Man suffers critical stab wound in Fresno County Easter Sunday fight, deputies say

A man was stabbed during a fight in Fresno County on Easter Sunday. Deputies said the altercation took place at noon in the parking lot of a gas station near Lincoln and Elm Avenues in Easton. Deputies said a fight broke out and a knife was used at some point. The group fled in a vehicle before deputies arrived. Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded to a crash in the area of Fresno and R Streets involving a car that matched the one that fled from the Easton gas station. Officers detained everyone in the car for questioning. They learned one of the other men who was originally in the car was gone. A passerby picked him up and took him to the hospital because he was suffering from a stab wound. He is listed in critical condition at Community Regional Medical Center. The man originally approached at the gas station suffered minor injuries during the fight, deputies said. Deputies are interviewing the involved parties and determining what arrests might need to be made.

Fresno man faces charges for bank fraud and illegal re-entry into the US

( — Sergio Zacarias Lopez, a Mexican citizen residing in Fresno, was charged with bank fraud, aggravated identity theft, and illegal re-entry, according to acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith. A federal grand jury returned a six-count indictment against the 57-year-old which was unsealed following his arrest Thursday. Video above: Farmworkers in San Joaquin County express concerns about illegal immigration crackdowns Lopez secured his accounting role by stealing and using a valid social security number along with other falsified employment documents to conceal his citizenship status, according to officials. According to court documents, he abused this position as well as his controller position to defraud a family-run Fresno fruit wholesaler. Lopez wrote multiple company checks payable to 'cash' and then deposited them into his personal bank account through local ATMs. Using signatory authority, he used other employees' signatures for the fraudulent checks, including one of the company's founders, embezzling more than $1 million before he was detected by one of the banks and fired by the company. Lopez was previously removed from the United States in 2000 and hasn't been allowed to return. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Fresno Police Department with Assistant U.S. Attorney Calvin Lee prosecuting the case. Lopez faces a maximum of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine if convicted of bank fraud. If he's convicted of illegal re-entry or aggravated identity theft he would face two years in prison. Police Bust $3 Million Chop Shop Ring Specializing In Hellcat And Trackhawk Parts

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawks and Dodge Hellcats are some of the most stolen vehicles in the U.S. right now. If you're one of the unlucky folks who have had their high-powered Mopar muscle stolen in the past few years, there's a non-zero chance it ended up at this chop shop in Huntington Park, California. All in all, the Fresno Police Department says they identified over 75 stolen vehicles at the garage as well as a second location in Fresno, with a total value north of $3,000,000. In a Facebook post, police said they found "high performance vehicles" including Chargers, Challengers, Durangos, Infinitis, Trackhawks and Chevy Camaros. There's nothing too shocking here, including the fact the bust has resulted in seven arrests and 110 felony counts... so far. Two suspects still remain at large. From the pictures, it looks as if hundreds if not thousands of parts have been recovered, along with ten firearms and a handful of short-barrel rifles. It could have been local to Fresno, in all of California or possibly across the entire country. I'm sure more information will come out soon. In a 2023 report, the California Highway Patrol said 51.7 percent of the state's car thefts happened in Southern California. It was followed by the Bay Area (21.6 percent) and the Central Valley (11.9) percent, according to The Drive. That just so happens to be where Fresno is located. Car theft seems to be a really hot activity right now. Last July, we told you about a car theft ring that stole over 400 vehicles from dealerships and factories. Obviously, we've also got the whole #KiaBoyz fiasco and catalytic converters are being cut out of cars all the time. Because of all this, we decided to take a look at the most stolen cars in America. h/t The Drive Want more like this? Huge Muscle Car Chop Shop Busted In California

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Police in Fresno, California are celebrating after they busted a muscle car chop shop recently, recovering about $3 million in stolen vehicles. Of course, those rides were in pieces, as you can see from the pictures. And we're sure many more had already been chopped by the people running the Fresno Police Department has reason to celebrate, having arrested seven people who collectively are facing 110 felony charges. This wasn't some small scale operation but instead was responsible for at least processing quite a few stolen muscle cars, if not also stealing them. You can see whole dash assemblies, including steering wheels, all lined up nicely in one of photos police took after making the bust. A number of those steering wheels say SRT and most of the rest have the Dodge logo. It's the same with trunk lids also recovered, with a few bearing the telltale Hellcat logo. The sheer scope of the chop shop's operation is impressive, in a disgusting sort of way. According to Fresno Police Department, these guys were concentrating mostly on Mopar performance models: Chargers, Challengers, Durangos, and Trackhawks. But they also went for some Camaros and Infinitis, we guess to pad that tidy profit line. If your muscle car went missing in the Fresno area, these guys might have been kind enough to chop it up and sell the pieces to people who wanted to save a buck on replacement parts for their ride. Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down two people they saw were associated with the chop shop: 20 year-old Julian Calderon and 22 year-old Jordan Rios. Calderon is facing several criminal charges, including stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possess, manufacture, or distribute an assault weapon. Rios is wanted for possessing, manufacturing, or distributing an assault weapon. We hope to see many more busts like this in the future. Sadly, taking down one car theft ring usually just means others are created or existing ones expand their operations. Car Theft Ring Stole $3 Million in Chargers, Challengers & Other Muscle Cars, Cops Say

A large-scale 'chop shop' auto theft ring in California that specialized in stealing high-performance domestic vehicles, including Chevrolet Camaros and various Dodge Hellcat models, has been shut down, according to the Fresno Police Department. Seven arrests have been made so far, with 110 felony counts levied against them; two additional suspects are still being sought. Over the past six months, the Fresno Police Department's Career Criminal Auto Theft Team (CCATT) has been investigating an auto theft ring responsible for stealing powerful performance cars, the department said in a Facebook post. The investigation eventually led them to a couple of large-scale 'chop shops' located in Huntington Park and Fresno, CA. Police said they identified 75 stolen cars, including Dodge Chargers, Challengers, and Durangos, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawks, Chevrolet Camaros and unnamed Infiniti models. The vehicles are estimated to be worth more than $3 million in total. Multiple firearms, including illegal short-barrel rifles, were also found. According to a 2023 report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Dodge muscle cars were the most stolen vehicles for the 2020-2022 model years. Theft claims for the Charger Hellcat were more than 60 times more frequent than the average for all 2020-22 models, relative to their numbers on the road. The Hemi-powered Charger and Challenger models have been among the top five most stolen vehicles since 2011. The two outstanding suspects still being sought in connection to this recently busted car theft ring are 20 year-old Julian Calderon and 22 year-old Jordan Rios, police say.
