills at Leiths School of Food and Wine in London, Matt went on to add flavour to some top-notch restaurants. His journey into television started when he substituted for James Martin on Saturday Kitchen. Beyond this, Matt has helmed shows such as Channel 4's Food Unwrapped and joined forces with Tom Parker-Bowles and Matthew Fort on Market Kitchen. His gastronomy achievements include running the Foxhunter restaurant in Wales for a decade and a half, which he now leases out. Tune in to catch Matt back on Saturday Kitchen from 10am today on BBC One, where he'll cook alongside Ran Shmueli, Richard Bainbridge, and Crystelle Pereira. Guesting in the studio will be songstress Vanessa Williams, while Helen McGinn selects the week's perfect wine pairings. Plus, viewers will get to savour nostalgic culinary clips from the BBC's storied foodie archives.

Crab stick fans left disgusted after learning how seafood snack is really made

Footage from a factory in Thailand has revealed the process behind the frozen fishy treats - and vieweres weren't impressed. Although they might not be as popular as they were in their '80s heyday, crab sticks are still a tasty treat that many people enjoy. Whether having them as part of a salad or sushi - or even just eating them as a snack - lots of us enjoy tucking into a humble crab stick. However, a revelation about how they are made has put some former fans off for life. After seeing the process behind the fishy food, someone even branded them "the hot dogs of the sea". ‌ They are available in most supermarkets and big stores throughout Scotland, the UK, and the rest of the world. But their journey to Scotland's shelves has put some people off. The Mirror reported in 2023 that a crab stick factory in Thailand shared how they made the frozen food with a video on YouTube. The sticks start off life as huge, grey, concrete-like slabs - a far cry from the tasty-looking red-and-white stick you see in packets in your local store. The frozen fish meat blocks go through a range of processes before they are ready to eat, starting with being fed through a machine that crushes them up into a sludgy substance. ‌ This fishy concoction travels along a conveyor belt where salt and other seasonings are added. It is then mixed with ice, vegetable oil, and sugars. In the clip, factory workers are seen feeding this through a tube, which whips it into a dull, grey paste. It is then moulded into the right shape and dyed red and white for the classic crab stick look. The Thai factory claims to be the world's largest, with 40,000 tons of fish sticks produced every year - which is four times heavier than the Eiffel Tower. ‌ The factory is said to sell to more than 37 countries worldwide - but some customers may be reconsidering after seeing the footage. After it was posted on Reddit, one person branded the food "hot dogs of the sea". While another added: "The only ingredient I could identify was the ice". ‌ Joking about tucking into the crab sticks, someone said: "Everything ok hun? You've hardly touched your grey." A fourth person said: "Bet that place smells wonderful" Someone else commented: "If the title hadn't specified they were making crab sticks, or in fact any type of food, I would've gotten to 1:38 before I realised that they weren't making some sort of industrial building material." However, one person pointed out: "It's just chopped meat run through a chopper with ice and spice to bind it like a sausage. Nothing new humans have been doing this to meat a a long time." ‌ Crab sticks aren't the only food whose origins have left fans feeling queasy. Marmite lovers said they "can't eat it anymore" after discovering what goes into the love-it-or-hate-it spread. One episode of Channel 4's Food Unwrapped changed some long-held opinions after a clip from an older episode resurfaced in 2023, with presenter Kate Quilton visiting a factory in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. She was looking into how Marmite, and other yeast products, were made. The Channel 4 programme then showed how yeast cells produce alcohol as they multiply. This means breweries can be left with seven times more yeast than they originally had, and much of it is not needed. The breweries often sell the excess to factories that make yeast extract. And many viewers were left stunned to discover that their favourite breakfast product was actually made using an alcohol by-product.
