Adopt Bella: Super snuggler who loves her playtime
Our Forever Home team didn't have to travel far from the ABC22 and FOX44 studios for this week's newest episode. The reason why? We met up with Queen City Cats at one of their fosterer's homes in the greater Colchester area. That's where we met beautiful Bella, a chonky cat who loves to play and snuggle up on your chest. Let's meet her now! Bella is a 5 year old Queen who is known to be very good around younger kids as long as there is a slow introduction. Bella has a high potential of being the perfect family cat who will be loyal and love your family to the moon and back. She is known to be very playful, but equally as loving. Bella will go from monkeying around with her stringy toys and catnip stuffies to crawling up on your lap and snuggling up to your chin. This girlie pop is like a weighted blanket when she lovingly lays on you. She is a little over 18 pounds and is currently on a weight-loss journey. Bella is very play-motivated cat and that's half the battle when it comes to encouraging her to shed the pounds. Her current foster Mom also puts the litter box downstairs so she can get some cardio during the day and night, or whenever she decides to do her business; what a smart idea for potential adopters! This sweet girl is currently on one medication. She takes it like a champ and takes it daily. Not to mention, the prescription only needs to be filled once a month and it doesn't break the bank. Bella has been with Queen City Cats for about 8 months, and we think now is her time to break free into a new Forever Home. If you would like more information about beautiful, playful, and fun-loving Bella, you can watch her Forever Home episode, here. You can also visit the Queen City Cats website. Let's find Bella her Forever Home today! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Vermont town begins search for mayor…a dog mayor!
We have been teasing this awesome, very exclusive story for the last week or so. It's something we're super excited to tell you about because it's a story that you will only see on ABC22 and FOX44. Homeward Bound, Addison County's Humane Society has asked our Forever Home series to help them launch a search for the first-ever Dog Mayor for the Town of Middlebury. We are proud to announce that the nomination process is underway and will last two weeks. This official business of Middlebury has been approved by the Town Manager at a recent board meeting. Nominees must have a professional headshot, a campaign slogan, and a few more qualifications if they are seeking this top spot in the marvelous, magical Town of Middlebury. We are so ecstatic about this, but we also find it to be a privilege and honor to be a part of this whole process. There has only been one other pet mayor in Vermont and it was in Fairfax where there was a goat elected mayor, then eventually a dog. Starting spreading the news, get your friends with 'viable candidates' involved, and let's help Homeward Bound raise a pretty penny in the process! What do you say? Each vote cast will cost five dollars with all the money going back to benefit the animals in Homeward Bound's care. Talk about having fun while doing good at the same time. We'll have more updates about the nominees and news about the winner of this election when they become available, so stay tuned! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Helen Skelton's Welsh home renovation almost ends in disaster as couple admit it almost broke them
Helen Skelton's Welsh home renovation almost ends in disaster as couple admit it almost broke them A couple who moved from London back home to their roots in Wales struggled whilst making Helen Skelton's Forever Home. (Image: Below The Radar ) In a step away from her usual Morning Live slot, Helen Skelton along with architect Patrick Bradley from Northern Ireland, try to help one young couple create their dream home in the hopes of returning to their roots in rural Wales. Knowing the struggle of renovating a house herself Helen was quick to offer comfort to the couple who struggled through a life-changing process. Jess and Colin, who are originally from Powys decided to move back to Wales after living in the hustle and bustle of London. In the new programme, Forever Home, the couple's relationship suffered as a result of the pressure of the renovation. The handy pair assisted the couple in creating their dream house and swapping the excitement of city life for a more settled lifestyle. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . The 59 minute pilot episode shows Jess and Colin facing the reality of a large-scale restoration project. Not only that, but they also need to navigate their life back in the Welsh countryside, after leaving their friends and busy London life. Jess said: "It's not just getting out of London, it's home." When deciding to start their restoration project, the Welsh couple were overwhelmed when they realised they both had family connections to the house in Powys. They thought it was fate when they realised Jess' grandfather used to live in the house and later so did Colin's family. Article continues below When asked why they chose the house, Jess said: "I suppose all our family is around here, and then kind of a funny story that we came across." Helen Skelton and architect Patrick Bradley are helping a Welsh couple return to their Welsh roots by renovating their dream home. (Image: Below The Radar ) Colin said: "To start with my grandparents moved from Liverpool, then my great uncle moved down too and they lived here. All my life I can remember growing up in this house." Jess added: "Obviously, I'm from here too and my grandad came back from the war and I was looking through his homecoming pictures last Summer, and I was like 'that looks like this house' and he was like it is." The pair didn't know that they had the connection to the cottage when they met in London in 2020. Things soon started to turn south when their goals of a budget of £150,000 to renovate the house and 8 months to do so, quickly changed. This was a result of the house flooding after a burst pipe and costs started shooting up. The pair were unlucky as the cost of building materials shot up 22% following the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Colin, who is an electrician, took on the job, almost like a project manager when their funds were sinking to save some budget. Jess, who is a solicitor, couldn't take on as much of the workload due to various exams taking place at the same time. The project eventually cost a lot more than they expected, at around £220,000-£250,000 and it also took a lot longer to complete, the renovation taking over three and a half years. Colin said: "Am I surprised it took longer? No. Would I have liked it done quicker? Yeah." He continued: "Me and Jess have been through... to hell and back really. Relationship wise, Jess was still working away when we were working on the house and I felt like I was always here, working harder than Jess. "Looking back on it, it wasn't really a fair thing to say, Jess is not going to be doing the stuff I was doing. She was there emotionally and she's not had me around as much as she probably wanted. So, it's now nice to be able to take your foot off the gas a little bit and enjoy the house and live in it, have breakfast together. We've not had our own space in a long time." Whilst the renovations were happening the pair moved in with Jess' parents in Newtown, as the workload was so overwhelming and they didn't want to live on a construction site. Jess shared: "It was tough, there were definitely days where I think we both just didn't want to do it., but, now it's like we made it and it was so worth it." When discussing the show Helen said: "Bringing old properties back to life is always something that has fascinated me, I love a property with a story to tell. "Watching Colin and Jess create their forever home with Patrick's guidance and ideas has been a total privilege. Article continues below "It is not always straightforward creating a dream property. I have lived the restoration highs and lows myself having completed my own project so getting a ring side seat for this one was a total joy." Forever Home will be available to watch on BBC Two from 7pm on Thursday, May 15. However it is already available to watch now on BBC iPlayer, as the programme aired on BBC Northern Ireland earlier this year.

Helen Skelton's 'baptism of fire' as she addresses 'heartbreak' and 'overwhelming' ordeal
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Helen Skelton has candidly shared her experiences of learning to "deal with heartbreak" and grow from life's challenges. Speaking on The Runna Podcast, Helen, who is an enthusiastic long-distance runner and completed her fourth London Marathon this year, delved into what drove her to take part in an extreme 78-mile ultramarathon in Namibia. The Countryfile presenter, who achieved the honour of being the second woman ever to finish the demanding race in Africa, was questioned about whether she was aware of this at the time and if she was "doing it for the girls." The 41-year-old disclosed that her participation was influenced by a significant move to London, where she transitioned from her job in newspapers and radio to television. It would be a significant change for someone raised in a quaint rural community in the Lake District. (Image: BBC) Helen expressed: "So, again, big baptism of fire, like the hair, the makeup, the TV studios; it was all a lot. I was at that chapter of life where you're learning about heartbreak and to deal with like losing family members, learning to pay council tax, learning to, you know, pay for your speeding fines, learning to deal with heartbreak. "All of that stuff that you have to do when you become a grown-up was quite overwhelming, and I think that's why I did it because I was like, 'I need to be broken so that I know I can cope with real life'. And that probably sounds mental." Yet, Helen is no stranger to heart-stopping feats, having kayaked down the Amazon and traversed a 66m-high tightrope. Yet, her journey with running began on a much more modest scale. While chatting with Runner's World, she revealed that her initial foray into running was at the Great North Run, but it wasn't until she relocated to London and became a presenter on Blue Peter that she took running more seriously. As for her ultra-marathon prep, she confessed that she underestimated the challenge, saying she "didn't know how hard" it would be and couldn't run for 10 minutes at the start. (Image: BBC) While reflecting on the gruelling event, she described: "It was so hot and each time I put my feet on the ground, it felt like I was stepping on razor blades. It was also very intimidating." She admitted feeling out of her depth as other runners discussed split times, something she "didn't even understand". While many were there to compete, Helen said she "just wanted to try to finish". In the midst of her training, Helen shared that her parents questioned whether it was a "good idea", yet in under four months, she completed the ultramarathon, clocking nearly 80 miles in under a day. You can next catch Helen in Forever Home today (Thursday, May 15) from 7pm to 8pm on BBC Two.
