Later, she earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Japan in 1977. Lee Gil-ya established Gil Medical Foundation and Gachon Medical University and currently serves as the president of Unified Gachon University. Over the years, she has held many leadership positions, including chairing various educational and cultural institutions. She has received multiple honorary doctorates for her contribution to medicine and education.
