60 international students graduate in various streams
Visakhapatnam: Celebrating the achievements of international students from Kenya, Rwanda, Bhutan, Nigeria, Nepal, Ethiopia, Uganda, and other nations, GITAM hosted its sixth special graduation ceremony here on Wednesday. Highlighting the growing appeal of India's higher education system among international students, Registrar D. Gunasekharan emphasised that India's educational landscape is rich in diversity, culture, and history makes it a preferred global destination for academic pursuits. The institution's School of Pharmacy Principal Srinivas urged graduates to apply their acquired knowledge towards the development of human capital in their home countries. He encouraged them to pursue research-oriented careers to better serve society. GIMSR Biochemistry department Professor K Viswa Kalyan congratulated the students and encouraged them to continue learning in order to stay competitive in today's world. Speaking on the internationalisation of education, Director of International Affairs KPC Kishan shared that over 400 students from 43 countries are currently enrolled across various programmes. He acknowledged the Central Government's 'Study in India' initiative for promoting Indian higher education on the global stage. Dr Kishan also reminded the audience that India has historically contributed groundbreaking innovations and discoveries to the world. He invited graduates to join the Indian Alumni Association to stay connected and strengthen professional networks globally. This year, 60 international students successfully completed programmes in engineering, science, pharmacy, paramedical sciences, and management. The ceremony marked a proud moment for both the graduates and the institution, reinforcing the institution's commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration.

A panel discussion titled 'Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products,' was held. Tobacco control is not just a health issue and it's a legal, social and economic imperative, the speakers said.

GIMSR becomes third teaching hospital in AP to get NABH accreditation

Achieving NABH accreditation under the latest 6th edition standards signifies excellence in patient safety, clinical quality, infrastructure and continuous improvement, she said. GIMSR head (operations) Krishna Karthik Bhogavalli spoke about the hospital's recent upgrades such as increasing the number of beds to 750 in number, 16 modular major operation theatres among others. GIMSR NABH coordinator Prabhavathi mentioned that NABH accreditation stands as a testament to the GIMSR's unwavering commitment to quality healthcare, advanced medical education and continuous institutional excellence. GIMSR hospital superintendent V.V. Workshop held on usage of laser in dermatology
Visakhapatnam: Explaining the medical fraternity on usages of lasers in dermatology, a workshop 'waves and wavelengths' was conducted here on Sunday. Experts briefed about recent dermatological therapeutic laser technologies. Conducted by the distinguished Dr Avitus John Raakesh Prasad from Madurai, the scientific programme featured detailed live demonstration sessions on advanced laser techniques including laser hair reduction, Q-Switch Nd:YAG laser, and MNRF for various skin issues such as unwanted hair removal, tattoo removal, skin pigmentation, keloids/ acne scars and wrinkles. Each technical segment was followed by vibrant question and answer sessions. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony GIMSR Pro VC Gitanjali Batmanabane stressed the importance of such workshops and its requirement in postgraduate curriculum and research. She emphasized the need for public awareness to avoid laser treatments in the hands of unqualified persons frequently resulting in complications. The organising chairperson BV Ramachandra and scientific chairperson Dr. Rahul Ray emphasised the need for continued medical education for dermatologists to be updated in recent advances on laser technologies. Organised by GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, the workshop was held under the aegis of IADVL AP with enthusiastic participation from dermatology professionals, postgraduates, and researchers from across the region along with over 200 delegates. The workshop began with free paper presentations, providing a platform for budding postgraduate researchers to showcase their accomplishments in the field of laser research.
