Justin Timberlake faces backlash on tour for poor performance amid claims he's 'in a rut'

Justin Timberlake is reportedly 'in a rut' as fans criticise his ongoing Forget Tomorrow World Tour for 'lazy' performances and lack of energy. According to insiders, the pop star 'knows he's lost his mojo' and is struggling with declining morale during the tour. The backlash intensified after a viral video from England's Lytham Festival showed Timberlake lashing out at his crew over sound issues. Concertgoers in Romania and Ireland further accused him of lip-syncing, minimal vocal effort, and being disconnected from audiences, prompting many to walk out mid-show. A source told the Daily Mail that Timberlake 'wants to create new music' and is weary of performing his old hits repeatedly. Fans online have also expressed disappointment. Timberlake reportedly appeared late on stage and sang only a few words of each song, wearing sunglasses throughout and moving listlessly. His wife, Jessica Biel, is said to be concerned about the toll the tour is taking on his mental and physical health. 'Jessica thinks Justin has aged years since he started the tour,' a separate source revealed, adding that he's become 'short-tempered both on and off stage.' While Timberlake has yet to publicly respond, many fans are urging a return to form, suggesting an NSYNC reunion might help lift spirits and restore energy to his performances.

Justin Timberlake leaves fans fuming after barely singing during festival concert

Fans called out Justin Timberlake for not singing during a concert in Romania. Timberlake performed at the Electric Castle festival, but many weren't pleased with his performance. In one video, the pop singer can be heard continuously telling the audience to sing while walking around the stage and occasionally dancing. "When you pay for a concert but get a mute singer," a fan wrote while sharing the video on TikTok. "Dude took a day off on stage…" Users flooded the comments with jokes about the performance. "So y'all went to karaoke?" one wrote, while another added: "This performance could've been an email." "It looks like he doesn't even care," one user said. And another wrote: "So basically u paid ur ticket to listen to urself." "I would 100% request a refund," another chimed in. Fox News Digital has reached out to representatives for Timberlake for comment. Timberlake was in Romania as part of the European Leg of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour. The "Cry Me a River" singer will head to Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey next. Timberlake's tour was almost derailed after the singer was arrested for DWI in June 2024. The former *NSYNC member pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of "driving while ability impaired" and was given community service. Timberlake addressed reporters after his hearing. The musician made a public apology and gave a drunk-driving PSA as required in his plea agreement. "So I don't, I don't know how many of you were in the courtroom and heard what I had to say in the courtroom, but I'll reiterate that and say this to you. Many of you have probably been covering me for a lot of my life. And as you may know, I try to hold myself to a very high standard for myself. And this was not that. I found myself in a position where I could have made a different decision, but I've had some time to reflect on that." "And I also understand by, you know, the fact that all of you are here, that I have a platform, you have a platform, we share that platform. And so what I like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you've had one drink, don't get behind the wheel of a car. There's so many alternatives. Call a friend. Take an Uber. There's many travel apps … take a taxi."

Justin Timberlake Is Receiving Backlash for 'Not Singing' at His Concerts

Justin Timberlake has been in the music biz for a minute now, and the 10-time Grammy winner is still promoting his material with live performances on tour. While he wrapped up his Forget Tomorrow World Tour back in February, J.T. is performing at a slew of international music festivals. Let's just aren't exactly thrilled with their recent experience during his sets. Amid recent appearances at the Electric Castle music festival in Romania and Lollapalooza in Paris, the singer is receiving backlash from concert-goers as he only sang parts of his chart-topping songs. According to fan-captured footage, Justin was giving hype man instead of headliner when he kept pointing his mic out to the crowd so they could sing along to his backing track during his Trolls number, 'CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!' One attendee posted a video from the set, captioned 'Go Justin, give us nothing.' They added, 'We waited for Justin Timberlake in the rain for hours at Electric Castle, only for him to come on stage 45 minutes late. The issue wasn't the rain or even his outfit, it was that he didn't actually sing. Disappointing, especially for such a long-awaited performance.' The comments section on the clip echoed that sentiment, with someone writing, 'I want my money back and I didn't even go,' and another adding, 'That performance could have been an email🤣.' Fans even expressed their disappointment under Justin's Instagram post following the set, with one saying, 'You did not click with the crowd, the show felt soulless and bored, ended abruptly and earlier. It was disrespectful towards the many thousands of people waiting for you. Too bad, could have been a nice evening.' In a separate video from Lollapalooza Paris, the former N*Sync member is seen awkwardly dancing and throwing ad-libs out to the crowd as his 'Cry Me a River' track plays. A critic in the comments section pointed out that the artist's energy levels fluctuated between songs, and he allegedly refrained from singing more than several lines at a time. 'The fact he did [this] for several songs is so upsetting. He needs to be humbled fast,' they wrote over the post, which read, 'Justin 'I Didn't Know I Was Supposed to Sing at My Concert' Timberlake.' The singer hasn't addressed fans' concerns at this time. Still, he's set to hit the stage at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, on July 27 and again at ITU Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, on July 30.

Justin Timberlake Doesn't Sing During Live Shows

While Justin Timberlake's Forget Tomorrow World Tour may have officially wrapped in February, the 44-year-old star is still on the road amid his 27-date string of one-off concerts and festival appearances across the globe. However, fans have been left disappointed by Justin's efforts at these shows, with the star going viral for his 'go girl, give us nothing' stage presence. In multiple videos from various concerts, Justin can be seen hardly singing as he instead encourages the crowd to perform for him. In fact, Justin barely sings more than a handful of words throughout. In a clip from his Romania show on July 17, the opening beat for his 2016 hit 'Can't Stop the Feeling!' starts playing, and Justin sings three words of the opening line before holding the mic out to the audience. 'I got this,' he begins, with the star concealed by a hooded jacket due to the rainy weather. Justin doesn't sing again for 20 seconds, where he delivers the first three words of the second verse, 'I got that,' and dances awkwardly in one spot. This continues for the rest of the song, with Justin only singing two or three words at a time with long breaks in between. There's a video of Justin doing the exact same thing at his Denmark concert on June 14, and again in Ireland on June 28 — although this time, he sang the opening three words and then pointedly put his microphone down on the stage and walked away from it. And if you're wondering, 'Can't Stop the Feeling!' is not the only song that Justin gives this energy for, with videos from various other songs on his setlist showing a similar situation. One disappointed concertgoer captioned their video of Justin performing 'Cry Me A River' with: 'Justin 'I didn't know I was supposed to sing at a concert' Timberlake,' and the video certainly suggests exactly that. Once again, the star can be seen walking across the stage and occasionally dancing while saying no more than two or three words at a time. And when someone commented on the viral TikTok to claim that it had been cut 'just when he was about to sing,' the original TikToker replied with the receipts. The second video immediately followed on from the first, and showed Justin sing: 'You were my' before stopping and walking away, occasionally delivering another word or two from the have also emerged of Justin performing his 2013 song 'Mirrors' in the same way. Needless to say, people have been quick to roast the star in the comments of these viral TikToks, with one comment that has over 84,000 likes reading: 'I want a refund and I didn't even go😭' Another that has over 312,000 likes points out: 'dude they're not paying to have a karaoke session with you😭''embarrassing, he thinks he can just show up and that's enough,' somebody else wrote, while another suggested: 'People should stop singing and see what he does 😂''Not even dancers, no show, no backup singers no singer guests... he wants to make maximum money with minimum effort,' one more claimed. Somebody else asked: 'So y'all paid to put on a concert for Justin Timberlake?" Justin himself has not addressed the conversation surrounding his recent performances, and BuzzFeed has contacted his rep for comment. As always, let me know your thoughts below!

In the viral clip, Justin is seen singing the opening lines of the upbeat track as rain begins to fall. He pulls the hood of his jacket over his head and then turns the mic toward the audience, encouraging them to take over. 'Say what?' he says, prompting the crowd to sing along. Throughout the performance, the Mirrors hitmaker continues to gesture toward the crowd with his hands and walks across the stage, appearing to let them carry most of the song.
