Trump Names Fox News Host Jeanine Pirro the U.S. Attorney of D.C.: 'Incredibly Well Qualified'

President Donald Trump named Jeanine Pirro the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. The announcement follows the decision that the current Washington D.C. interim prosecutor, Ed Martin, would not be taking the position permanently Jeanine Pirro, a Fox News personality, will take the position after Martin's term concludes on Tuesday, May 20President Donald Trump named Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro to be the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., per his Thursday, May 8 Truth Social post. 'During her time in office, Jeanine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime,' Trump, 78, wrote in his announcement after detailing her law enforcement background. 'Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York. She is in a class by herself.' Pirro, 73, formerly served as the judge of the Westchester County Court, N.Y., in 1991-1993. Next, she served as the Republican district attorney of Westchester County, N.Y., from 1994 to 2005. She then stepped down to run against then-Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. However, she then announced her run for New York attorney general instead, which she lost to Andrew Cuomo. In 2006, Pirro joined Fox News and later hosted Justice with Judge Jeanine. Since 2022, she has been a co-host on Fox News' The Five. Due to Trump's recent announcement, she is leaving effective immediately, a Fox News Media spokesperson said in a statement to PEOPLE. A rotation of Fox News personalities will fill her position on The Five until a new co-host is named. 'Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across Fox News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington,' a Fox News Media spokesperson said. Pirro is Trump's latest selection of a government official who previously worked on Fox News. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth previously hosted Fox & Friends. Earlier on Thursday, Trump said current Washington D.C. interim top prosecutor Ed Martin would not be taking the position permanently. Martin has been serving in the position since Trump's Jan. 20 Inauguration, and his interim term concludes on May 20. The president withdrew Martin from consideration after Republican senators said they would not support Martin because he defended rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, per the Associated Press. 'He's a terrific person, and he wasn't getting the support from people that I thought,' Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, per the Associated Press. 'But we have somebody else that will be great.' Pirro has supported Trump since his 2016 campaign and defended him during the Access Hollywood tape scandal, per The New York Times. During his first administration, in 2019, Pirro was reportedly suspended by Fox News after she questioned whether Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, 37, held anti-Constitutional beliefs due to her religion. In the final hour of Trump's first term, he issued a last-minute pardon to Pirro's ex-husband, a longtime GOP donor, Albert Pirro. He was convicted in 2000 on 34 counts of conspiracy and tax evasion. Additionally, following Trump's loss in the 2020 election, Jeanine was named as a defendant in a defamation lawsuit seeking $1.6 billion filed by Dominion Voting Systems. The suit alleged that she and the other Fox News hosts purposefully shared falsehoods on air that the company's voting machines contributed to the notion that the 2020 U.S. presidential election was 'stolen.' In April 2023, Fox News Media paid a $787.5 million settlement and acknowledged that statements were false. She has also been named in a similar, still pending, lawsuit filed by voting-tech vendor Smartmatic. Read the original article on People

Trump Says He Is Naming Fox News Host and Former Judge Jeanine Pirro as Top Federal Prosecutor in DC

AP file photo Jeanine Pirro arrives at Fox Nation's Patriot Awards, Nov. 16, 2023, in Nashville, Tenn. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is naming Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, a former county prosecutor and elected judge, to be the top federal prosecutor for the nation's capital after abandoning his first pick for the job. Pirro, who joined Fox News in 2006, cohosts the network's show 'The Five' on weekday evenings. She was elected as a judge in New York's Westchester County Court in 1990 before serving three terms as the county's elected district attorney. Trump tapped Pirro to at least temporarily lead the nation's largest U.S. Attorney's office after pulling his nomination of conservative activist Ed Martin Jr. for the position earlier Thursday. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was naming Pirro as the interim U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., but didn't indicate whether he would nominate her for the Senate-confirmed position on a more permanent basis. 'Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York. She is in a class by herself,' Trump wrote. Trump withdrew Martin from consideration after a key Republican senator said he could not support Martin for the job due to his defense of rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. 'He's a terrific person, and he wasn't getting the support from people that I thought,' Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday. He later added, 'But we have somebody else that will be great.' Martin's leading role in Trump's 'Stop the Steal' movement was demoralizing for subordinates who spent four years prosecuting over 1,500 riot defendants only to see the president pardon them en masse. Pirro has her own connection to the baseless conspiracy theories of election fraud. In 2021, voting technology company Smartmatic USA sued Fox News, Pirro and others for spreading false claims that the company helped 'steal' the 2020 presidential election from Trump. The company's libel suit, filed in a New York state court, sought $2.7 billion from the defendants. Pirro is the latest in a string of Trump appointments coming from Fox News — a list that includes Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who co-hosted 'Fox & Friends Weekend.' 'Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across Fox News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington,' a Fox News Media spokesperson said in a statement. Martin has served as acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia since Trump's first week in office. But his hopes of keeping the job faded amid questions about his qualifications and background. Martin had never served as a prosecutor or tried a case before taking office in January. Martin has stirred up a chorus of critics during his brief but tumultuous tenure in office. He fired and demoted subordinates who worked on politically sensitive cases. He posted on social media about potential targets of investigations. And he forced the chief of the office's criminal division to resign after directing her to scrutinize the awarding of a government contract during Democratic President Joe Biden's administration. Martin's temporary appointment is due to expire May 20. Pirro, a 1975 graduate of Albany Law School, has significantly more courtroom experience than Martin. She led one of the nation's first domestic violence units in a prosecutor's office. After her elected terms as a judge and district attorney, Pirro briefly campaigned in 2005 as a Republican to unseat then-Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton before announcing that she would would run for New York attorney general instead. She lost that race to Andrew Cuomo, son of former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo. Pirro became an ubiquitous television pundit during O.J. Simpson's murder trial, often appearing on CNN's 'Larry King Live.' During her time on Fox News, she has frequently interviewed Trump. In the final minutes of his first term as president, Trump issued a pardon to Pirro's ex-husband, Albert Pirro, who was convicted in 2000 on conspiracy and tax evasion charges.

By the Book: Johnny Joey Jones Previews Behind the Badge (First Look)

By the Book is a series where journalists discuss their works of fiction and non-fiction. When tragedy strikes, first responders are always the first on the scene. But the physical and emotional toll that comes with reacting to emergencies in real time can take their toll over the days, weeks, and years in the field. That's why Fox News Media correspondent Johnny Joey Jones set out to collect responders' stories in his latest book, Behind the Badge: Answering the Call to Serve on America's Homefront. TVNewser has your exclusive first look at the cover of the book, out on shelves on June 17. It's the 15th release from Fox News Books, the network's publishing arm. "The experience of a first responder is more traumatic than most Americans realize,' Jones tells us. 'They drive through their battlefield every day.' Courtesy Fox News Media 'The same intersection where they turn to take their kids to school is where they've seen countless car crashes and lives lost,' he adds. 'Their church sits next to a building where they could get everyone out of fire.' Among the past and present responders profiled in Behind the Badge are Arizona sheriff Mark Lamb, Florida police deputy Katelyn Kotfila, former medic Vincent Vargas, and firefighter Keith Dempsey, who also happens to be Jones' brother-in-law. Before joining Fox News, Jones served in the Marine Corps and lost both of his legs above the knee during a deployment in Afghanistan. (His Fox colleague, Benjamin Hall, was also severely injured in a war zone, and has written about his experience.) Since returning to civilian life, he has been involved in various veterans' causes. His previous book, 2023's Unbroken Bonds of Battle, tells the story of some of the soldiers he met abroad. Behind the Badge brings his cause stateside, shining a spotlight on the private and public battles that first responders face every day. 'The book lets them tell their stories in their words and gives us a glimpse into the price they pay to keep us safe,' Jones says.

Fox News host Steve Doocy to move to Florida as he takes on a new role at the network

Another Fox News personality is headed to the Sunshine State, and possibly Palm Beach County, where he is linked to a property in Jupiter Inlet Colony. Longtime co-host Steve Doocy announced this week he is stepping away from the 'Fox & Friends' morning show and relocating to Florida full time. The 68-year-old was clear he's not retiring, but after decades of waking up at 3:30 a.m. to drive into New York City from New Jersey, he's ready for a later start time. According to Megan Albano, Fox News Media's executive vice president of morning programming and program development, Doocy will be traveling cities across the country where he will co-host from "diners to pickleball courts and more." 'I am not retiring. I'm not leaving the show. I'm still a host, but it's time for a change," Doocy said May 1 on 'Fox & Friends.' Doocy and his wife bought a home in the tony beachside community of Jupiter Inlet Colony in 2014 for $1.01 million. The nearly 2,600-square-foot home with four bedrooms and a pool was quitclaim-deeded to a land trust in 2020 for $10, but it remains homesteaded in Doocy's wife's name, according to the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser. In Florida, having a homestead exemption on a home means you consider it your primary residence. A quitclaim deed is often used for nonsale transactions such as adding a spouse on a title or transferring property within the family or to a trust. Jupiter Inlet Colony is about 17 miles north of West Palm Beach. It was incorporated in 1959 and had a population of 425 in 2023 Doocy follows fellow Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Bret Baier to Florida. Both Hannity and Baier have homes in Palm Beach. Hannity also owns a home in Manalapan. Baier hosts Fox News' "Special Report with Bret Baier" and is the network's chief political anchor. Baier and his wife, Amy, bought their home in 6,700-square-foot home in 2023 for $37 million. Hannity, who hosts "The Sean Hannity Show," owns an oceanfront townhome in Palm Beach and is believed to have used an ownership company in 2024 to buy an ocean-to-lake estate in Manalapan for $23.5 million. Doocy's move to Florida will put him closer to President Donald Trump's residence and private club Mar-a-Lago. High-profile Trump fan Kid Rock also owns a home in Jupiter Inlet Colony. 'I'll be going from the Carolinas to the Keys. From Middle America to Mar-a-Lago. Call me the coast-to-coast host," Doocy said. 'You may never see me in a necktie again.' The home in Jupiter Inlet Colony was built in 1981 and is a ranch-style cinderblock house with a two-car garage — modest compared to the homes of Baier and Hannity. The home isn't waterfront, but is sandwiched between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. The online real estate brokerage Redfin estimates its current sales value at $2.86 million.
