The Military Capabilities of Egypt
Yara Sameh Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris has faced a major drawback after his bombshell advice to the Egyptian Armed Forces to focus on defence instead of selling shrimp and biscuits. In a lengthy statement on X , Mahmoud Gamal, a geopolitic and military affairs observer of the MENA region, shed light on a number of the remarkable developments the Egyptian defence industry sector has witnessed in recent years despite external constraints and economic challenges. He noted that what has been announced "only" is clear evidence of the scale of growth in this sector. "Egypt has been able to design, develop, and manufacture dozens of different models and versions of mine-resistant armoured vehicles, tactical vehicles, and armoured personnel carriers, rocket launchers of various calibers, various types of drones, and counter-rocket systems," Gamal said. He added it also manufactures smart air munitions, bunker-busting bombs, and artillery ammunition as well as develops and produces a number of electronic and optical systems, such as guidance packages and fire control systems for vehicles and tanks, radars, self-protection systems, remotely controlled weapon systems (RCWS), electronic warfare systems, integrated command, control, and communications (C4I/C5I) systems, and even individual combat equipment that had never before been produced locally. Gamal continued: "Egypt is working to localize the manufacturing of products serving the defense industry sector for the first time, such as the production of armoured steel and marine steel,". He noted that the country has also concluded several technology transfer and cooperation programs with international companies. "Prominent examples include the recently launched local production program for the Korean K9A1 EGY self-propelled howitzer system; the ongoing cooperation with France through Thales, a global company that produces signaling systems and military communications equipment via satellite; and the existing partnership with the Ministry of Military Production to develop and produce air defense systems locally,". Gamal highlighted that Egypt also cooperates with the Turkish company Havelsan to develop and manufacture unmanned vehicles for military use, as well as participating in the development and manufacture of armored vehicles. He added that the country also cooperates with the French company Dassault to produce engine and fuselage components for the Rafale and Falcon fighter jets. "There are still many cooperation programs under negotiation, such as cooperation with Korea to produce the FA-50 advanced trainer and light combat aircraft," Gamal stated. "In the maritime field, Egypt has made significant strides toward localizing its military naval industries," he noted."These efforts have included the construction and manufacture of three Gowind-class combat corvettes, the German Meko frigate, patrol and coastal patrol vessels, missile launches, and the production of naval drones, Future aspirations include transferring submarine construction technology locally and working simultaneously to design and build all-Egyptian naval vessels,". He concluded by pointing out that Egypt has never enjoyed the same level and scope of facilitation in the field of defense industry technology transfer as some regional countries, such as Turkey and Israel. "Furthermore, these countries have not experienced the same political and economic conditions that Egypt has experienced over the past decades, which ultimately led to the suspension or postponement of such programs and plans." read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. Pretoria protesters slam Egypt for being ‘complicit' in starvation, genocide in Gaza amid aid blockade
The protesters called on Egypt to let aid into Gaza. All food aid and medical supplies from Israel and Egypt are being clocked by the latter. About 200 people demonstrated outside the Egyptian embassy in Pretoria on Monday, demanding that Egypt open the Rafah border for aid to be delivered to Gaza. Israel has blocked all food, aid and medical supplies from entering the Gaza strip from Israel and Egypt. The blockade is being contested at the International Court of Justice. Last week the World Food Program (WFP) said it had depleted all its food stocks for families in Gaza, with thousands of tonnes of food stuck at aid corridors. 'Food prices have skyrocketed up to 1,400% compared to during the ceasefire, and essential food commodities are in short supply, raising serious nutrition concerns for vulnerable populations, including children under five, pregnant and breastfeeding women and the elderly,' the WFP said. Egypt, which shares a border with Gaza, was accused by Monday's protesters of actively contributing to the crisis in Gaza by blocking aid and charging exorbitant prices for aid trucks to enter Gaza. Some reports suggest that aid trucks are charged about $5,000 to enter Gaza, with commercial trucks charged $20,000. Some Egyptians have also been accused of profiteering from the evacuation of Palestinians from Gaza. Ahmad Gamal, a member of the Egyptian community who took part in the protest, said he was ashamed of the actions of the Egyptian government. 'The people of Gaza are not only our neighbours, they are our family. We are demanding the opening of the Rafah crossing so the aid trucks can enter Gaza,' said Gamal. Naazim Adam from the Palestine Solidarity Alliance said that the protest was directed against the Egyptian government, not its people. 'The protest today is a call on the Egyptian regime to stop being complicit in the starvation and genocide that is happening in Gaza,' said Adam. Protesters carried empty cardboard boxes symbolising the goods blocked from entering Gaza and placed them outside the embassy entrance. A memorandum of demands urging Egypt to facilitate the entry of aid into Gaza was handed over to the deputy ambassador. 'Egypt is bound by the Genocide Convention, Geneva Conventions and customary international humanitarian law. Fulfilling these duties is not only a legal requirement, but a test of moral consistency – especially for a nation with a proud legacy of anti-colonial solidarity,' read the memorandum. DM

Innovo Group to launch two real estate projects in Egypt in 2025
UK-based Innovo Group, formerly known as Al Shafar Group, is set to launch two new real estate projects in Egypt this year, according to Mohamed Gamal, Managing Director of Innovo Egypt. The company's real estate development arm, Sky Innovo Developments, will begin construction on its debut project in the Egyptian market, Park Street Edition, immediately following the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Located in New Cairo, the project carries a construction cost of EGP 7bn. Gamal described Park Street Edition as a mixed-use development that integrates residential, commercial, and administrative spaces with a focus on wellness and sustainability. The project spans a land area of 20,000 square meters, with a total built-up area of 65,000 square meters. It marks Innovo's first foray into real estate development in Egypt, a move that aligns with the group's broader expansion strategy both locally and internationally. Speaking during a company press conference, Gamal highlighted Innovo Egypt's ambitious plans for growth in the real estate sector, citing Egypt's stable economic climate and attractive investment environment as key drivers behind its decision to deepen its presence in the country. Innovo's business footprint in Egypt has already surpassed EGP 42bn, with operations covering construction, infrastructure, real estate development, project financing, management, and strategic investments. The company has delivered numerous high-profile projects for both the public and private sectors. These include contracts with the New Urban Communities Authority and the Urban Development Fund, as well as 12 developments for Emaar Misr. Gamal also revealed that Innovo is exploring opportunities to participate in construction work for the Ras El-Hekma development, a mega project along Egypt's North Coast. As part of its broader diversification strategy, Innovo is planning to enter new sectors in Egypt, including data centers and the industrial sector. The company is currently studying multiple opportunities to undertake infrastructure and interior fit-out work for data center projects, as well as assess potential investments in industrial developments. In line with global sustainability trends, Innovo has also intensified its focus on environmentally responsible building practices. In late March, the company announced a strategic partnership with the Egypt Green Building Council (EGBC) to promote sustainable development across the real estate and construction sectors. This collaboration is aimed at advancing energy-efficient construction techniques, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing the overall sustainability of urban development projects in Egypt.

Own goal gives 10-man Zamalek hard-fought win over Pharco FC in Egyptian League - Egyptian Football
In a closely contested match on the 13th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League, 10-man Zamalek secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Pharco FC on Tuesday. The breakthrough came just before halftime when Pharco FC defender Ahmed Gamal inadvertently scored an own goal, handing Zamalek the lead in the crucial encounter. The win keeps Zamalek in the third position, having played an additional game, and places them in contention for the league title. They are tied on points with defending champions Ahly, trailing league leaders Pyramids FC by just one point. Pharco FC, on the other hand, remains in 8th place on the table with 18 points. During the first half, Pharco FC and Zamalek were evenly matched until Gamal's deflection from inside the box off a long pass by winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed from a free kick broke the deadlock. In the second half, Zamalek's Swiss manager, Christian Gross, made strategic substitutions, bringing on Nasser Mansi and Mostafa Shalaby to bolster the attack. Zamalek faced a setback when newly signed midfielder Mahmoud Gehad was shown a second yellow card and subsequently sent off just six minutes before the final whistle, forcing them to see out the match with only 10 players. Following this important victory, Zamalek continues their resurgence after a recent 3-0 defeat to Pyramids FC. Having triumphed over Ismaily 2-0 last Friday, they keep the intense title race alive. Next, Zamalek will take on Petrojet in the 14th matchday of the Egyptian League on Monday.
