Technical snag: Imphal-bound IndiGo flight returns to Delhi
Guwahati: A technical snag detected mid-air, minutes after take-off, compelled the pilots of a Delhi-Imphal IndiGo flight to turn the flight back to IGI Airport in New Delhi on Thursday morning. The aircraft underwent security checks, and after the issue was resolved at IGI Airport, the flight resumed its journey to Imphal after a delay of more than two hours. This incident occurred a day after another IndiGo flight from Delhi to Goa was diverted to Mumbai due to a technical snag detected mid-air. Passengers on board the Delhi-Imphal flight told TOI that the pilot announced, around 20 minutes after take-off, that a technical snag had been detected. Most of the 100-odd passengers in the Airbus A321 aircraft were from Manipur. "A minor technical snag was detected soon after take-off on flight 6E 5118 operating from Delhi to Imphal on July 17, 2025. As a precautionary step, the pilots decided to turn back and landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi," an IndiGo spokesperson told TOI. In line with the mandatory procedures, the official said that the aircraft underwent necessary checks and resumed the journey shortly thereafter. "Inconvenience caused to our customers is regretted. As always, the safety and security of the customers, crew, and aircraft is of utmost importance to us," the IndiGo spokesperson added. After undergoing necessary checks, the flight resumed its journey and landed at Imphal Airport at 3:15 pm, a delay of two hours from the initially scheduled arrival time of 1:10 pm. "Everybody was feeling uneasy and stressed, but since the pilot announced everything was under control, there was no scary scene inside the aircraft. We were not panicked," social activist Kadilin Gangmei from Imphal, one of the passengers of the flight, told TOI. "The pilot said that the aircraft was returning to land at Delhi due to technical problems," he said. Gangmei mentioned that the passengers felt slight relief when the pilot announced that everything was under control and there was no need to panic. "After around 20 minutes, we landed in Delhi again," he said.
