Technical snag: Imphal-bound IndiGo flight returns to Delhi

Time of Indiaa day ago
Guwahati: A technical snag detected mid-air, minutes after take-off, compelled the pilots of a Delhi-Imphal IndiGo flight to turn the flight back to
IGI Airport
in New Delhi on Thursday morning.
The aircraft underwent security checks, and after the issue was resolved at IGI Airport, the flight resumed its journey to Imphal after a delay of more than two hours.
This incident occurred a day after another IndiGo flight from Delhi to Goa was diverted to Mumbai due to a technical snag detected mid-air.
Passengers on board the Delhi-Imphal flight told TOI that the pilot announced, around 20 minutes after take-off, that a technical snag had been detected.
Most of the 100-odd passengers in the Airbus A321 aircraft were from Manipur.
"A minor technical snag was detected soon after take-off on flight 6E 5118 operating from Delhi to Imphal on July 17, 2025. As a precautionary step, the pilots decided to turn back and landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi," an IndiGo spokesperson told TOI. In line with the mandatory procedures, the official said that the aircraft underwent necessary checks and resumed the journey shortly thereafter.
"Inconvenience caused to our customers is regretted. As always, the safety and security of the customers, crew, and aircraft is of utmost importance to us," the IndiGo spokesperson added. After undergoing necessary checks, the flight resumed its journey and landed at Imphal Airport at 3:15 pm, a delay of two hours from the initially scheduled arrival time of 1:10 pm. "Everybody was feeling uneasy and stressed, but since the pilot announced everything was under control, there was no scary scene inside the aircraft.
We were not panicked," social activist Kadilin Gangmei from Imphal, one of the passengers of the flight, told TOI.
"The pilot said that the aircraft was returning to land at Delhi due to technical problems," he said. Gangmei mentioned that the passengers felt slight relief when the pilot announced that everything was under control and there was no need to panic. "After around 20 minutes, we landed in Delhi again," he said.

60 daily flights from Navi Mum by mid-Oct: Adani Airport head

Ahmedabad: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is likely to be inaugurated around Sep 30, and within a fortnight operations will start with 60 daily flights, reaching up to 300 in six months, Adani Group director (airports) Jeet Adani told TOI exclusively on Friday. He said the demolition of T1 at Mumbai (CSMIA) will be completed in 2029-30 once NMIA gets its second terminal, reports Saurabh Sinha. The new T1 at CSMIA will be ready by 2032. Work has started on NMIA T2 and construction will begin in 6-12 months of the new airport getting operational. He said the Adani Group has asked the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority to consider CSMIA and NMIA as one airport with common charges. When general aviation flights are shifted to Navi Mumbai next year, charters and business jets will continue to fly into CSMIA but will not be allowed to park. The much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will see both domestic and international flights this Oct, a week to 15 days after inauguration on or around Sep 30. Starting with 60 daily flights (30 arrivals and as many departures) in the first month, the number will double after 30 days and then reach the 240-300 mark in six months. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Hyundai Palisade: Bold Redesign Unveiled! New Hyundai 2025 Learn More Undo In its first phase, with a capacity of 2 crore passengers annually (CPA), the greenfield airport will handle 400 daily flights within a year, Adani Group director (airports) Jeet Adani told TOI on Friday in an exclusive interaction. "We aim to have both domestic and international operations at NMIA from day one. If that does not happen for some reason, both will start for sure within the same month (Oct). The ratio of domestic and international flights will be 4:1 as T1 domestic capacity is 1.7 CPA and int'l is 30 LPA (lakh per annum). We have the flexibility to increase international passengers, based on demand," Adani said. An aerocity is being developed that will, among other things, have hotels in all ranges from budget to luxury. "We have kept a digital first mindset at NMIA T1 with every service going to be digitally enabled from day one and the airport will be managed in a smart manner. From a consumer point of view, we will be able to give all the information in real time. Logging on to Adani One app, passengers will be able to know that their check-in bag is now on belt number so & so and we plan to do it from the day the airport gets operational. There will be no need to congregate at the belt and keep looking for one's check-in bag/s," Adani said. The digital footprint aims to change flyer "anxiety to excitement". "What are the biggest flyer concerns? 'Will I miss my flight? How long are the queues at various touchpoints? I forgot to pick up something for loved ones!' Scanning the boarding card will give all info on the app. So if you're able to give them information that 'relax, your walking time to gate is exactly so many minutes or that boarding hasn't started or your aircraft hasn't even landed yet, they will be able to comfortably explore the airport'," he said. Running both Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and NMIA, the group has identified catchment areas for both. For people in the northern suburbs of Mumbai like Borivli, Kandivli and Virar, NMIA will be a long way off and they will continue to opt for CSMIA. "The eastern Mumbai catchment area all the way to Pune will find NMIA perfect for them as they won't have to enter the city. South Mumbai will be equidistant from both airports," Adani said.

Finally, Takeoff Call For Halwara Airport: Terminal to be launched by PM on July 27

Ludhiana: The terminal building of Halwara Airport would be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 27, industry and NRI affairs minister Sanjeev Arora announced on Friday. This comes as good news for residents of Ludhiana, who have been waiting anxiously for the airport to start operations. Presiding over a high-level review meeting at Bachat Bhawan on Friday, Arora confirmed that the Airports Authority of India (AAI), in collaboration with the district administration, was finalising preparations for the inauguration. He added that the terminal would be dedicated to the public on July 27, with Air India to announce flight commencement dates thereafter. An officer of the PWD department, which is executing the project work, told TOI that the process of handing over infrastructure developed under the Halwara International Airport project to AAI has already started. He added that some minor work suggested by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, including construction of watch towers and raising the height of the boundary wall, would be completed days before the inauguration on July 27. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo An AAI official, asking not to be named, said that after the inauguration, it would take airlines at least a month to set up offices to start operations from Halwara Airport. He added that flight operations were expected to start by September. Residents, who have been waiting a long time for inauguration of the Halwara International Airport, are happy about the latest development. Dr Ravinder Vatsayayan, who lives near Rose Garden, said that he would buy a ticket for the inaugural flight from Halwara Airport as he had been waiting for a long time for it to start operations. The industry is also delighted by news of the scheduled inauguration of the Halwara Airport terminal building. Talking to TOI, Harsimerjit Singh, president, United Cycle Parts and Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), said that it came as great news not only for residents of Ludhiana but also for people living within a 100-kilometre radius of the district. He expressed gratitude to the Centre and state governments as well as minister Sanjeev Arora, for their efforts to get the airport functional. Students and professionals have also welcomed the announcement. Jaspreet Singh, a student, said that there should be flights to various major cities of the country instead of only Ludhiana and Delhi. Boost to business, tourism Architect Sanjay Goel, former director, Ludhiana Smart City Limited, welcomed the announcement. In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that the inauguration by the PM was a matter of pride for the state. Highlighting the city's key role in Punjab's economy, he noted that Ludhiana is home to some of the state's largest industrialists and entrepreneurs. "Enhanced air connectivity will help boost exports, attract investors, and also promote tourism, which in turn will contribute to the socio-economic development of the region," he concluded. How Halwara scores over Sahnewal Halwara airport has a longer runway and facility of landing of flights at low visibility due to advanced landing facility with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) Low visibility in the winter is a major cause of cancellation of flights at Sahnewal airport. Halwara airport will not face such issues As compared to the capacity of a 72-seater ATR flight in Sahnewal, Halwara airport can cater to a 172-seater Boeing flight. The airport building will have three terminals — international, domestic, and cargo MSID:: 122768054 413 |
