Ohio State basketball player and roster offseason tracker

Ohio State basketball player and roster offseason tracker The Ohio State basketball program is reeling a bit. To say that Jake Diebler's first full season as the head coach didn't go as well as many would have liked is an understatement. The Buckeyes limped down the stretch of the season, bowed out of the Big Ten Tournament early, and missed the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year. Shaping the roster moving forward is going to be a huge part of what this program will need to do, and it must be done with careful, methodical, and purposeful intentions. Some of what happens with the guys wearing the Scarlet and Gray heading into next season and beyond will be beyond OSU's control, but a lot of it will have Diebler and his staff's fingerprints all over it. It must, and things simply have to get better, and better quickly. We've already seen some guys enter the transfer portal, and we've also received word on one player coming to Ohio State from another Big Ten program via the same portal. We're trying to keep track of all of it and are updating the OSU roster as news becomes available on each player on the current roster in as close to real-time status as we can. Here's a look at each player on the 2024-2025 Ohio State men's basketball roster and where each stands when it comes to their future on the banks of the Olentangy. Players that have entered the transfer portal Austin Parks, CenterMeechie Johnson Jr., GuardEvan Mahaffey, Forward (transferring to Akron) Parks and Mahaffey both have eligibility left and have entered the transfer portal. They will open up two spots on the OSU roster and finish their careers elsewhere. Johnson will seek a medical hardship and look to gain one more season of eligibility, but his time too is done in the Scarlet and Gray. Players now with Ohio State from the transfer portal Gabe Cupps, Guard (from Indiana) Ohio State will no doubt target others in the portal, but at this time, the Indiana guard is the only player that has committed to the Buckeyes out of the portal. Cupps played two seasons with the Hoosiers but may get a medical redshirt because of a torn meniscus that took him out of most of last season. He was Ohio's Mr. Basketball in 2022 and could have three years of eligibility left. Ohio State players who have exhausted eligibility Micah Parrish, GuardQues Glover, Guard As mentioned before, Johnson could also be in this bucket, but he still has a chance for one more season if granted a medical redshirt. Parrish and Glover have definitely exhausted all eligibility and will not return. Players still technically on the 2025-2026 roster for Ohio State Bruce Thornton, Guard (rising senior)John Mobley Jr, Guard (rising sophomore)Colin White, Guard (rising sophomore)Taison Chatman, Guard (rising junior)Gabe Cupps, Guard (rising junior)Ivan Njegovan, Center (rising junior)Aaron Bradshaw, Center (rising junior)Devin Royal, Forward (rising junior)Sean Stewart, Forward (rising junior) There could still be some news as we continue through the transfer portal window, but as of right now, all of these players are still on the roster and expected back. All eyes and ears are on an announcement of some sort about what happens with guard Bruce Thornton. He has yet to make an NCAA Tournament because of Ohio State's inability to make it the last three years. Does he trust the program enough to stay for his senior season or go elsewhere to a place he thinks can help him realize the dream of playing in March Madness? Freshman who will be on the roster for Ohio State next year A'mare Bynum, ForwardDorian Jones, Guard Ohio State signed just two players for next season as incoming freshmen. Both are top-100 recruits but it is unknown just how much they'll be able to assimilate themselves to the highest level of college basketball. OSU is in dire need of guard depth, so Jones might have a better chance of getting into the fray next season. So, how many roster spots are available for Ohio State? Ok, let's do some math based on what we know. Taking out the two walk-ons currently listed on the roster, there are nine returning players, two freshmen coming in, and one transfer. That brings things to 12 players, leaving three open roster spots if the coaching staff decides to use them all. It's a delicate dance to manage a roster in today's world of open transferring and Name, Image and Likeness, so we'll see where it all goes.

Ohio State lands Indiana point guard from transfer portal.

The Ohio State Men's Basketball team has landed its first player from the transfer portal this year. Gabe Cupps announced on social media that he was coming home to play for the Buckeyes. Hailing from Centerville, Ohio, Cupps was the Ohio Mr. Basketball in his junior season with the Elks, where he helped lead Centerville to a State Championship. Centerville would be denied back-to-back titles in Cupps' senior year, falling to Pickerington Central and 2023 Ohio Mr. Basketball Devin Royal in the championship game. Cupps committed to Indiana and headed to Bloomington after high school. During his freshman season with the Hoosiers, Cupps appeared in 33 games, starting 22 of those where he averaged just under 3 points per game, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. Expectations were high for Cupps entering his sophomore season at IU, but his season would be cut short after a lower-body injury shut him down for the season after just four games. Cupps now heads back to the Buckeye State where he'll hope to contribute in Scarlet and Gray. Cupps will take one of the spots vacated by Austin Parks and Evan Mahaffey who entered the transfer portal shortly after the season ended.
