Georgia Bulldogs hire two NFL coaching veterans
The Georgia Bulldogs have added some NFL coaching talent to their staff. UGA announced the hiring of Phil Rauscher and John Lilly to the Bulldogs' staff as offensive analysts. "And then the hiring of two of our assistants, new assistants on offense, both Phil Rauscher and John Lilly will be helping out Coach Bobo and his staff on the offensive side, as well as all of us," said Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart. Advertisement Lilly is a 30-year coaching veteran. He previously worked at Georgia as the tight ends coach during the Mark Richt era from 2008-15, overseeing the development of star tight end Orson Charles. Ever since then, he's worked with the Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland Browns, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Carolina Panthers. Lilly has experience working with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and offensive line coach Stacy Searels. Rauscher has spent fifteen years coaching both in college and the NFL. His most recent stints were as offensive line coach and running game coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars after spending stints with the Denver Broncos, Washington Commanders, and Minnesota Vikings. Rauscher and Lilly join a long list of analysts hired by Georgia. The Bulldogs have also hired Ty Hatcher, Garrett Cox, and Bryson Allen-Williams to their staff, but Georgia has not had much major coaching turnover this offseason. Advertisement 'I've got a lot of confidence in this organization, the foundation we've built. I've got the best staff in the country, and I have no doubt about that,' Smart said earlier this spring. 'I've got one of the most experienced SEC staffs there is, and to be honest with you, there's a lot of confidence in that, and I have a lot of confidence in it.' Considering his praise for 2024's staff, this is exciting news. Smart prefers to have continuity as opposed to new coaches, who may bring new ideas, in his coaching staff. Georgia is set to wrap up spring football on April 12, the day of G-Day. This article originally appeared on UGA Wire: Georgia football hires pair of NFL coaching veterans

Kirby Smart credits freshmen WR for strong spring performance
Kirby Smart credits freshmen WR for strong spring performance This freshman group of wide receivers coming into Georgia had a good spring with the headliner five-star WR Tayln Taylor along with four-stars CJ Wiley, Landon Roldan and Tyler Williams. Unfortunately Tyler Williams had his spring cut short due to an injury. In the G-Day scrimmage, Wiley showcased his potential with a pair of receptions totaling 47 yards. One catch was a one-hander on former five-star CB Demello Jones. Taylor, despite an early drop, also contributed with three catches for 32 yards. Roldan hauled in one of his four targets for a modest four yards. For all three, this scrimmage marked their first experience with the speed and intensity of a college football game like environment after successful high school careers last season. Head coach Kirby Smart spoke very highly of the group and how their spring went. 'Yeah, way, way, way, way, way further ahead,' Smart said after the G-Day game. 'I mean, they've come a long way. They were thrown into the fire. They've been demanded to get the call, line up. I mean, they're ahead of where our typical freshmen are because they've gone with the twos. They've got a ways to go still. They had a little anxiety today. They had a couple plays I thought they should have made. But they're a good group, and Tyler's been hurt. We haven't been able to see him much. But that young group has made some plays for us.' This group of players are the future for the position but their contributions are more than needed for this season if Georgia wants reach heights that they could not last season.

Georgia football G-Day spring game today: Quarterbacks air it out for Bulldogs Quarterback Gunner Stockton, who started the Sugar Bowl for Georgia football and is the favorite to win the job this season, threw for 309 yards and No. 2 quarterback Ryan Puglisi threw two touchdown passes as the Red Team beat the Black Team Saturday 34-17 in the G-Day spring game. Some spring games around the country have been scrapped or seen their formats altered, but this one that wrapped up spring practices for the Bulldogs looked much like the others under Kirby Smart. Advertisement It wasn't televised or streamed but a crowd of 35,033 were in Sanford Stadium for an afternoon with temperatures that reached the mid-60s. Stockton completed 17 of 34 passes for 309 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Puglisi completed 20 of 49 passes for 224 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception. He played mostly with the Black team. Georgia brought in six newcomers at wide receiver, but the leading pass-catchers on this day were two players that returned. Dillon Bell had 5 catches for 78 yards for the Red Team and London Humphreys had 4 catches for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. Linebacker CJ Allen led the Black team with 8 tackles and linebacker Justin Williams paced the Red team with 9. Advertisement Keep it here for updates throughout G-Day London Humphreys with another touchdown After a 30-yard run from freshman running back Bo Walker, London Humphreys scored on the outside off a 3-yard shovel pass from Ryan Puglisi. The Red leads the Black 27-17. Gunner Stockton joins in the TD pass party Gunner Stockton became the third quarterback with a touchdown pass. He hit walk-on Jeremy Ball on the right side for a 31-yard touchdown catch. The Red leads the Black 27-10. Colbie Young catches touchdown pass from Ryan Puglisi Ryan Puglisi switched to the Red team and led his new team on a touchdown drive that was capped with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Colbie Young on the left side of the end zone. Young made the catch on Daniel Harris. The Red team leads 20-10. Walk-on Colter Ginn is the third QB on G-Day Walk-on Colter Ginn from Perry, Ga., was the third quarterback to get in the game today. He made the most of his moment, connecting with London Humphreys on a 50-yard strike and then a 7-yard touchdown for the Black which pulls within 13-10 early in the third quarter. Colbie Young touchdown over-ruled by Kirby Smart Colbie Young caught a 21-yard touchdown pass in the right corner of the end zone, but replays appeared to show he out of bounds. Kirby Smart, who can call the shots in his team's own game, decided to overrule the call on the field. Advertisement 'Never had that before," Smart told Jeff Dantzler during a radio halftime interview. "I couldn't see it but looked like he was clearly out….I'm trying to keep that game close.' The Red team extended its lead to 13-3 lead on a 44-yard Peyton Woodring field goal. A touchdown! A touchdown by Nate Frazier Nate Frazier's 1-yard touchdown run is the first touchdown of this G-Day. The Red team leads 10-3 near the end of the first half. The big play was a 36-yard Gunner Stockton to Zachariah Branch completion to set up the score. Branch beat Joenel Aguero on the left side. Cole Speer going to locker room after getting injured Georgia senior wide receiver Cole Speer went down injured after a 15-yard completion. Advertisement He is heading to the locker room with the help of some trainers. Speer wasn't putting weight on his left leg. The Calhoun native had 3 catches for 37 yards last season. Black ties it up on drive with a couple of drops The Black team went 49 yards in 10 plays and tied this G-Day at 3 on a 23-yard field goal by Liam Badger. Two Ryan Puglisi passes were dropped on the drive by Talyn Taylor and Elyiss Williams. The big play was a 35-yard one-handed catch from wide receiver CJ Wiley. Ryan Puglisi's start so far The Black team offense under Ryan Puglisi hasn't got much going so far. He is 5 of 7 for 12 yards and a false start penalty was called on the quarterback in the last possession that ended with a punt. Red team leads! Red team leads! We have the first score of G-Day. Advertisement Peyton Woodring booted a 35-yard field goal to cap a 9 play, 50-yard drive over 5:20 to make it 3-0 Red. The big play was a Gunner Stockton to Jaden Reddell 15-yard completion. The tight end later hobbled off the field. The first quarter ended one play later when the Black team ran off one play. Daniel Harris with an interception in the end zone Both teams' offenses went three-and-out to start the game, but Gunner Stockton and the Red team got going with a couple of completions to Lawson Luckie. Daniel Harris won a battle for a deep ball on the right side of the end zone to pick off a Gunner Stockton interception on a throw to Colbie Young. Stockton is 3 of 6 for 32 yards. Different look wide receiver corps With Zachariah Branch in the slot and Noah Thomas and Colbie Young on the outside, this is a different looking wide receiver corps. Branch reportedly was battling an injury in the scrimmage last week, it looks like he will play today. Name adjustment on WR Sacovie White's jersey The last name on wide receiver Sacovie White's jersey today is White-Helton. That's not reflected on the rosters Georgia handed out in the press box. Advertisement So what's the story with the name from the redshirt freshman from Cartersville? The Heltons are the family he moved in with in the eighth grade, according to this from 11 Alive. G-Day format for Georgia football today Here's the deal for how things will run today for the scrimmage: It's four 15-minute quarters but the clock will be running except after scores, penalties, change of possession and the last four minutes of the half. There will be a 12 minute halftime. Quarterbacks and injured players (they are playing?) will wear white non-contact jerseys. Instead of kickoffs and returns, the ball will be spotted at the 30-yard line. Advertisement There will be punts, but no returns. There will be a tag-off for returners. Field goals will take place, but only rushes from the middle. None from the outside. Defensive back Ondre Evans on crutches and out for G-Day Redshirt freshman defensive back Ondre Evans is listed on the Red team roster but he was on crutches during the Dawg Walk and will be a no go today. Georgia football CB undergoes successful ACL surgery
Georgia football CB undergoes successful ACL surgery Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Ondre Evans was seen on crutches during their G-Day spring game, which he didn't participate in. Evans shared on his Instagram story that he underwent successful ACL surgery. The typical recovery period for this kind of injury is usually at least eight to nine months, which means Evans will likely miss at least part of the regular season for Georgia. Evans joined Georgia as a four-star recruit in the 2024 class that ranked first in the nation. The Nashville, Tennessee, native didn't play in any games for the Bulldogs last fall and still has four years of eligibility left. Evans was not among the top two cornerbacks on the depth chart for the Bulldogs. Georgia returns their 2024 starting cornerbacks, Daylen Everette and Daniel Harris, who both performed very well at G-Day. Fellow 2024 signees Ellis Robinson IV and Demello Jones also seem to be ahead of Evans, as they both saw playing time with the first and second-team defenses at G-Day. Evans could target a return for Georgia's bowl game or he could be out for the entire season.

Georgia rises in SEC football rankings after landing 4-star safety commit
Georgia rises in SEC football rankings after landing 4-star safety commit The Georgia Bulldogs have moved up the national recruiting rankings after earning a recent commitment from four-star safety recruit Kealan Jones. Jones committed to Georgia on G-Day, which is Georgia football's annual spring scrimmage, so the news may have evaded many Georgia fans. Jones is head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia football's sixth commitment in the class of 2026. The Bulldogs have a long way to go in the 2026 recruiting cycle like most other schools, but UGA is starting to build its foundation. Right now, the LSU Tigers are leading the pack in terms of SEC football recruiting. The Tigers and the Texas A&M Aggies are the only SEC schools ranked in the top 10 right now, but fans should expect that to change. During the most recent recruiting cycle (class of 2025), the SEC finished with seven signing classes ranked among the nation's top 10 and the 2026 cycle's final team rankings should end up looking similar to the class of 2025. SEC football class of 2026 recruiting rankings LSU Tigers (nine commits, No. 5 national ranking) Texas A&M Aggies (10 commits, No. 6 national ranking) Tennessee Volunteers (eight commits, No. 16 national ranking) Arkansas Razorbacks (11 commits, No. 17 national ranking) Auburn Tigers (seven commits, No. 21 national ranking) Georgia Bulldogs (six commits, No. 24 national ranking) Mississippi State Bulldogs (seven commits, No. 26 national ranking) Alabama Crimson Tide (five commits, No. 27 national ranking) South Carolina Gamecocks (five commits, No. 32 national ranking) Texas Longhorns (four commits, No. 36 national ranking) Oklahoma Sooners (four commits, No. 40 national ranking) Ole Miss Rebels (four commits, No. 43 national ranking) Florida Gators (three commits, No. 45 national ranking) Vanderbilt Commodores (four commits, No. 47 national ranking) Missouri Tigers (two commits, No. 67 national ranking) Kentucky Wildcats (one commit, No. 74 national ranking) Follow UGAWire on Instagram!
