Afternoon and evening storms likely in southeastern KELOLAND

A hot and humid day is ahead for much of southeastern KELOLAND ahead of a line of showers and thunderstorms later today. The Storm Prediction Center continues to carry a slight risk of severe weather to much of southeastern KELOLAND. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible with the strongest storms. So far, storms have been limited the past 24 hours. You can see the rain totals on the map below. Take a look at the time and placement details of the storms on Futurecast below. You'll notice the initial development takes place west of Sioux Falls as a broken line of thunderstorms moves slowly eastward into the early evening. The strongest storms may produce ping pong ball size hail and wind gusts to 65 mph, along with locally heavy rain. Expect additional areas of showers and occasional thunderstorms behind the front tonight in far southeastern KELOLAND. Much cooler weather will impact all of the region tomorrow into midweek, with additional showers possible in western SD starting Wednesday afternoon. We will carry 20% to 30% chances of rain Thursday and Friday in eastern KELOLAND as well. Here are the details of the forecast. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Much warmer weather ahead this weekend; Thunderstorms next week

Good morning KELOLAND! We are starting the day with some sunshine and cool temperatures across the region. However, more isolated t-showers could develop today in the far southeast, a trend we'll watch later today. Highs yesterday bounced back into the 60s for much of KELOLAND. That's still below normal for this time of the year. We also tracked scattered rain in response to that slow-moving upper level low moving across the region. Temperatures should be a few degrees warmer today in Sioux Falls, even with the isolated rain chances. You can see those rain chances on Futurecast below. The forecast for tomorrow is looking warmer and dry across the region. Warmer weather will be the big weather story for the weekend. However, thunderstorms will enter the picture by Monday into Tuesday. Take a look at the upper air pattern as we head into next week. We have a number of interesting factors that will be coming together to support the development of thunderstorms. Deep moisture will likely flow into KELOLAND from both the gulf coast and the desert southwest as tropical moisture swings into the region from Baja California. With plenty of instability in place ahead of a slow-moving cold front Monday afternoon into Tuesday, the stage will be set for some decent thunderstorms. Locally heavy rain could develop as well, but we still have more details to watch. Severe weather is also quite possible late Monday. Stay tuned. Here are the details of the forecast. More scattered rain today; Big warm up ahead for KELOLAND

Good morning KELOLAND! We are tracking scattered showers across KELOLAND. You can see the wet streets at Lake Preston this morning. More scattered rain continues to move around this upper-level low pressure system, with more scattered rain ahead for today. The clouds and the rain yesterday kept temperatures down in the upper 50s and lower 60s for highs for many. Today will be just a bit warmer for Sioux Falls, with highs returning the mid 60s today. You can see the development of more scattered rain on Futurecast below for today. Many of the showers will fizzle tonight, but we can't rule out a few more on radar tomorrow across the southeast. Dry and warmer weather is likely for Friday. Here are the details of the forecast. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Rain chances moving east today; Much warmer by the weekend

Good morning KELOLAND! Our Memorial Day forecast calls for increasing clouds and areas of showers that will expanding from southwestern SD. High temperatures yesterday made it back to the 70s in eastern KELOLAND. 70s will still be possible in the far northeast today, but clouds will bring cooler weather for most locations. Areas of showers are slowly spreading to the northeast this morning. We expect better chances arriving in the Sioux Falls area by late this afternoon into the early evening. Rain totals the past 24 hours have been heaviest in southwestern SD, where another half inch of rain has fallen in the Custer and Pine Ridge areas. Showers will edge closer to Sioux Falls late this afternoon. Temperatures will likely top out in the upper 60s with the clouds. You can see the progression of the showers on Futurecast on the map below. The majority of the rain today will stay across the far south and west, but the rain will slowly expand to the northeast tonight and tomorrow. As a result, temperatures will be cooler for areas with the clouds and showers. Expect increasing chances of rain tonight into tomorrow for much KELOLAND. It won't likely be raining all day, but periods of showers are expected as an upper-level low sits and spins over our region. That upper level system will slowly move away by Thursday. More sunshine will help temperatures climb into the 70s, with 80s ahead for many areas by Friday into the weekend. This pattern start changing again by early next week as another storm system moves into the Rockies. This will bring areas of rain back to the northern plains toward the end of the 7 day forecast. In the meantime, temperatures will bounce back to above normal readings by the weekend. Enjoy the taste of summer weather just around the corner. Here are the details of the forecast. More showers ahead for KELOLAND; Warmer weather late this week

Good morning KELOLAND! We have a sunny start to the day in Aberdeen and temperatures East River today should be few degrees warmer when compared to yesterday. Rain continues to develop in southwestern SD. As of 7am, rain totals over .25″ are coming in around Custer and Pine Ridge. We expect more rain chances during the day. You can see the radar loop in the video below from early Sunday morning. That rain will stay west of Sioux Falls today. Our hour-by-hour planner shows some nice warming with highs near 70 this afternoon. Take a look at Futurecast on the video below. The best rain chances will stay in the far southwest today, but those rain chances will start to move slowly east on Memorial Day. We expect temperatures to hold in the 50s and 60s tomorrow as clouds increase in the Sioux Falls area. Rain showers will continue to expand eastward into Tuesday and Wednesday as an upper-level low pressure system spins over our region. This will keep temperatures below average for this time of the year. That upper-level low will move eastward toward Thursday, allowing a milder pattern to arrive across KELOLAND. We expect a nice warm-up later this week as high pressure moving into our region. It is interesting, however, to see another low diving into the intermountain west by early next week. This may be start of another active weather pattern across KELOLAND, with more thunderstorms expected in this type of pattern as we connect to deeper moisture to our south. We'll continue to watch the details in the coming days. Here are the details of the forecast. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
