The search for a mother and her infant daughter, missing for over a month, ended on Aug. 17, as divers recovered two bodies from a submerged vehicle, the Fresno Police Department said. Desperate search for missing mum and 8-month-old baby who 'vanished into thin air'
Whisper Owen, 36, and her 8-month-old daughter Sandra McCarty vanished without a trace about two weeks ago with their family not sounding the alarm for three days due to a misunderstanding A desperate search has been launched to find a mum and her baby after they seemingly vanished into thin air. Whisper Owen, 36, and her 8-month-old daughter Sandra McCarty were seen last on July 15, according to California's Fresno County Sheriff's Office. The pair were last seen departing Fresno to return to their home in Sacramento almost two weeks ago. Owen's mum Vickie Torres tearfully told CNN: "I'm desperate to find my daughter and her baby. It's like she vanished into thin air." The pair left Fresno when they visited family around 5pm on July 15, the sheriff's office said. It comes after a couple planned a Morocco trip 'to sacrifice their five-year-old son in desert'. A traffic camera last captured their vehicle, a silver 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer at about 8pm in Atwater, some 66 miles north of Fresno. But neither has been since since with officers working to determine what happened to them. The Fresno Police Department, which is leading the investigation, told CNN they believe Owen and Sandra are not in the Fresno area. There is nothing that suggests foul play is involved in their disappearance, CNN was told. The family was not aware she was missing for three days due to a miscommunication. Owen had been in Fresno for a routine check up for the baby, her mother said. She visited her mum's house where she changed and fed the baby before the 8:30am appointment. Afterward, she visited her brother's house. Richard Owen said he last saw his sister at about 2:45pm on July 15. When she did not return, her partner thought she stayed behind to help her mum clean a house she had bought, her brother said. Her partner did not realise anything unusual had happened until the Saturday when the two would typically spend the weekend together. Owens suffers from high blood pressure and that it had been noticeably bad since she gave birth. She was hospitalised several times during the pregnancy. "My fear is that maybe there was a medical emergency behind the wheel, and maybe she had veered off the road," her brother said. "I can't help but to feel like something horrible has happened," he added. "The last time I talked I talked to my sister, she was talking about how good life was. She was just happy. There was no reason for her to want to disappear or to leave." Torres has urged anyone with information about her daughter and granddaughter to contact the police. "Somebody knows something and they need to come forward," she said.

Major search for mum and eight-month-old daughter who vanished on way to buy baby milk
Whisper Owen, 36, and her eight-month-old daughter Sandra McCarty, vanished on their way home from Fresno, in California, on July 15, after visiting family and having a doctor appointment A desperate search is underway for a mum and her eight-month-old daughter who disappeared nearly two weeks ago after visiting family and stopping off to buy baby formula. Whisper Owen, 36, and her baby daughter Sandra McCarty, vanished on their way home from Fresno, California, on July 15. The car, a silver 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, belonging to the mum-of-four was last spotted in Atwater, north of Fresno at 8pm, said the office of the Fresno County Sheriff. Her partner reported her missing and other family members found out about the disappearance a few days later. 'The not knowing, it's brought me to a point where I'm — it's a cross between anger and numb,' reportedly said grandmother Vickie Torres. 'I'm terrified. I'm just terrified.' 'The only thing she had to do was stop and get a can of formula because she was on her last bottle.' Ms Owen had visited family and had a doctor's appointment for a routine check-up on the baby that day before leaving Fresno at 5pm on July 15. There have been no sightings or information about the pair since that day and Fresno Police Department, believes they are not in the Fresno area and they have also reportedly said that there is nothing to suggest foul play. Ms Owen was supposed to be driving back home to Elk Grove in Sacramento County 'where family were expecting them', said the sheriff's office. After visiting the doctor on July 15 she had gone to the house of her brother Richard Owen who said he last saw her at around 2.45pm. From there Whisper went to her mother's house for lunch before leaving at 5pm. It is reported that Ms Owen's partner at first thought that she had stayed behind to help her mother who had just moved into a new house. And communication with Whisper was also made more difficult as she has not had a phone for the past year. Whisper suffers from high blood pressure and had to be hospitalised during her pregnancy. 'My fear is that maybe there was a medical emergency behind the wheel, and maybe she had veered off the road,' her brother told CNN. 'I can't help but to feel like something horrible has happened The last time I talked I talked to my sister, she was talking about how good life was. She was just happy. There was no reason for her to want to disappear or to leave.' Whisper has a 17-year-old from a previous relationship as well as an eight- and three-year-old with her partner. The children are 'all devastated wanting to know if and when they will see their mother again,' her brother said. While the baby's grandmother Ms Torres continued: 'She's just a very loving person. Everybody loves Whisper. We, as a family, know she didn't leave on her own. Everything is good in her life right now. There's no reason for her to have taken off.'

Fresno shooting: Kuvar Kumar killed outside home; police say attack 'not random'
A 33-year-old man, identified as Kuvar Kumar, was shot and killed outside his home in northwest Fresno on the evening of Monday, 21 July. Fresno Police said officers were dispatched to the area of State Avenue and Acacia Avenue at around 6:52 pm following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Kumar unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to investigators, Kumar had just returned home when he was ambushed and fatally shot. Two people were reportedly inside the residence at the time of the attack, including Kumar's brother. Homicide detectives who responded to the scene say the presence of two distinct types of shell casings suggests there may have been more than one shooter. Police believe the act was targeted rather than random. The Fresno Police Department is actively canvassing the neighbourhood in search of witnesses or surveillance footage that may assist in identifying the suspects. No descriptions of the attackers have been released yet, and authorities have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information. 'This is an active investigation, and we are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to reach out,' said a spokesperson. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Man suffers critical stab wound in Fresno County Easter Sunday fight, deputies say
A man was stabbed during a fight in Fresno County on Easter Sunday. Deputies said the altercation took place at noon in the parking lot of a gas station near Lincoln and Elm Avenues in Easton. Deputies said a fight broke out and a knife was used at some point. The group fled in a vehicle before deputies arrived. Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded to a crash in the area of Fresno and R Streets involving a car that matched the one that fled from the Easton gas station. Officers detained everyone in the car for questioning. They learned one of the other men who was originally in the car was gone. A passerby picked him up and took him to the hospital because he was suffering from a stab wound. He is listed in critical condition at Community Regional Medical Center. The man originally approached at the gas station suffered minor injuries during the fight, deputies said. Deputies are interviewing the involved parties and determining what arrests might need to be made.
