Motorola has launched the Moto G86 Power smartphone in India, expanding its G-series portfolio. Priced at Rs 17,999 for the sole 8GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration, the smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset and features a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 primary sensor. It boasts a 1.5K pOLED display, AI-enhanced camera features, and military-grade durability. One of its unique features is the "G-Turn," which allows the SUV to turn in place, showcasing its off-road capabilities despite being a heavy electric vehicle. Reason For Market Challenges: Despite these strengths, the electric G-Class has faced several challenges that led to low sales in comparison to the Mercedes ICE variant. Some of the reasons are: Sales Performance: In its first year, only 1,450 units were sold, compared to about 9,700 traditional combustion-engine G-Class. Pricing: The G 580 is comparatively more expensive than its petrol counterpart. Range Concerns: With an EPA-certified range of about 473 km, potential buyers have expressed concerns, especially when other competitors offer longer ranges. Market Feedback: An internal Mercedes executive (who kept his identity anonymous) reportedly called the vehicle "a complete flop," citing low sales and limited interest from customers. Practicality Concerns: The EV is heavy and has a limited payload capacity, and it doesn't have a towbar option. These issues have raised doubts about its practicality compared to the internal combustion engine (ICE) model. Despite this, the brand claims in a quote to Motor1 that the G-Class remains a favorite among buyers. It recorded its highest-ever sales in the last quarter of 2024 and continued to perform well in early 2025, with an 18 percent increase in sales compared to the same time last year. Motorola announced three new G-series smartphones in its portfolio. While the trio looks nearly identical, there are some subtle differences in the specs department. Moto G86 and G86 Power share the same basic hardware, apart from the battery, which in the case of the latter is the largest cell ever fitted in a Motorola smartphone at a whopping 6,720mAh. Moto G56 is a more affordable entry with toned-down, capable specs and lower pricing. Moto G86 and G86 Power The new Moto G86 and G86 Power are built around a 6.67-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The panel is rated at up to 4,500 nits peak local brightness and features Gorilla Glass 7i protection and an embedded fingerprint scanner.
