General Mills discontinues 3 cereal flavors. See which ones. Show Caption Hide Caption Breakfast idea: Cereal bar recipe These homemade cereal bars are perfect for back-to-school or as a grab-and-go snack. Problem Solved General Mills is pulling three specialty cereals from shelves, a representative for the company confirmed to USA TODAY. The company is discontinuing: Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch (introduced in early 2013) Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios (introduced in 2017) Honey Nut Cheerios Minis products (announced as a new addition in early 2024) Cereal enthusiast and social media user Kayla Simonsen, also known as the Cereal Queen on Instagram, first broke that the cereal was getting the axe in an Instagram post on June 4. "Of the 3, It baffles me the most that Cheerios would discontinue the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios," Simonsen said in the social media post, adding that people should "grab these while (they) can, because what's on shelves is what's left." Why is General Mills discontinuing the cereals? General Mills did not elaborate on why it discontinued the products, but said in a statement on June 17 that it is introducing new cereals for customers to try, like Cheerios Oat Crunch Chocolate. Frosted Lemon Cheerios will also return for a limited time this summer. 'Much like Frosted Lemon Cheerios, which returned by popular demand, we continue to listen to our fans as we evolve our offerings,' the company said. Discontinued cereal may have done better if it were more widely available, Simonsen says Simonsen said Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios were 'fantastic' in her June 4 Instagram post. She also offered her take on what could've helped the Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch cereal last longer. 'The medley (oat) crunch version of honey nut cheerios were so underrated,' she wrote. 'I feel if they had been more widely available from the start that the sales would have been great. It combined HN cheerios, multigrain based flakes that had graham flour in them, & the best honey clusters of granola w/almonds. It was perfection honestly.' According to General Mills, the company recently released a line of Cheerios Protein cereal, which comes in flavors such as cinnamon, strawberry, and cookies and creme. The line debuted this year. Cheerios lovers, brace yourselves: three flavors are gone — here's why.

Cereal lovers beware: You may not like what you are about to read. General Mills, the maker of popular breakfast cereal, Cheerios, has sadly decided to discontinue three of its flavors: Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Oat Crunch, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios Minis. Didn't know there was more than one kind of Cheerios? Here are all the flavors, from Fruity Cheerios, and Pumpkin Spice Cheerios—to Very Berry. So, while this may be bad news for cereal junkies everywhere, there is a silver lining here. It turns out the reason they are taking them off the shelf is to make way for some new offerings including, the Cheerios Protein line. 'As we've introduced new innovations this year—including Cheerios Protein, available in Cinnamon, Strawberry and Cookies and Creme, Cheerios Oat Crunch Chocolate, and the return of fan-favorite Frosted Lemon Cheerios for a limited time this summer—we have discontinued a few products from our portfolio,' General Mills told Fast Company in an emailed statement. If you are wondering if there is any hope of resurrecting one of those three discontinued flavors, fear not. 'Much like Frosted Lemon Cheerios, which returned by popular demand, we continue to listen to our fans as we evolve our offerings,' General Mills added. Cheerios isn't the only company jumping on the high protein bandwagon, also known as protein-maxxing. They join a number of other food and beverage brands, including Starbucks, who recently announced the addition of a new Protein Cold Foam that adds a whopping 15 grams of protein to each coffee drink.

General Mills discontinues 3 Cheerios flavors

General Mills has pulled three Cheerios flavors from its lineup, the company confirmed this week. "The Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch Cereal and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios Cereal have been discontinued and are no longer available," a representative for General Mills told ABC News in an emailed statement. TK CALLOUT The decision, according to the company, "could be for a variety of reasons, ranging from insufficient consumer demand to ingredients no longer available or other supply chain constraints, whereby it's just no longer feasible for us to offer the product with the high quality and competitive pricing that consumers know and expect." A third product, 18-ounce packages of Honey Nut Cheerios Minis, is also no longer available, however the product is still sold in a 10.8-ounce option. The cereal aisle shake up was first reported by Kayla Simonsen, an eagle-eyed consumer news and cereal collector, on Instagram earlier this month. For more details on General Mills cereals available in your shopping area, the company suggests consumers use the online product locator to find retailers offering the cereal they're looking for. The discontinuations come as General Mills reintroduces a fan-favorite flavor, Frosted Lemon Cheerios, which will return to store shelves for a limited time this summer, a representative for the company told ABC News on Wednesday. "Much like Frosted Lemon Cheerios, which returned by popular demand, we continue to listen to our fans as we evolve our offerings," they said.
