CKAF unite for statewide pen-down Aug 22 strike, demands pay revision
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Karmchari-Adhikari Federation (CKAF), representing 110 employees' organisations, has called for a statewide pen-down strike on Aug 22 over an 11-point charter of demands.
The federation warned that if the govt fails to respond, employees may launch an indefinite strike. Unions across departments and districts have pledged support, demanding DA from the due date, dearness relief, parity in pay, time-bound promotions, regularisation of workers, medical facilities, and an increase in retirement age.
Federation members said that the proposed pen-down, work-down strike is receiving widespread support across the state.
In a joint statement, CKAF conveners Kamal Verma, G R Chandra, Rajesh Chatterjee, B P Sharma, Chandrashekhar Tiwari, Sanjay Singh Thakur, and Rohit Tiwari said a meeting was held in Raipur with the state heads of various employees' unions. During the meeting, district supervisors reported on the preparations for the protest, noting the consensus and enthusiasm among employees.
Unions representing urban bodies, universities, contract workers, and daily-wage employees have also given written consent to join the strike by taking mass leave, they said.

The state heads at the meeting urged the govt to discuss and resolve their demands soon.
Federation officials said that for years, employees have been submitting memorandums and holding democratic protests for their legitimate demands. However, they said there was no positive response from the state govt on the 'Modi Ki Guarantee' promises. This has compelled them to consider an indefinite strike, they added.
When asked about Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai's announcement on Tuesday of a 2% hike in dearness allowance for Chhattisgarh's officers and employees—a key demand of the workforce—Kamal Verma said the CKAF will go ahead with its planned strike on Aug 22.
With this increase, employees will now receive 55% DA, bringing it at par with the central govt.
"We demand a DA hike from Jan 2025, which is the due date, and the state govt has yet to take a decision on it. Unless we have a meeting with the state govt on the DA due date and other pending demands, we will not call off our proposed strike," Verma told TOI.
