WWE SmackDown May 23: R-Truth says power corrupted John Cena, vows to destroy his ‘childhood hero'

WWE SmackDown May 23: R-Truth is set to take on the Undisputed Champion John Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event in a non-title match. Ahead of the showdown, the 53-year-old star sent out a strongly worded message to 'The Franchise Player' and promised to beat some sense back into him. R-Truth sends a chilling message to John Cena R-Truth addressed the WWE Universe on the latest episode of SmackDown and said that fame has corrupted John Cena, referring to the soon-to-retire star's recent heel turn. He pointed out that the current Undisputed Champion has been distant of late. 'I miss my hero, I can't deny it, so Saturday we say it again, if Cena wins we riot.'— R-Truth#SmackDown He also accused him of not replying to his messages properly. Truth went on to say that the man he faces at Saturday Night's Main Event is not 'childhood hero' but someone else. He then vowed to beat 'hustle, loyalty, and respect' back into Cena. How did Truth-Cena's feud start? R-Truth got involved in John Cena's match against Randy Orton at WWE Backlash earlier this month. He stopped 'The Viper' from nailing 'The Last Real Champion' with a pint kick. This gave Cena an opportunity to pin Orton after resorting to some unfair means. After the event, Cena put the veteran through a table and asked him to stay out of his business. Later, Truth challenged his hero to a match at Saturday Night's Main Event.

Randy Orton to ‘quit' the WWE after losing to John Cena at Backlash 2025? All we know

John Cena beat Randy Orton in the main event of WWE Backlash 2025 to retain the Undisputed Championship. The match, however, had its fair share of controversies. Cena picked up the win after delivering a low blow to his rival and hitting him with the title while the referee was down. The contest also saw Randy Orton do something that (in kayfabe) may force him to quit the WWE this week on Raw. Randy Orton to 'quit' the WWE this Monday? John Cena and Randy Orton rolled back the years as they put on a must-watch match for 'the last time'. At a crucial point in the contest, 'The Franchise Player' inadvertently hit the referee with the Undisputed title and knocked him out cold. Following this, Orton hit the opponent with an RKO only to realise that there was no ref around. Meanwhile, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis rushed down to the ring with several officials to check on the unconscious ref. This frustrated Orton to such an extent that he nailed the former Magnus with an RKO. 'The Viper' then proceeded to hit several officials with his finishers, crossing all limits. Triple H, the WWE's CCO, may threaten to 'fire' or 'suspend' Orton for these actions on Raw this Monday. This, in turn, could result in 'The Viper' walking out (or quitting) on the company on his own terms after nailing Hunter with an RKO. It goes without saying that all of this will be a 'work' as Orton won't be quitting the company in real life. Moreover, this angle is purely speculative right now. What role did R-Truth play in the main event at WWE Backlash 2025? Coming back to Cena and Orton's Backlash match, it also saw WWE veteran R-Truth get involved. He stopped the third-generation star from hitting Cena with a punt kick and received an RKO for his actions. However, this distraction was enough to help 'The Last Real Champion' resort to underhanded tactics and put away 'The Viper'. In case you did not know, Truth considers Cena to be his 'childhood hero' and is a 'fan' of his work. For all the latest coverage on WWE, track updates here
